Tina rolled over and looked at the clock with tired eyes. It was almost eleven thirty and Bette still hadnt come to bed. She looked at the spot where Bette usually lay and gently ran a hand over the sheets as if she could magically make Bette appear. Tina sat up and sighed as she saw the light shining under the door. Tina got up and slowly walked out to the living room to find Bette working on her laptop. She is going to kill herself one day, thought Tina as she watched Bette work. When Bette was like this, in the zone as Tina called it, everything around her seemed to disappear. Bette had been off of work for two whole weeks now and she had managed to stay away from anything art related until yesterday. She got a call from James saying some bigwig artist was in town and Bette was doing research from home to see if they could get him to do a show at the CAC. Bette had been really good about not working too much though and last night and tonight she had waited until Tina went to sleep to even take out her laptop and start working. Tina knew this was just part of Bettes nature and the fact that she had managed to give Tina her undivided attention for the past two weeks was amazing. Tina knew she should just let Bette work but she wanted to curl up in Bettes arms tonight so she decided that it would be okay if she interrupted, just this once.

Tina walked over to the couch and sat down next to Bette who was sitting on the floor with her back to the couch. She hadnt even seen Tina come in the room and when Tina bent down and nibbled on her earlobe it scared the ***** out of Bette. Bette smiled when she saw Tina and looked up at her lovingly as she stroked her knee softly.

Hey babyyou should be sleepingits late.

I know but that bed is too big for just one person.

Ill be in soon okay? I just need to finish one more thing then Im done.

Tina pouted a little and Bette laughed as she gave in and shut off her laptop. Tina beamed at her and grabbed her hand pulling her to the bedroom. Bette turned off the lights and crawled in next to Tina who gently snuggled into her arms trying to find a comfortable position. This was difficult with the size of Tinas belly and the baby just couldnt seem to sleep at a decent hour. Tina finally settled in and Bette gently wrapped her arms around Tina and rested her head on Tinas shoulder. They laid there in silence for a while and Bette was waiting for Tinas breathing to even out but after a while she looked down at her with a concerned look on her face.

Still cant sleep baby?

No

Tina had a far away look in her eyes that didnt go unnoticed by Bette and Bette wondered what she was thinking. Tina had been a little emotional lately and Bette just figured Tina was feeling a little needy right now so she gently kissed the top of Tinas head and whispered in her ear.

I love you Tyou and the baby.

Tina smiled at this and Bette was glad she wasnt crying. Lately when Tina started to cry it seemed that nothing could make her stop. Bette kissed the spot behind Tinas ear and heard Tina sigh when she did this. Tina gently rubbed her belly as she looked up at Bette.

Hey we have the Lamaze class tomorrow.

Yup. One oclock right?

Yeah.

Ill be there. Oh and Alice said she wanted to come too.

Why?

Im not sure. She said something about writing an article on pregnancy and she wanted some hands on experience.

Are you sure she should be there? I mean its just a bunch of pregnant women and their partners.

I tried to tell her that but she said it would be great for her story.

Okaywhatever I guess.

Bette smiled and Tina laughed a little at the thought of Alice at a Lamaze class. It was bad enough the way she made fun of Tina, but a room full of pregnant women was like target practice for Alice. Bette had made Alice promise to be on her best behavior and Alice swore she wouldnt embarrass them. Tina fell asleep shortly after that and Bette smiled as she heard Tinas breathing even out. She knew Tina was getting more and more anxious as her delivery date approached and Bette had been amazed at how well Tina had been handling herself. Sleep soon took Bette too and in the morning Tina woke her up with a cup of coffee and a kiss as she asked her to pick up some breakfast for them since Tina didnt feel like cooking. Bette shook her head as Tina named about three different places where she wanted specific things from and an hour later Bette was back with all of Tinas food. She was also amazed at the amount of food Tina had been able to consume lately and she joked about Tina eating them out of house and home. This joke did not go over well with Tina who got upset at Bettes joking and ended up yelling at her and locking herself in the bedroom. Bette shook her head and decided to let Tina chill out a little so she grabbed her laptop and headed outside to sit by the pool. She glanced at her watch and saw that it was only ten thirty so she decided she could get in an hour or so of work before they went to the class. At eleven thirty Tina finally emerged from the room to find Bette still sitting by the pool working diligently on her laptop. For some reason this irritated Tina and she walked outside and sat down on the chair next to Bette just staring at her. Bette finally looked up and gave her a small smile since she didnt know what mood Tina was in.

