Nylan’s eyes fluttered rapidly as Dr. Reynolds stared down at her, Tina and Alice were on the outside of the
room looking through the glass window. They held hands, both of them silently praying to themselves as the doctor continued to check Nylan’s vitals.

“What is going on in there” Tina asked and Alice glanced her and then back to Dr. Reynolds, unable to give an honest answer.

Nylan’s Psyche

“No one loves you Nylan…you don’t even love yourself” her mother kept chanting. Nylan continued to shake her head no.

“I love you Nylan” Nylan recognized the voice but she couldn’t fnd a face, her head jerked left and right trying to find the satisfaction she craved, to be LOVED.


The Waiting Room

Bette sat with her arm draped over Kit’s shoulders while Kit’s head rested on her both of her hands. Bette glanced around at Shane and Kayla, whose eyes were planted on the floor, unable to make contact with anyone else’s gaze unitl she noticed Isiah smiling widely in her direction. She smiled back as she looked into his gray eyes and then a tall man rushing towards them caught her attention. He scanned the room looking for a familiar face stopping at the young boy who immediately reminded him of someone. Kit’s sobs averted his attention as he placed his eyes upon a woman he hadn’t seen in years.

“Kit” he said walking over and touching her forearm gently. Kit jerked from suprise as she became face to face with the familiar gray eyes. Bette glanced back and forth between the two of them, she studied the man. He was tall, his hair wavy and cut low, he was also in very good shape for a man that looked to be about fifty years old. It was clear to her that this was Nylan’s father.


*Flashback*

“Gladys…it will be just me, you, and the baby” he stroked her face gently as he spoke to her. He knew the baby was the key to her heart because she would never be able to bear a child of her own.

“And you promise you will leave your wife” Gladys asked.

“Yes…I love you” he lied, “and remember Kit can’t know about this okay…she’ll just become jealous and try to ruin our family”. Gladys nodded. She would go along with the plan of adopting Kit’s baby, she would quit her job as back up singer for Kit and then they would live happily ever after, but it would be no happy ending. Gladys would spend the next few years raising Nylan but growing impatient with HIS slow progression towards divorce and the money that was promised would soon support the drug habit of her abusive husband.

*End of Flashback*


“Keith” Kit questioned with a mix of suprise and anger in her voice. He half smiled back at her unsure of what to say or do next.

“What do you want” Bette took the words out of Kit’s mouth. Keith blinked as he withdrew his hand from Kit’s arm, he studied the floor unable to say what he was feeling.

“I wanted to be here for Nylan” he blurted out. Bette sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes. The conversation caught Shane and Kayla’s attention. Kayla knew the man he had been introduced to her many times as ‘Mr Conyers’ the CEO of the record label Nylan was signed to.

“The child that you never wanted in the first place” Kit said between her sobs. She threw her hands up unsure as to why he would have a change of heart after all these years. Kit looked past him to see Alice and Tina walking swiftly towards them.

“She’s awake” Alice yelled looking around searching for Dana to give her the good news, “Where’s Dana?”.

Dana and Lara hugged each other tightly both letting their tears fall to the others shoulders. Both of them had been upset at seeing Nylan in the state she was in and decided to walk outside for some fresh air.

“It’s going to be okay” Lara whispered and Dana pulled back staring at Lara for a second before gently moving in to taste her lips.

“Da…” Alice stopped mid sentence as she watched her girlfriend jump out of Lara’s embrace, her face red with embarrassment.

“Al…it’s not what you think” Alice didn’t stick around to hear Dana’s explanation, she marched back into the hospital, tears streaming down her face.

“You know you gave us quite a scare” Shane reached down and grabbed Nylan’s hand squeezing it tightly. She felt tears about to fall because she was so happy. Kayla enjoyed seeing the two back together as it was always meant to be.

“Shane I…” Nylan struggled to speak.

“No…its okay all is forgotten…I don’t care I want to be here for you and Isiah” a single tear dropped from Nylan’s eye. Finally Shane had meant Isiah, the only boy she ever loved. Shane stepped aside to let Kayla talk with Nylan, she smiled back at Kayla and everything she’d just found out about her and Tina disappeared. Kayla loved Nylan and she would take her back a million times if ever possible.

“Can I see her Kit please…I know I made some huge mistakes before but please I want make up for the times I wasn’t there for Nylan” Kit shook her head and walked away leaving Bette to deal with Keith. His eyes pleaded with Bette.

“I…okay”

Dana touched Alice’s shoulder gently, Alice shrugged shaking free of Dana’s hand. She turned around to face Dana, her eyes red from her tears.

“Al I’m sorry…nothing happened I…” Alice’s slap silenced Dana’s rambling. Dana held her face as she rubbed the side that held a handprint, “I love you Al” she yelled but Alice wasn’t listening. She had walked away leaving Dana to her own thoughts ‘Why did I kiss her’.

Kit and Keith walked into Nylan’s room together, Kit was prepared to tell Nylan the whole truth. Nylan grinned at the sight of Kit but she questioned Keith’s motives ‘The record company probably sent him’ she thought.

“Hey pumpkin how you doin” Nylan smiled and nodded at Kit, she took the seat beside Nylan bed, “look there’s something I need to tell you and it will come to you as a shock but…” Keith looked at her confused as to what she was doing.

“I’m your real mother and this…is your father” Nylan glanced back and forth between Kit and Keith, who was giving her a strange look.

“I know” Nylan said softly.

“Okay have we made a decision yet” Dr. Reynolds asked as he looked between the circle of friends once again.

“Yes I’m going to do it” they all stared back at her, this was a big step she was taking.
