Chapter Ten – {Lovers and Friends}

                Spencer could see the fiery red head waving genuinely at her from a few tables away.  She noticed when the trio sat down but decided to not make a big deal of it; either for her sakes or Ashley’s.  Spencer didn’t like seeing Ashley with Gia and though the feeling was childish, Spencer couldn’t help how she felt. 

            She gave a small wave and smiled.  Natalie looked up and then turned around to see Gia.  “She’s pretty.  Who’s that?”

            “Ashley’s girlfriend.” Spencer tried her best to seem uninterested as she twiddled with her thumbs.

            “So Ashley’s here?”

            “I guess,” Spencer mumbled, shrugging her shoulders.

            Natalie rolled her eyes.  “Do you want to leave?”

            “No.  Why would you say that?” Spencer brought her hand over to Natalie’s and gently stroked it.

            “Because your mood changed.”

            “No, I’m fine, I’m just…Oh God.”

            Just then Gia was standing by the girl’s table smiling down at Spencer. 

            “Hey.  I know I met you in such a rush last week.”

            “Hi…um…it’s not a problem.  I understand; you had plans.”

            Gia nodded and looked at Natalie, sticking her hand out.  “Hi, I’m Gia.”

            Spencer shook her head, “Oh I’m sorry this is my friend Natalie.”

            Natalie’s eyes narrowed as she looked over at Spencer, but took Gia’s hand and smiled.  “Nice to meet you.”

            “Likewise,” Gia replied sweetly.  “Listen, would you guys like to join us?  We just ordered and the host doesn’t mind accommodating extra chairs.

            “No we…”

            “We’d love to,” Natalie said, cutting Spencer off and standing up almost instantly. 

            “Great!” Gia said, turning on her heels and walking back over to the table.

“Are they coming?” Ashley asked Kyla through gritted teeth.

                “Yes.”

                “Fuck, fuck, fuck.  Why me?”

                “What the hell are you doing?” Spencer hissed out, grabbing Natalie by the arm and pulling her back a bit.

                “Let’s have brunch with our friends Spence.  Since we are all friends.”  Natalie pulled her arm away and walked briskly over to the table where the waiter had already set up the extra chairs; one next to Ashley and the other at the head of the table.
