If it is meant to be…Chapter 15

“…to get to know the woman, I am so in love with.”

Tina let out a sign and lowered her voice into the phone. “I can’t wait Bette. The kids are leaving on Monday. What day are you flying in?”

“Tuesday. I’m catching the same flight you were on, so I will be there around 12:30. Don’t worry about picking me up. I’ll arrange a ride to the hotel.”

“Bette, of course I’m going to pick you up. Geez, I’m so excited that you are coming, that I would pilot the plane myself if I could.” Tina giggled into the phone, then stopped as the last part of Bette’s sentence sunk in. “Hotel…Baby, why are you going to stay at a hotel? I have plenty of room and the house will be empty.”

Bette took a deep breath, hesitating before explaining her feelings to Tina. “T…I am so excited to see you, to spend this time with you…but…” Bette blew out a breath, knowing she was not going to be able to get the right words out. She was so much more open with her emotions now than she was fifteen years ago, but still…this was really hard. “…but I think I would be a little uncomfortable in your home, that you shared with Dan…that you share with your children, who don’t know about us yet…I mean, what if they came home early? But more than that Tina, it has been a lifetime since we were intimate with each other, and that last time was devastating.” Bette shuttered. “Plus, I haven’t made love with someone in the three years since Nica died. Please understand, but I just need to have my own space.”

Inwardly, Tina was disappointed in Bette’s decision. She wanted Bette here with her, because unlike Bette, Tina was totally ready to share a physical relationship with Bette…TOTALLY READY! Her ***** life with Dan had been fulfilling, but she also hadn’t had ***** in a long time, and Tina had an excellent memory when it came to her ***** life with Bette Porter. But, she didn’t want to push Bette. “Are you sure? I mean, nothing says we have to sleep in the same room Bette. I have a guest room.”

“Please Tina…I’m sorry, but…well…it would feel weird being in the same house as you, but not sharing a bed, and I can’t do that yet, because……………I’m just really scared.”

Tina wanted to crawl through the phone and wrap Bette in her arms. God, she loved who this woman has become! She couldn’t get enough of this emotionally available Bette. She just wanted…more. “I understand Bette. Don’t worry about it. We will go at whatever pace is comfortable for both of us. We are going to spend this time getting to know each other again, and if that includes a physical relationship, I am all for it, but if it doesn’t…I will understand.”

At that last statement, Bette decided to lighten the mood. Her natural charm rose up through her fear, back to the surface. “Well, let’s not get carried away Tina. I didn’t say I don’t want a physical relationship at all…I just said that I’m scared, and that I don’t want to be…” She clears her throat. “…intimate in the bedroom you shared with Dan.”

Tina smiled into the phone. “You’re so smooth Porter….Ok, don’t worry…if you’re scared Baby, I will protect you.”

Now it was Bette’s turn to smile into the phone. “Now see, I feel better already.”

    ~ ~ ~

Dani was sitting in her room drawing, when there was a light knock on her door. “Enter!”

Paul opened the door and walked in to his sister’s room. “Hey Dani…can I talk to you for a sec?”

    “Hey Paul, what’s shakin?”

“I wanted to talk to you about Mom.”

    “What about Mom?”

“Well,…do you know if she is dating someone?”

Dani looked at her brother confused. “What do you mean? Mom’s not dating anyone…at least, not as far as I know, and I’d think we would know, right? I mean, she’s always here, or with one of us. She doesn’t have time to date anyone. Why?”

“Well…I heard her on the phone earlier, talking to someone…I don’t know who it was, but I heard her say ‘I love you too, Baby.’ Who do you think she was talking to?”

Dani furrowed her eyebrows, getting a strange feeling in her stomach. She wondered….no…it couldn’t be…could it…what about the way she reacted when she saw the gallery sign, Kennter…or the look in her eyes when she introduced them…or what about the deflected kiss at the airport? Dani got it that her Mom turned her face at the last second….Dani may only be 13, but she was a very observant 13 year old…Oh, *****!

    Dani?”

No, Dani wasn’t going to share this with Paul, or her Mom for that matter. She would let her Mom tell her. That would be more comfortable for them both, and who knows…maybe she was wrong.

“Uh…I don’t know Paul. I guess she’ll tell us if she is dating someone.”

Paul took a deep breath. “Ok, I just hope he’s nice, and that he likes kids.”

Dani smiled at her brother. “Paul, don’t worry. Mom has good taste. She wouldn’t date anyone that wasn’t really great.”

“Ok…But I don’t see why she has to date anyone anyway. I think we are doing just fine around here.”

“Paul, it’s been two years since Dad left. Give Mom a break. She needs to have someone to…”

“Eeewww, don’t go there Dani! Geez…you’re talking about Mom!!!”

They both started laughing, and at that moment, Tina knocked and then opened the door at stuck her head in.

