6 Months- chapter 34
With the decision made that Tina would be staying on in NY indefinitely, there seemed to be a clearing in the air. It had been one of the seemingly many unknowns that had lingered between them.
They were still sitting on the sofa when Bette said, How about another glass of wine?
Sounds wonderful said Tina.
She watched Bette walk into the kitchen and could not believe that she had actually had the nerve to air what she had been thinking since before she left LA, in terms of wanting to stay in New York with her. She had decided before she had even boarded the plane, that if she were to actually find Bette, that she would not leave until there was some kind of final resolution to their relationship. She knew that she would have to go back to LA in order to wrap some things up, but was still amazed not only at the fact that she had vocalized her wishes, but that Bette had been so agreeable to her staying.
Perhaps amazed at Bette being agreeable was not the right definition she thought. Actually, she did not have all of that much of a preconceived notion as to how she would respond at all. As it was, she was totally off as to how she thought that Bette would react to her when she got here, immediately wanting Tina back in order to rebuild their shattered world. It was just as well that she had not thought through the whole move to NY thing, cause she may have been totally wrong about that as well.
Just then, Bette walked back into the living room with the 2 glasses of wine in one hand, and a plate of cheese and crackers in the other.
Wasnt sure if you were hungry or not smiled Bette, but just thought that I would throw a little something together.
Actually, I am really hungry. I think that my appetite is coming back after having gone in to hiding the last couple of days.
Well said Bette. As you may remember your options from earlier, we can go out, order in or pop in downstairs to the restaurant on the hotel side. Your decision.
Actually, I am really craving some Thai. Any good delivery places in the neighborhood? smiled Tina.
Are you kidding me? asked Bette. There are a dozen good Thai places in just a one block radius of here. Let me grab a couple of menus for you to choose from.
She walked back into the kitchen and as she came back into the living room, saw Tina resting her head on the back of the sofa.
Tired? asked Bette.
A little I guess. she replied. Kinda silly though as my body should still be on West Coast time.
Yeah but, it has admittedly been an intense what, 36 hours for you? asked Bette.
I guess, but dont even think about my being too tired to eat cause that certainly isnt the case chuckled Tina.
They went through the menus, chose a restaurant based on their offerings and Bette then placed the call.
After she hung up, she noticed the little frown lines appear on Tinas forehead that meant that she was thinking about something.
Whats up T? asked Bette, as she lightly touched her finger to Tinas forehead, smoothing out the lines of concern.
Well she began, looking at Bette. There was something else that I have been thinking about that I wanted to run by you to get an opinion.
Ok, Im all ears. said Bette, who had lowered her hand from Tinas forehead, placing it on the back of the sofa behind Tinas head.
While I was flying here, I obviously had a lot of time to think about things and what would happen if I found you, and then if I did find you, if you would want me to stay, and then, what I would do in terms of work, were I to stay NY? she rehashed.
Bette just kept looking at her, not saying anything, just letting her say what was on her mind.
And the more that I thought about it, the more it made sense to me.
What made sense to you T?
Alphaville has an office here in Manhattan and you remember Chris Moore, right?
Bette had absolutely no idea who Chris Moore was, but just nodded as if she did.
You have no idea who he is do you? asked Tina with a slight smile.
When Bette didnt say anything, she continued with a nod that said, uh huh, I knew you had no idea.
Anyway Tina continued. As just a reminder, Chris Moore is the guy that stole me from Paramount and brought me to Alphaville in LA, looking at Bette to see if this registered any recognition.
To Bettes relief, the name did ring a bell and she said, Oh yeah, the guy with the ponytail, right? sounding quite proud of herself for pulling that one out of the hat.
Yes Bette, that is who I am talking about said Tina in a slightly condescending manner.
The point of telling you all of this is because he called me a couple of months ago and asked if I would have any interest in coming back to do some free lance work for him at Alphaville. Of course, at the time I did not have any interest in doing so, but now she said, allowing her voice to trail off.
So, you would do some free lance work here in NY for Alphaville, is that what I am getting here? asked Bette.
That is exactly what I am talking about. I mean, you are going to be very busy with the gallery and I dont think that sitting around all day doing nothing, would be all that healthy. Do you? she smiled at Bette.
No, Id imagine not. T, I think that it is a great idea! I would totally support you in an endeavor like that.
Tina, very pleased with Bettes response simply said, I was hoping that that was what you would say.
And Tina, I want you to know something else. When I told you that I have been at the gallery from before sun up and until after sun down, that was a slight exaggeration. I mean, I meant what I said about only seeing James and the construction men, but what I wanted to let you know is that I have been trying to put a little more structure around my workday. I usually get to the gallery by 8ish, depending on what is going on, and then try and leave not too, too late. Now with you here, it will only help reinforce that I would like to be out of there by 6:30 or so at the latest as I now have something to come home to.
Tina just looked at Bette, with a tear forming in her eye, not believing what she was hearing. Her Bette was trying to put structure around her work day? She never thought that she would live to hear those words.
Baby, there is nothing that would make me happier than to know that you are able to pull yourself away from work, just to come home to me.
I told you that I had changed T, and I meant it.
I see that, in a number of different ways. said Tina.
They each had a sip of wine, a bite of cheese and continued to look at each other. Strangely, neither ever knew what to expect in terms of what was awaiting them around the next corner, but neither was disappointed as of yet.