Hey baby

You know if you want to go back to work its fine by me Bette.

I dont TinaI was just doing a little work before the class.

Do you even want to go Bette? Or would you rather spend the afternoon working?

I want to go baby. I told youyou and the baby are the most important things to me.

Fine. Were leaving in an hour.

Okay. Are you hungry? Do you want me to get lunch?

No Ill just make a sandwich or something.

Tina got up and walked back to the house as Bette just sat there watching her walk away. She sighed loudly and looked down at her laptop with a blank stare. Bette knew Tina was just crabby because of the hormones raging through her system right now but sometimes she was a little hard to take. Bette worked for another half hour before going inside to grab lunch before they left. After she ate Bette looked around but couldnt find Tina anywhere. Finally she walked into the bedroom and found Tina sitting on the bed staring at the wall. Bette went over to her and gently sat down next to her pulling Tina into her arms. This was something that Tina had been doing a lot over the past couple of months and at first it scared Bette, she didnt like seeing Tina so dazed, but she quickly learned that this was usually when Tinas mood swings were happening and she could be really emotional at any given moment. Bette found that just holding Tina seemed to bring her back to earth and so Bette sat there holding her in her arms until Tina finally pulled away and looked Bette in the eye.

Im sorry babeI dont really mean to be so cranky.

I know ***** okayjust a few more weeks and I get my wife back.

Tina smiled at this and kissed Bette softly on the lips before getting up to change. Bette shook her head in amazement at Tinas drastic mood change and went back out to the living room to wait for her. Tina came out just as Alice arrived at the house and together the three of them headed off to the Lamaze class. Once they arrived Bette made Alice promise again to behave herself and they followed Tina inside. Alice took a seat near the door and got out her pad and pen and just sat quietly. Tina took a seat on the little mat among the other expectant mothers and Bette sat behind her placing her hands gently on Tinas shoulders. The instructor gave some directions to some breathing exercises and soon Tina was inhaling and exhaling in a rhythm that seemed to calm her down instantly. Bette placed her hands on Tinas back and began massaging like she was supposed to and soon Tinas breathing turned slightly more erratic. Tina glanced around her to see if anyone else was reacting like she was and when she saw no one was she turned to Bette and whispered quietly.

Babe

Yeah?

I think you should stop.

Why?

Bette looked confused for a second but when she saw the slight flush in Tinas cheeks she laughed softly. Bette went back to massaging Tina more professionally and tried to hold her laughter in. Tina resumed her breathing exercises and neither noticed Alice sneaking around the class. Alice was trying to interview different women and Bette finally pulled her away from a couple apologizing to them as she threw Alice back to her seat. After a few more exercises and some relaxation techniques Tina, Bette and Alice headed home. They stopped for ice cream since Tina was craving it and Alice made a face when Tina ordered a scoop of peanut butter with a scoop of strawberry cheesecake.

Is this one of her weird craving things?

Bette and Alice laughed as Tina hungrily dug into her ice cream and Bette took her hand as they walked back to the car. They got back to the house and Alice took off for Danas as Bette and Tina sat down on the couch. Bette walked over to her and sat down next to her and Tina immediately climbed into her lap. They sat there quietly for a little while before Bette realized Tina had fallen asleep. Bette looked down at her lovingly and thought about what their lives would be like in the upcoming months. With the baby due in a few weeks Bette knew things would never be the same and some part of her liked that idea while another part of her hated it. She was so happy with the way things were now and after everything that her and Tina had been through in the past year Bette wasnt sure she was entirely ready to share Tina with anyone. But Bette also knew she was looking forward to this baby so much that she could feel her love for their unborn child growing with each passing day. Tina stirred slightly in her sleep and Bette smiled when she saw the corners of Tinas mouth turn up. Bette kissed Tina lightly on the forehead before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.
