    Completely Incomplete – (Chapter: 10)

I’d decided that I would call Ashley after I took Benny to the dog park, since I didn’t want to call too early; there was the time difference, and I knew she’d never been a morning person. When I got home, however, there was a note from Carrie taped to my door, saying she wouldn’t be able to make it tonight. I took that as a sign and quickly fed Benny and took him outside, rushing to get back into the privacy of my apartment so I could call. She picked up the phone after only one ring.

    “Hey Spencer!”

    “Hey, what’s up?”

“Nothing really. Just relaxing. How about you?”

    “Same,” I replied.

    “Any crazy plans tonight?”

    “Nope.”

“Liar. You’re in New York City, and it’s Friday! How can you not have something insane to do?” she said.

“I don’t know. New York’s not really that exciting.”

“Maybe, but there’s plenty of crazy people there.”

“I guess. I don’t really know any of them, though,” I told her.

“Let me see… I’m gonna have to go ahead and say that you affiliate yourself more with the 30 year-old, apartment soiree, drink-one-martini-and-call-it-a-night posse.”

“Close,” I laughed. “More of the, me-and-my-dog-watching-Sex-and-the-City-reruns-on-weekends posse.” I tried to make it seem as lighthearted as I could, but there was a brief silence before she spoke again.

    “Oh.”

“Yeah. I guess… I guess that’s kind of been my problem lately,” I admitted. “I just don’t really know many people… outside the geriatric party of my office.” She laughed at that one.

“So? You don’t need to know people to go out. Just, like, go to a club or a bar or something. I know there are some insane gay clubs in New York.”

    “I don’t know. I don’t think I could just, go alone.”

“You could bring Aiden with you,” she suggested. “He would totally get a kick out of that.” She laughed, apparently conjuring up the same image I had of Aiden getting hit on by a bunch of guys.

“I guess. He’s with Michelle right now though, since she’s leaving tomorrow.”

“Alright, well by the end of next weekend, I expect a loud, crazy, and drunken phone call from you. Deal?”

“Is this like a homework assignment?”

    “Yup!” she told me. “Deal?”