“Hey you two. What’s all the fun about?”

Dani and Paul both stopped laughing, but couldn’t suppress their smiles. “Nothing Mom…uh…we were just talking about Paul’s driving experience.”

Tina laughed. “Ok, well listen…it is time for bed. Lights out in ten minutes. Ok?”

Paul got up and said good night and went to his room.

Tina walked into the room and went over to hug Dani. “Good night sweetheart.”

Dani looked up and smiled at Tina. “Night Mom”

Tina looked at the smile on Dani’s face. “What’s that smile for?”

“Nothing Mom…I just love you and want you to be happy.”

Tina reached down and hugged Dani again, then tickled her a little bit. “Why thank you for thinking of me. I love you too honey…and I am very happy, so not to worry.”

Tina went downstairs, wandering through her house…waiting…hoping…that very soon, her life would be complete in every way she had always dreamed it would be.

    2. It seems that some are asking for more, will I will take what you post. This chapter was very light and informative. Especially when small ears hear thing and observe things when us Adults feel that they didn’t see or hear the obvarious. The kids are going to Love Bette. Bette will she is so smooth. She will have her way with Tina, it may yake a few days and a few nights but the Porter urge will come. Thanks, catch the next chapter .

    4. I am just so in love with this wonderful story, Seahurst!..it moves me, uplifts me, and puts a smile on my face..not many stories have that kinda affect on me..excellent writing, as always..

    5. This is such a sincere story…and its true…even the test of time cannot destroy true love (yes i am a hopeless romantic). Can’t wait to see how their first meeting goes…and how the kids deal with the situation. Great writing…please continue

    6. Tina more assertive and Bette a little timid…..sounds like their roles reversed. Im very impressed at how wonderful this story is developing. Let’s hope the rest of Tina’s kids are like Dani, she seems cool with the possibility of a B&T as long as her Mom is happy. Wonderful Job as usual Seahurst

    7. Thanks for the wonderful build-up. I’m confident Bette’s fears will be assuaged once she sees Tina and has her all by herself. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Again, please make it longer, these are so short to have to wait a full 24 hours for the next update. Oh how I’m loving this story!

    8. Another great chapter. You’re turning me into a romantic..lol. So, are we there yet? (said in the tone of a small child traveling from NY to Seattle)

    9. Seahurst, I read all 15 chapters today (at work :-O!) and can I just say, you are a gifted and inspired writer!…this story is simply beautiful!…please continue to post!

Don’t know how many time I can tell you this over and over, but I love this story!

    11. I so look forward to this story and you never disappoint. For some reason I have a nagging feeling that you are going to have them find each other again only to realize you can’t go back. Prove me wrong…Please?

    12. I love this story, seahurst. Like Sunday said, we Floridians are getting hit with Hurricane Charley tomorrow…post one more chapter before then to leave us with happy B&T thoughts?

    13. Whoohooo! It´s getting hot in here…! or let´s say in Seattle! Can´t wait for the next chapter! Nice try with the “hotel”, but who really believes that Bette will ever see that hotel room from the inside? Not me!!!Unless Tina is going with her…:-) (what we all are hoping, right?)!

    14. can’t wait until Bette gets into Seattle.. I love that you’ve put so much into the story and not just the lovin. I’m not sayin no to the lovin but loved how you balanced the story. You’re awsome. I want to find out the reactions of her children and ppl around Tina. Later on probably to see the group getting together again at some point would be interesting. Can’t wait for the next one!!!

    15. Well it seems like Dani approves of Bette, so I’m happy. I hope Tina gets to talk to her kids about it soon. Bette is too cute sharing her feelings. Wonderful job, Sea!

    16. You might not to able to go back, Thank goodness you can start aver. You might not be able to forget the past, but you can sure push it way out of you mind. Let see a lot of hot days and nights in Seattle.until Melaine gets there.

    17. ok,ok,so here i go again, or rather “say again”…for those of us that have permanently camped out at SEATAC airport and are awaiting the arrival of bette to reconnect back to tina and a new point in their lives…as usual, with your superb insight and clarity of vision for the characters and this story, my usual, gracious TEN THUMBS UP to you for taking the time and sharing this vision quest with us all.
i do not think anyone of us reading the chapters you write can express beyond what has been said so far…wonderful, excellent, soothingly sensual with more of a centered connection between the two characters as they make attempts to learn of each other’s “newness” towards each other…i personally grow extremely impatient with my working day to end so i may return to this story. can i top the continued WHOOHOO’s, yippies, “awwwww’s”, too “cute’s”, simply superb, waiting to anticipate and participate in spirit and thought WITH each character’s emotions…nope. i guess i can’t top the praise to you and your writings. most excellent!!! and, a MOST continued success to you in your additions of this story. and thank you again.
