    Long distance phone call…and who heard what?

    “Mom?”

    Tina whipped her head up, feeling a fleeting moment of panic, before calming herself. “Paul.” Tina hesitated for a moment, then spoke into the phone, reminding herself not to say Bette’s name. “Could you hold on for a sec?”

    Bette had heard Paul’s voice. “Sure Tina, go ahead.”

    Tina covered the phone with her hand. “What do you need honey?”

    Paul shifted back and forth from one foot to the next. “Uh…I was kind of hungry, so I thought I’d come down and see if there was anything to munch on. I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to interrupt.” It sunk in at that moment that his Mother was sitting on the floor with her legs pulled up to her chest. He looked at her with concern. “Geez Mom, are you Ok?”

    Tina started to stand up, sensing her son’s concern, but also seeing confusion in his eyes. “I’m fine honey. Why don’t you give me five minutes and we’ll look for something to eat together?”

    “Ok Mom…” Paul knew his Mom wanted him to leave the room, but he couldn’t quite get himself to move. He had overheard her say, ‘I love you too, Baby,’ and he wanted to know who she was talking to, since he knew she didn’t say that to his Dad any more.

    Tina realized by Paul’s hesitation that he had overheard her profession of love to Bette. She smiled at him and reached out to touch his cheek. “Paul honey, go up to your room and I’ll call you when I’m done.”

    Paul kind of lowered his head and grudgingly went upstairs.

    Tina took a deep breath. “God Bette, I’m sorry. I think Paul overheard me, and…well, I’m just not ready to have this conversation with my children. I mean…I just don’t know how to approach it. You know, I never even told Dan that it was a woman who had my heart. He knew that I was in a seven year relationship and that I was still in love when the relationship ended. He also knew there was infidelity, but I never told him you were a woman. He didn’t ask for a lot of specifics and I didn’t provide them. I just didn’t want to have him worrying about whether or not he was satisfying me, or wondering if I would want to go back to being with a woman, so I just left our conversations gender neutral. God, I’m so sorry. I just never thought…I thought I would never see you again.”

    “Tina…baby, it’s Ok. I totally understand. Listen, there is no reason for you to tell them right now…I mean, you will have to eventually…like when I start following you around like a puppy dog…but until then, don’t worry about it.”

    Tina giggled at the thought of Bette following her around with those big beautiful brown eyes of hers. “I know I don’t have to now, but you’re right, I will eventually, and I can tell you that I am already getting nervous about it.”

    “Don’t be nervous, Baby. Your kids are wonderful, and it’s obvious that they adore you. So…in the mean time, what can I do to help you overcome this nervousness?” Bette knew Tina couldn’t see her facial expression, but she wiggled her eyebrows anyway.

    Tina didn’t need to see Bette’s face to know what she was doing and what her meaning was behind that question. “God Bette, don’t even go there. It has been 15 years.” Tina stopped, thinking about what she just said. “I can’t believe it has been so long, and that we can pick up having this kind of conversation like it was yesterday.”

    “Yea, I know…I feel the same way. I always was more comfortable around you than anyone… Tina, what are we going to do. I miss you so much already, and you’ve only been gone,” Bette look up at the clock, “seven hours. And I have to tell you, talking with you on the phone, just makes me want to see you even more.” Bette sat up straight in her chair. “***** it Tina, what is your schedule like this next week?”

    Tina’s heart started beating faster and she could feel her excitement already building. *****, why hadn’t she thought of this before. She grabbed the kitchen calendar off the wall. “Bette, I just remembered that starting Monday, Dan and Kathy will have the kids for three weeks. He takes them camping every year in August. Sometimes I join them for a part of the time, but for the most part, they are gone the entire three weeks. Oh God Bette! Can you come out here? I’d love to show you Seattle.”

    Jesus Tina…I’m booking my ticket now! Go make Paul something to eat and I’ll call you back later with my schedule…I love you, Baby.

    “I love you to Bette…and Baby?”

    “Yea T?”

    “I know you have changed a lot, but I have to tell you that it is nice to see that some things haven’t changed.”

    Bette furrowed her eyebrows, wondering what Tina was talking about. “What things Tina?”

    “The part of you that goes after what you want like a steam roller! Now, get off the phone and book your flight, so you can call me back!!!!

    1. I heart this story. Yes, the chapter was short, but sweet, which is better than not having anything at all. I hope you can finish your reading so you can write aobut Bette’s visit to Seattle toute de suite. Yay!

    2. Coming out to her ex and kids is probably going to be harder than coming out to her parents. Seattle is a beautiful city. It’s going to be fun for me to tour the city again (through your eyes) with B&T.

These two are so fucking adorable and I agree it is amazing how they can come back together after 15 years like it was only yesterday but I guess when you got that spark it comes naturally but I don’t think Dani I will have a problem with their relationship seeming that she adore Bette already
