Bette, Candice, Tina: Scene 5: Thanks for Coming

As Bette stood above the rose colored grave stone that read Glenda Porter Beloved Wife and Mother a silent tear rolled slowly down her cheek. She wiped it away with her finger tips as she tried to compose herself has Kit approached.

Bette: (hugs kit lightly after Kit sets down the flowers she brought) Thanks for coming.

Kit: Well you know I loved her too, tho you were her heart, I do miss her.

Bette: (looks over at Kit with tears in her eyes) why didnt she ever tell me?

Kit: (Hugs Bette to comfort her) awh, baby sis, are you going thru that again. (as she pulls her away still holding Betts arms gently, she looks straight into Bettss lowered eyes hoping somehow her sister will get the message this time) Listen, I truly believe she always meant to tell you. She just didnt get the chance.

Bette: (pulls away a bit uncomfortable now, looks back at the grave) Now Ill never Know.

Kit: And what is it exactly you need to know?? Uhm? Ill tell you something Bette, you grew up with two loving parents that both loved you. Now I loved that women, but it took me a long time to get over her leaving me, and when she came back it wasnt easy at first, but somehow we worked it out, and here you come. If there is one true gift she ever gave me it was you baby sis. And Marvin (pause) daddy (she corrects herself) Loved you as if you were his only child, and look at you now, youre his pride and joy. Now what would you expect to get from her side of the family that wouldnt even acknowledge her anymore, that you havent already gotten just living your life.

Bette: Im not sure (still a little unsure if she wanted to share she continues) And I dont thing hes really truly excepted me.

Kit: (eyebrows raised in surprise) And what make you think that?

Bette: Its just the little thingsI really dont want to talk about it, but the that would be biologically impossible comment he made when I told him about Tinas pregnancy just felt like a reminder to me.

Kit: Listen Bette, Marvin (pause) Daddy (she corrects herself again) Loves you, he always will, you know that in your heart and you always will. Youve been running after that mans Love and approval all your life and youve already got it. At least as mush as he can give and (gentler now) and you know that, now I know your not really going there again, so whats really going on?

Bette: I just miss her. I wish I could talk to her. Theres a lot going on right now and Im so confused, she seemed to always help me sort it out.

Kit: (looks at her sister again, who now looks lost and about to cry, with one then two tears escaping from Bettes eyes. eyes that fought to keep then In.) Come here (as she takes Bette into a Motherly Hug) I told you it would start eating you alive (releasing her now looks at her baby sister with pride in her eyes and smile) Im glad you decided you wanted to talk about it. (She puts her arm around Bettes shoulder as they walk towards her car.) Ill buy you a cup of coffee and you can tell your big sis all about it.

Bette, smoothes the tears away with both hands, closes her eyes shaking her head in disbelief that shes about to trust her sister again, but giving in to the need.

    To be continued.
