Can love conquer all?
“I do Tina said, with an enormous smile on her face.
The sun was setting on the horizon. It’s bright and feverish colourings, sprawled across the ocean. The light breeze blew through Bette’s hair as she slowly placed the ring on Tina’s finger.
They had decided that a renewal of there vowels was a good idea…In Hawaii. With a small crowd of friends and family.
It had been six months since Bette’s accident. And through out that time the relationship between Bette and Tina had grown so strong. That they felt that nothing was to big or to small that they couldn’t get through together.
“Oh my god, this is so sweet.” Dana couldnt hold her opinion in any more and decided to whisper it into Shane’s ear. Shane smiled and tears started to form in her own eyes. She one day hoped that she could find the love and the trust that Bette and Tina had.
“Shane is there something wrong? Was it something I said?” Dana looked utterly confused.
“No Dana, you didn’t do anything wrong. I just have sand in my eyes.”
Alice over heard what Dana had said to Shane and took the time to think about everything that the Bette and Tina had to go through, before they could be this happy. She was just glad that they never spilt up, because in her eyes, Bette and Tina WERE the perfect couple and if she didnt see that through them, what was the outcome for the rest of them. They needed some type of positive reinforcement, in so they could dream of their beautiful partner and some day do what Bette and Tina were doing now. She smiled as Tina put the ring on Bettes hand and said her vowels. Never letting go of Bette’s hand or their stare they that had between them.
Alice sat in silence staring and both the couples eyes and saw there, the love and devotion that they had for each other. Her heart melted at the sight of Bette crying, as the vowels were being said.
Tina looked into Bette’s eyes. Seeing her partners eyes well up with tears and hearing the ocean pounding onto the shore. They stood in the sunset, telling each other and everyone that was present how much they loved and cared for each other.
“Bette. We have been through so much. There have been many hard times. Yet I know that the good times out way, by far the bad. I love you with all my heart and soul. I have never been so happy. I stand before you today as Tina Kennard, your lover and helper through life. My heart goes to you, my life will be shared with you and so will my troubles and doubts. Please take this ring, as an expression of love and compassion for you…for us. Please know that you are always in my thoughts…in my heart every minute of every day. I love YOU Bette Porter and will never let you go.” Tears dribbled down Tinas face as she gently place the ring on Bette’s beautiful slim finger. She looked back up to see two tears on her partners cheeks and her hair flowing in the wind.
Their clothes were simple, yet elegant. Both dressed in white. Tina in a dress and Bette in a suit. Both of them had their hair down, and there feet were bear, so that they could feel the sand between their toes.
Their ceremony metres away from the water. Their family and friends all sitting on cushions and their feet were also bare. The only negative thing was, that they all had to bring sunglasses because they were looking towards the sun. They could see Bette and Tina’s glistening bodies, the sun giving them an extra special ora. It shone so brightly.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Or should I say at the beach. Everyone knew that it WAS going to work between them, it had to, they were meant for each other.
“And now we ask Dana, Alice and Shane, to come up here and say a few words.” The celebrant announced.
Tina and Bette moved aside so the three amigos could come up and have there say. Shane was first.
“Uh wow, (a small laugh, came from her lips) Bette and Tina, I know I haven’t been in your life for this whole journey, but I do know that you love each other so much. I know I don’t say much ‘sappy’ stuff, but I would just like to take this time to say thank you…For being in my life and showing me that they maybe a person out there who will love me, as much as you love each other. You have given me the hope and the courage to feel. I wish you all the best for the future and I hope that we share many more good times together.” It was unbelievable, everyone was gob-smacked. They had never heard so much in depth thought from Shane before. Her mascara ran down her face along with her tears. She quickly wiped it away and gave Tina and Bette both a hug and a kiss.
She whispered something into Bette’s ear. “Please don’t ***** this up.” Bette smiled at Shane. “Never.”
Shane walked past Dana and Alice and stood at the end of the line. Still wiping the tears away from her face.
