The gang is still at the planet talking:
Bette: Listen, this is the new me. This is how I dress; jeans, overalls and t-shirts. The paint gets over everything so there is no point dressing up. Besides, Im more comfortable this way. I dont need fancy clothes to be my armor and protect me anymore. I gave the suits to Tina who donated them.
Alice: All the suits?
Bette, smiling mischievously: Well, I did keep 1 or 2 for special occasions.
Alice: Ah, I knew it. Power Bette lurks beneath.
Tina: No, not really. Ive never seen Bette so relaxed. She just kinda goes with the flow now.
Bette took Tinas hand and gently kissed it: Thanks for sticking up for me T.
Shane: Whats the painting all about?
Bette: Thats what I do now for a living. I paint and then sell them at crafts fairs and to private clients . Im in town because Peggy talked me into doing a show of my work at a gallery here. Thats how Tina and I got back together.
Dana: Once again Im not following.
Bette: Some of the paintings are of Tina and me. They portray our old life together and I couldnt show them without getting Tinas approval. Kit intervened on my behalf and got Tina to come see me. Weve been together ever since.
Shane: What happened Bette? Why did you disappear on us?
Bette: Its a long story Shane. If you dont mind Id like to save it for another time or Tina and Alice can fill you in. I just dont have the strength to go through it again right now. Is that okay?
Shane: Yeah, Im cool. I just want to make sure youre not going to drop out of sight again.
Bette: Not a chance. Id like you all to come out to the beach house next weekend if thats okay.
Tina: Are you okay baby?
Bette: Im not sure. Im feeling a bit light headed. Maybe I should go to the bathroom and throw some water on my face.
Bette stood up and as soon as she did she doubled over in pain.
Tina: Bette I think we better get you to the hospital. Ill call Dr. Wilson on the way and see if shell meet us. Shane, can you drive us?
Shane was already running out the door to bring her truck around front. Alice and Dana helped put Bette in the truck.
Alice: Well meet you there. Hang in there Bette, everything is going to be fine.
Bette was barely aware of what was going on around her. It was too early for her to be in labor. She started praying like she never had before. She wanted this baby; she wanted to raise it together with Tina. She wanted so much to be a family. Everything was within her reach. How could fate be so cruel, to snatch it away from her when she was so close to having it all?
Tina: Bette, Bette, stay with me. Stay with me, baby.
Bette: Oh god T. Why is this happening? We were so close to having everything. Please dont let anything happen to our baby.
Tina: Im doing everything I can Bette. Please relax baby. Dr. Wilson is going to meet us at the hospital. Shane, how much longer?
Shane: Well be there in a second. Hold on Bette. We are almost there.
Shane pulled the car up to the emergency entrance and jumped out to help Tina get Bette inside. Once inside Bette was taken in the back and Tina, Shane, Alice and Dana went to the waiting room.
Tina was lost in thought. She couldnt believe this was happening. She knew that their relationship was strong enough now to get past this if Bette lost the baby but she prayed they wouldnt have to go through it. She kept on looking towards the door, looking for Dr. Wilson. Finally Dr. Wilson emerged and gave Tina and the gang a weak smile.
Dr. Wilson: Tina, Bette and the baby are going to be fine. She went into false labor but weve got it under control now. Ive spoken to her Doctor and we both agree that we want her to go on complete bed rest for the next several weeks. We will keep her here for a few more hours and then you can take her home. Tina, Bette would like to see you first before the rest of the gang go in.
Tina thanked Dr. Wilson and hurried into Bettes room. She walked over to the bed, leaned over to kiss Bette lightly on the lips and sat down holding Bettes hand.
Tina: Hey baby. How are you doing? Dr. Wilson said everything was going to be okay. I love you Bette, and I realized today how much Ive become attached to the baby. I dont know what I would do if something happened to either one of you.
Bette: I was so scared T. I dont know what I would do if I lost the baby. Im not sure I could take losing another one. This just brought back so many memories for me T. I know I need to take it easy but Im so stressed.
Bette started to cry and Tina moved to the bed and took Bette in her arms. Bette just cried, letting go of all her fears. Tina held her tight, and stroked her hair until she felt Bettes breathing even out.
Tina: Its all right Bette. Im here for you. We can get through this together. Weve got to decide where you are going to stay for the next few weeks. Your place has the stairs so Im not sure thats the best place for you. Id like for you to stay at my place. Ive got the room and I can take time off from work to take care of you. Plus Im sure the gang would be there to fill in. What do you think? Ill abide by whatever you decide.
Bette: I guess painting is out of the question for a while and the stairs are pretty much a show stopper. To be honest I would like nothing better than for us to be together during this. I love you T and weve spent too much time apart already.
Tina eyes were shining and she had a big smile on face. She leaned in to give Bette another kiss and whispered in her ear: I cant wait to get you home.
Tina left just then to get Alice, Dana and Shane. They spent the rest of the day at the hospital keeping Bette company. Bette filled them in on her life since she left and the other women did the same. Dr. Wilson came in around 5 to release Bette. Bette and Tina got into Shanes truck for the ride back to Tinas house. Bette was resting her head on Tinas shoulder and had her eyes closed. When they came to a stop she opened her eyes and looked out the window. She gasped when she saw where they were. She could barely get her words out.
Bette: Tina, this this is our old house.
