ICU

“What…what’s happening” Kit screamed as she became torn in between staying with Tina and following the doctor, she chose to follow Dr. Reynolds. Kayla didn’t give the situation a second thought as she bolted through the doors of the ICU. Shane tried to stop her but Kayla was out of her reach before she knew it. Tina opened her eyes to see Bette, Shane, Dana, Lara, and Alice staring back down at her with worried expressions. Shane felt something yanking at her jacket, Isiah was tugging on her zipper. Shane walked them both over to the chairs and sat down.

“Isiah Shane Pierson huh” Isiah nodded smiling that all to familiar smile and flashing those gray eyes. Shane rubbed the curls on Isiah’s head and smiled back at him. She wanted to cry as she thought about what Nylan would be leaving behind and her heart ached but she didn’t know if it was more for Isiah or herself.

“I’m okay you guys I just…” Tina held out her hand and her friends helped her to her feet and over to a chair, she was now sitting directly across from Isiah. She stared at him, he looked exactly like Nylan and as he smiled at Shane his dimples appeared. Tina eyes welled with tears, “I have to see her Bette…I have to see her one last time” she whispered. Bette touched her face as she turned around to look at the beautiful little boy, she closed her eyes and stared at the floor before she got up to follow Kit and Kayla.

“Get them out of here” Dr. Reynolds yelled as Nylan’s body jumped from the voltage. The nurses began pushing Kit and Kayla out of the door, they both bumped into Bette who had a worried look on her face. The nurses backed them all back out into the waiting area where the rest of the family was waiting. Dana was leaning up against a wall while Alice rested her head on her chest, Tina was still watching Isiah who was entralled in a conversation with Shane while Lara was sitting in the corner crying and in shock about the whole situation.

“A wife and a kid…boy that’s going to be a whole lot for Tina to swallow” Alice cocked her head to the side in thought and she looked over to Shane and Isiah.

“He’s the spitting image of Nylan…he looks to be about six maybe seven so that means she had him before we knew her but how because as long as I’ve known Nylan she’s been ***** and this wife thing…how the ***** did she manage to lock Nylan down” Alice asked and she looked back at Kayla who wiping away tears, Kit hugged her close as she watched the little boy ‘Nylan will be leaving a lot behind’ she thought.

“I don’t want her to die Al” was Dana’s response to Alice’s comment and she glanced at the floor as she began to sob loudly. Alice pulled her girlfriend close letting her head fall on her shoulders while she too cried but not to loud not wanting Isiah to hear her.

“Where’s my mommy Aunt Shane…is she going to heaven to be with the angels” Shane sat with her mouth wide open unable to respond and trying hard not to cry. Kayla joined to two of them, she sat down and smiled at Isiah and Shane.

“Mommy’s going to be okay” she said not believing her own words but the fear of telling Isiah overpowered Kayla’s mind. Lara walked over to them and kneeled down to the boy, Kayla grabbed her hand and squeezed it silently thanking her letting her know about Nylan.

“Hi Isiah I’m Lara…do you wanna go with to the snack machine and get some candy…I mean if its alright with your mom” Isiah eagerly looked at Kayla for an answer, she nodded and Lara took his hand leading him away from the crowd of somber people.

“So how long have you and Nylan been together” Shane asked wanting to take her mind off of everything else looking at the beautiful woman Shane thought resembled that latina actress Eva Mendes.

“Well we were togther before Nylan left New York seven years ago but we’ve only been married for two years” Shane mouth dropped open in shock that Nylan was married number one but two had been with Kayla for seven years, “We’ve been separated for a couple of months though…Nylan has a problem” Shane shook her head knowingly ‘she has a problem with being faithful’, “and it wasn’t being faithful…I mean I knew about all the other woman before we were married but afterwards she never stepped out on me and even if she did I would have still loved her”Shane put her arm around Kayla’s shoulders trying to comfort her.

