    6 Months- chapter 13

Bette had yet to hear anything from anyone, but she was not worried.  She had only mailed the letter Monday night and who only knew how long it would take to get from New York to LA.

Things at the gallery were progressing.  She and James had gotten into a comfortable routine with each other, and both seemed to work well with Ansley.

The gutting process was done and the remodeling phase was beginning.  “How ironic is that?” Bette thought to herself.  As she had anticipated, she was the driving force behind all decisions and directions that the gallery needed.  James was in the process of trying to get their IT system set up which left Bette to focus on the creative side.

Ansley was still coming by as much as before, but seemed to have every bit of faith in Bette and her decisions.  As a matter of fact, she laughingly chided Bette a couple of times reminding her that she did not need to run everything through her.  She was there just to witness the progress, not spy on what they were doing.  Ansley enjoyed Bette’s company and found her exhilarating.  She knew that was a strange way of describing Bette, but it was the first word that came to mind when she thought of Bette.  She knew nothing of Bette Porter outside of the gallery.  She did not know if she was seeing anyone, and found that somewhat intriguing.  Bette appeared to intentionally keep her private life closely guarded and the few attempts that Ansley had made at non-gallery conversation were very smoothly and yet directly turned back to work.

“Maybe I make her uncomfortable” she thought to herself, but that did not make sense because Bette seemed to like her.  She looks like she is carrying a world of hurt in her though.  If you looked close enough into her eyes, you could see something there and if she were to bet, would say that whatever it was, had not always been there.

Her subtle attempts to learn more about Bette from Peggy were always completely shot down with nothing but a look.  She did not know why it was that she wished to learn so much more about Bette.  She was stunning, smart and talented, but knew that there was more to it than that.

    2. tinawho?, I hope Bette is just feeling good that a beautiful woman is noticing her. All I can think about is Candace and Bette seemed to have already crossed that line of a working relationship. I love your story, skipton, and I can’t wait to see where you decide to take it. Do we get to see their reaction to the letter next? Pleeeeaaaassssseeee – pretty please :)
