    Dinner…15 years later

    Tina looked up at the waiter, trying her best not to show any irritation because of the interruption.

    Bette on the other hand, took a moment to take a breath and try to relax. She couldn’t believe that after all these years, she was once again sitting at a dinner table with Tina. However, for all her excitement about seeing Tina again, she hated the fact that she also felt a little guilty, because a small part of her wasn’t sure if this was a good thing. She really had changed over the years, and was happy with the person she had become. She knew she wasn’t the same person Tina fell in love with 22 years ago. She wasn’t sure how much of that person still existed.

    “Bette…what would you like to order?”

    “Hmm…oh, sorry. I’ll have the Shrimp Portofino, and a salad with the house dressing. Thanks.”

    Tina had been watching Bette and could see that there was some sadness in her eyes. She wondered where that was coming from. “So, you were saying that Nica and you have been together for 11 years.”

    Bette gave Tina a half smile that was clearly laced with sadness now. “No, what I was about to say was Nica was my partner for 11 years, until we lost her about three years ago.”

    Tina sucked in her breath and reached out for Bette’s hand. “Oh my God, Bette! I am so sorry!”

    “Thanks Tina. I have to say that the pain of losing her isn’t quite as acute today, but I still miss her terribly.” Bette looked out the window for a moment and then looked at Tina and smiled. “She was a wonderful woman Tina, and I know this may sound strange, given our past, but I really think you would have loved her too.” For the first time since they sat down, Bette felt a little more at ease. “You two share a lot of the same qualities. She was so kind…always happy, always giving of herself, yet she was sharp as a tack and had a very wicked, dry sense of humor. And for whatever reason, she loved me unconditionally.” Bette squeezed Tina’s hand. “I have been so lucky in my life to have been loved like that twice.”

    Tina felt horrible. All she had been thinking about for the last 24 hours was that she wanted to be in Bette’s arms again, sleeping next to her, waking up next to her again. Yet here Bette was, obviously still grieving over the loss of her partner, who she so clearly loved. God Tina. She couldn’t help admitting though, that seeing Bette after all these years had forced her into realizing that she had never stopped loving Bette…had never fallen out of love with her. Poor Dan, for as much as Tina had loved him, and she really had loved him, he never had a chance. Their marriage had been doomed to fail from the start.

    “Oh Bette…may I ask how she died?”

    Bette again looked out the window, not focusing on anything in particular. “It was an accident,” she whispered. Bette cleared her throat and looked back at Tina. “It was a stupid accident. Nica had been out Christmas shopping and had her arms full of bags. It was pouring down rain, so she had the hood of her jacket up to try to keep her head dry. She was rushing, trying to get home before the presents got wet. Onlookers said they saw her look to see if any traffic was coming, but because of her hood, she didn’t notice a gray car that was coming toward the intersection in the curb lane. She stepped right off the curb into the car. The driver of the car had no chance whatsoever to react. Nica was killed instantly.”

    Tina watched as a lone tear slowly drifted down Bette’s cheek. “Oh Baby, I am so sorry.” She could think of nothing else to say, so she just held Bette’s hand, and the two sat in silence thinking about what a tragic loss, not only for Nica’s life, but for all the people who loved her.

    3. thanks for posting this tonight even though I think you should have left us hangin. I think Bette may have loved Nica alot she obviously never got over Tina and still loves her deeply, why would she name her gallery Kennter if she didn’t.

Seahurst this story has had me thinking since you started postin it and I wrote this down- Miss Me -Running rivers of salty fear – Flood the banks of time – Burning pain begins to seer – Alanguage of riddle and rhyme what was known has been lost – Fame loses shimmer – Flowers die in the frost – Dirty diamonds glimmer – Broken glass leads the way to the liar od darkness – Lifees torn painting fills the day , dies with one remark -No one sees the traveling light – Miss Me, know I’m gone – She is fed on by the night, my other life goes on. Just wantd to know alittle inspiration.Thanks

    18. Thanks Seahurst for posting this chapter tonight. It really has helped to answer some questions that we “ALL” have been wanting the answers to. You just have to know that you just can’t let us suffer for 2 days like that. Now we will have some patients and allow your timeto post your next chapter. We are enjoying the story, even though so much time has come between them. Hey that is what this LOVE STORY is all aboutand we willfind out in time all the other unanswered questions that are still hanging out there.

    21. so much saddness with Bette, and the changes I would like to read about. I thought that you would of broken Bette up with Nica but the saddness just keeps coming from all corners. Now I really have my concerns if any reconciliation can even happen. Maybe if Tina just confides in to Bette that she never stopped Loving for her maybe? I will stay with the story keeping my fingers crossed I won’t hold my breath that may be to defremental on my part. Great Chapter, will watch for the next one on your time.