“She doesn’t deserve this Bette…you know and what about that little boy he’s going to be without a mother” Kit cried as she spoke and Bette hugged her tightly as tears flowed down her cheeks. Tina sat with her arms wrapped around her body, Nylan had secrets but so did Tina, she’d slept with Bette, how could she ever forgive herself.

A Few Hours Later…

They all sat comforting one another while Tina sat alone, Kayla noticed how withdrawn Tina’s demeanor was so she got up and took a seat beside her.

“Nylan always spoke highly of all you especially you Tina…she always said you were so sweet and loving” Kayla grabbed Tina’s hand and smiled giving her hand a squeeze.

“How come you two are not living together…I mean I’m sorry its none of my business” Tina dismissed her comment but Kayla decided to answer her question.

“We were separated…our marriage has some problems…its not as solid as yours and Bette’s you know” Kayla added.

“Why are you separated…I mean did Nylan…cheat on you” Tina asked trying to change the subject but she also really wanted to know if Nylan had been unfaithful during their marriage. Kayla studied the floor unable to speak at first.

“No…she…Nylan was…”Dr. Reynolds walked into the room full of down faces.

“I need to speak with you and you please” he said pointed to Bette and Kit and Kayla.

“I think you should talk with all of us…we all are her friends” Bette said and Kit and Kayla nodded their agreement.

“Well Ms. Piersons’ in a coma now…she’s still in critical condition…its kind of touch and go right now but there is one thing all of you should consider and that is getting tested to see if you’re a match for Ms. Pierson” they all looked around confused at the doctor’s request.

“A match for what” Shane said low and cool and it was facade because inside she was dying.

“Well…Nylan had a problem…” Dr. Reynolds began.

“She was an alcoholic” Kayla blurted out unable to keep them in suspense.

“Yes and her kidneys have taken quite a beating from all the drinking” the doctor glanced around looking into all of their faces.

“What how long” Kit asked.

“Ever since she left LA the first time but I didn’t think it was a problem until the accident” Kayla had their undivided attention now, “no one was hurt and to prevent any bad publicity her record company covered the whole thing up, I couldn’t take seeing her throw her life away so me and Isiah moved out. She called a couple of days later and said she was checking into a rehab in LA but it was a lie”. Lara walked into the waiting room with Isiah but she stayed away from the discussion circle because she didn’t want Isiah to over hear anything.

“I want to get tested” Shane was the first to volunteer and everyone else agreed. Lara joined the group after getting Isiah situated and nodded her agreement. Everyone went got tested one by one, each of them praying they would be a match.


Hours Later…

Everyone was asleep except for Dana and Shane who kept dozing off. Both of them stood up as they seen Dr. Reynolds come over with his clipboard, he cleared his throat before speaking.

“Well I have some good news…there are three matches…one exact match and two that are just as good” they looked around at each other.

“Who’s the exact and why is this person so special” Alice asked yawning at the end of her sentence.

“This person has the same blood type, cross matching antigens, and human leukocyte antigens” Dr. Reynolds added.

“What’s a human leukowhatevers” Dana inquired her face twisted in confusion.

“You only get six…three from each parent” Dana’s face became even more twisted as they all looked around thinking the doctor must have some type of mistake.

*Flashback*

“It’s a baby girl” the doctor yelled.

“She’s beautiful” the nurse said as she handed the baby to the woman, “what’s her name”.

“Natalie” she said.

“Natalie Elizabeth Porter” the woman smiled down at her package.

*End of Flashback*

“There’s gotta be some type of mistake here Nylan’s mom died five years ago” Shane added.

“Not her real mother Shane” Kit said low.

“Kit…Gladys was her only mother what…what do you mean” Shane asked.

“I’m her mother Shane…I’m Nylan’s real mother” Kit yelled.

“What the ***** this is way too much ***** drama for one day…is there anything else anyone and I mean anyone has to tell us” Alice screamed.

“I slept with Bette at the exhibit the other night” Alice stood with her mouth wide open and Kayla wondered what was so bad about Tina sleeping with her own wife. Shane, Kit,Dana, and Bette stood frozen with shock.