Dana was up next. “Uhm hi guys.” She looked down at her hands and then took a deep breath and looked at the small crowd in front of her.
“Bette and Tina have always been there for us. To help us through what ever trouble we were in or the problems that needed to be solved…Well today it’s our turn.” She looked at Alice and Shane and smiled.
“It’s out turn to be here with you today. To celebrate what you have shared through the years…and thats love. Not only for each other, but for everyone that comes into your life. I know that you have been so good to me and one day I hope to return the favour. I love you two both, so very much. As a token of this love I give you these bands.” She placed the bands on Tina and Bette’s wrists. “They each have been engraved with something special, from me to you. Guys, I hope you have a great life together. You’re both special.” She smiled weakly at them, trying to hold in all the emotion. She gave Bette and Tina a hug and kissed and went to the end on the line. Standing next to Shane.
Last but certainly not least, Alice came up to the plate.
She stared at the sand for a moment and then smiled. “For the first time in my life… I’m speechless.” She started. Bette and Tina glanced at each other with smiles on their faces. It was only once-in-a-blue-moon that Alice was speechless and they felt so privileged that it was at there ceremony.
“I’ve known these two since the start of there relationship. They mean a lot to each other…And to me. They have been through some hard times, but they never gave up hope. They knew that deep down inside that they could get through it whatever God threw at them. They love each other so much… Its a genuine love… that only soul mates can find in each other… They have found such passion in each others hearts, that no one or no thing can take it away. ” She stared coldly at Bette, who felt a little embarrassed by the remark. “I was there to hear about the first kiss, to today when there are renewing their vowels. There love is deep and pumps through their veins. My heart goes out to them. I wish you all the best Bette and Tina.” She grabbed a hand from each of there sides and held it. “I want to see you have so many happy times together… And to see you grow old together.” She kissed their hands and gave both of them hugs and kisses.
There were sniffles from all five of them. “Group Hug!!” Dana screamed. And they all huddled together. They cried in each others arms as they hugged each other tightly.
They let go. Shane, Dana and Alice went back and sat down on their cushions.
“And now Bette would like to do something special for Tina.” The celebrant announced.
Bette took Tina’s hands and looked into her eyes.
“Baby, I know I’m not the greatest singer, but for the past couple of weeks I have been taking secret singing lessons just for this occasion.” She turned to Alice, who was holding a CD player on her lap. “Hit it”
There is something that I see
In the way you look at me
There’s a smile, there’s a truth
In your eyes
But in an unexpected way
On this unexpected day
Could it mean this is where I belong
It is you I have loved all along
It’s no more a mystery, it is finally clear to me
You’re the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved all along
Bette sang her heart out and surprisingly enough, she sounded pretty good.
There were times I ran to hide
Afraid to show the other side
Alone in the night without you
But I know just who you are
And I know you hold my heart
Finally this is where I belong
And it is you I have loved all along
It’s no more a mystery, it is finally clear to me
You’re the home my heart searched for so long
It is you I have loved all along
Over and over I’m filled with emotion
Your love rushes through my veins
And I am filled with the sweetest devotion
As I look into your perfect face
It’s no more a mystery, it is finally clear to me
You’re the home my heart searched for so long
It is you I have loved
It is you I have loved
It is you I have loved all along
The song finished and Bette looked at her partner. Tears streamed from her eyes.
“Bette that was so beautiful. Thank you so much.” She hugged Bette. Bette so desperately wanted to kiss her partner, but the magic words hadn’t been said yet.
“Through the power that has been invested in me. I now pronounce these two lovely women…Together.”
Finally Bette thought to herself. She grabbed Tina and dipped her. The kiss was sweet and beautiful. The small crowed cheered and screamed as they kissed. Bette pulled Tina back up and they both laughed.
Tina brought her face close to Bette’s ear. “You’re mine tonight, Oh you don’t know how long this day has been. I’m going to ***** you like there’s no tomorrow. I want to take you right here right now!”
Bette blushed a little but knew she felt the same way. They walked down their aisle, hand in hand. The sun on their backs and the future a head of them.
