The Hospital-ICU

Lara sat in the waiting room with her hands cupping her face. She had called Dana and Alice and they were on the way. Lara had been crying for hours and the doctors wouldn’t tell her anything.

“Oh my god Lara where is, what happened…how” Alice broke down into tears and collapsed into Dana’s arms no longer able to keep her balance. Lara stood speechless, trembling, she wasn’t expecting Nylan to make it having seen her lying there lifeless.

“Where’s Shane” Lara asked wiping away her tears with her sleeves.

“I dunno…we can’t find her and she’s not answering her phone either” Dana said craddling her girlfriend, “Well what have they said” Dana asked her eyes welling up with tears.

“They won’t tell me anything…they’re waiting for a next of kin” Lara burst into tears and fell back into her chair. Tina and Bette burst through the doors with Kit following close behind.

“Is she okay…I” Kit began but she lost control and let her tears fall. Bette hugged Kit trying to calm her nerves and Tina stood transfixed and not able to move or speak.

“Tina are you okay” Lara touched Tina’s shoulder but she never answered. They all stared at her waiting for the breakdown but she just sat down in a chair and calmly asked, “Where’s Shane?”.


Ambrosia’s Suite

“Why’d you do it…why did you sleep with my best friend…I can’t believe it I loved you…why did you have be such a cold hearted *****” Shane said falling to the ground and sobbing. Ambrosia’s fell to the floor with Shane and held her face.

“I didn’t want to she…she made me sleep with her…she said the only way she would work with me was if I slept with her and that was before I met you Shane..I love you” Shane slapped Ambrosia’s hands away from her face causing her to fall back.

“You ***** liar you *****” Shane yelled as she attacked Ambrosia, wrapping her hands around her neck and squeezing tightly.

“Shane please” Ambrosia begged as she struggled for air.


ICU

“Hi I’m Dr. Reynolds…are either of you next of kin” the doctor asked looking around at the circle of friends, “I’m looking for a Ms. Bette Porter, Kit Porter and…”. Kit interrupted the doctor raising her hand, “That’s me and this is my sister she’s Bette Porter”.

“Oh okay…but there’s one missing” Everyone turned and looked at each other before Alice added, “Shane McKutcheon we can’t get in touch with her at this moment so…” Dr Reynolds stared at Alice strangely before responding.

“There is no Shane McKutcheon listed here ma’am” The group looked even more puzzled with this bit of information.

“So who is listed then” Bette asked and the doctor glanced at his list to be completely sure before answering them.

“It’s a Ms…”

Ambrosia’s Suite

Shane let go of her grip on Ambrosia’s neck quickly when she saw the look of fear on her face, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean it” she fell back against the wall and cried. She felt a chill run down her spine as she felt a vibration against her leg. Shane pulled out her phone and realized she had a message. She looked down at Ambrosia who was sobbing loudly as she curled into a ball. Shane got up and walked out of the door and stopped to place the box with the ring in it on the dresser before leaving.

ICU

“Kayla Perez” the woman answered as she approached the group. They all stared back at the woman neither of them having ever seen her before. She had brown eyes, brown hair, and brown skin, the color of cocoa because of her biracial heritage. Kayla tossed her wavy hair to the side as she adjusted her purse and looked back at the group.

“And who are you…if you don’t mind me asking” Bette inquired, asking the question that was on everyone’s minds.

“Bette…I’m guessing” she smiled and moved down the line, “Kit, Dana, Alice, Tina, and you must the person I talked to earlier…Lara right” Lara nodded.

“Well you know who we are but who are you” Kit asked and Kayla squinted and stared back confused until she realized that none of them knew just who she really was in fact.

“I’m Kayla…Nylan’s wife” the whole room stood still for a minute, a familiar voice breaking the silence.

“Kayla” Shane said low and Kayla smiled pulling Shane in quickly for a hug.

“Shane”

*Flashback*

Shane and Nylan-Teenagers NY

“Shane, Nylan meet my daughter Kayla” Dr. Henderson said smiling back at the two girls who eyes were wide while their mouths hung open. Nylan, Shane, and Dr. Henderson had become really close over the past few months, she treated them like the mother neither of them had ever had, in fact she loved them just as much as she loved Kayla, her one and only daughter. Kayla was adopted by Dr. Henderson after her abusive husband Larenzo Perez and her separated and the court ruled him to be an unfit parent. It was apparent from the start that Nylan and Shane lusted for the beautiful girl but they made a pact.

“Neither of us will ever date her…okay” Shane said and they shook hands.

“Never” Nylan said.

*End of Flashback*

“How have you been” Kayla asked.

“Good and you” Shane responded. Kayla held up her hand revealing a very expensive ring.

“Married” Kayla smiled and Shane wondered about the whole situation so she asked, “Who’s the lucky lady” and everyone looked around feeling the tension.

“Can I see my mommy now” the voice said from below Shane and everyone stared down at the little boy that had appeared out of nowhere fighting through the crowd unnoticed by the circle of people. Shane looked down at the boy caramel skin, curly black hair, and gray eyes, the same gray eyes. She looked to Kayla for answers but she only smiled and looked down at the boy who appeared to be around six years old. The boy stared back at Shane waiting to be noticed before he spoke, he reached in his pockets and pulled out a picture of Shane standing beside Nylan, it was taken when they were teenagers.

“You’re my Aunt Shane” he said handing the picture to Shane. She looked back and forth between the boy and the picture, her eyes filling with tears.

“I thought” Shane began and Kayla reached out and touched her arm gently.

*Flashback*

A Clinic – New York

“Nylan Pierson” the nurse called out. Nylan looked to Shane as she got up, she turned back and whispered to Shane.

“I know what I have to do now…so just leave and I’ll come to LA soon I promise” Shane hugged Nylan before she turned and walked out of the clinic leaving her friend to deal with the problem on her own, it was what she wanted.

*End of Flashback*

“That’s Nylan’s son” Tina’s voice cut through the crowd it being the only few words she had spoken since arriving at the hospital. She stood up to greet the young boy, “What’s your name” she smiled.

“Isiah Shane Pierson” Tina fainted as she reached for the boy’s extended hand. The group rushed to her side calling her name and waiting for a response.

“She’s flatlined Dr. Reynolds” the nurse yelled.
