If it is meant to be…Chapter 23

Tina jumped up off the couch, running over to the closed bedroom door. She tried to turn the door *****, but it was locked. “Bette…please…Baby, let me in. Please…what you are feeling is totally understandable. You loved Nica so much…it’s Ok to have those feelings.” Tina stood at the door with her cheek and hand resting against the cool wood. “Baby…please let me help you.” What Tina didn’t say, was that there was a part of her that had also felt relief that Bette was now available to be with her again. And that after hearing Bette talk about Nica and the love they shared, that she too felt guilt, because she knew that if Nica were still alive, this second chance wouldn’t have been possible.

Bette wanted to feel Tina’s arms around her…comforting her, but even having that thought made her feel more guilty. Shouldn’t she be wishing that Nica were here to hold her instead? God, she was so confused. Now, on top of it all, she was sure she had also hurt Tina’s feelings. This had been exactly what she was afraid of. It’s why she struggled to find the right time to talk about it. But tonight had been so wonderful, the two of them…together again. She thought she could do it with Tina right next to her. She slowly walked over to the bedroom door and leaned her forehead against it. Knowing Tina was just on the other side, she softly said, “I’m sorry Tina…I can’t right now.”

Tina could feel her own tears flowing, her own guilt moving it’s way up through her body. She didn’t want to push Bette, but she didn’t want to leave her like this either. Tina realized that in the end, she and Bette were going to have to work through this guilt together. “Ok Baby…get some rest. I’ll talk to you in the morning.” Tina walked over, not to the door to the suite, but to the second bedroom, and walked in closing the door behind her. She wasn’t leaving Bette this time. She wasn’t walking away from her like she had fifteen years earlier. This time, she would give Bette the space she asked for, but would still be close enough for Bette to reach out to if she wanted.

Bette heard the door to the bedroom closing, thinking it was the door to the suite. Her tears started flowing harder, knowing she had just pushed away the one person she wanted right next to her. She reached up and laid her hand against the door and whispered, “Good night Tina…I love you.” She trudged over to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She wanted to soak in a hot bath, but was tired of thinking…of feeling, so decided the sweet escape of sleep would be better. Maybe she would find peace in her dreams…or maybe she was just going to have to work this out on her own.

Both women fell asleep alone…both wishing the other was next to them.

Bette woke up the next morning, thinking about the beautiful dance she and Tina had shared the night before. Thinking about how wonderful it had felt having Tina in her arms again. She smiled, pushing her face into the pillow…then she remembered how the night had ended, and just as quickly as the smile had appeared…it disappeared and was replaced by tears. She had to work through this. She had to…she couldn’t lose Tina again. Not after all this time. Not after the fates had brought them together again.

Bette reached over and called room service to bring up some tea and breakfast. She wanted to call Tina, but thought she should wait til a little later…let her sleep in. She needed to reconnect with her. Let her know she wanted her help, she just wasn’t sure how to accept it. She put on her robe and walked out into the livingroom area of the suite. She immediately noticed that the door to the second bedroom was closed. Wondering why, as she knew it had been opened the whole time she had been here, she walked over and quietly turned the *****, slowly opening the door. Bette covered her mouth with her hand, once again feeling her eyes fill with tears. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It was like she had been transported back in time, to their little house they had both loved so much. And like she had done a hundred times before, Bette watched her beautiful Tina as she slept, just like she always had…on her stomach, one arm reaching out for the touch of someone beside her…who was no longer there.

Bette couldn’t believe it. ‘She stayed here! She didn’t leave me! Maybe I didn’t push her away after all.’ Bette prayed with all her might that that was the truth. As she lovingly watched Tina, she couldn’t help herself. She knew what she was doing was wrong…knew that she would only be able to go so far…but she couldn’t help it. Leaving her robe on, she slowly slipped in between the soft sheets, laying on her back, knowing her body would come in contact with Tina’s arm. Sure enough, Tina felt the body next to her in her sleep and turned towards it, grabbing on and snuggling close, wrapping her arm around Bette’s stomach, nestling her head next to Bette’s. She didn’t wake up…but as Bette lay there smiling through her tears, reveling in the feel of having Tina so close to her, she heard a soft moan escape from Tina’s lips…”Hmm Bette…”

    1. I love this story seeing Bette come to terms with the loss of her past and how to move on with Tina as a part of her future is so tender and real. Please continue this story

    2. Tears are actually streaming down my face…unbelievable Sea…so damn amazing what you’re doing with this story…beautiful…hope you have time to write more soon…10!!!

    3. Aww Sea, this was soo beautiful!! Thanks for having Tina stay over. I hope this makes Bette realize that Tina’s in it for the long haul and they’ll get through this, together.

    4. Sweet. I’m glad Tina stayed and Bette understands why. Only one thing that I keep thinking about, and I’m sure it’s significant (will it help in their guilt?), what’s in Tina’s locket, the one from Shane? Can’t wait till the next one. Great story!

    5. Love takes off masks that we cannot live without, and know that we cannot live within. There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer. Bette and Tina will forge thru this difficult and painful subject. So Bette has realized that to love anything is to realize that it might be lost. Excellent chapter. Will be looking forward to the next one.

    6. Wow just fantastic, I just can’t get enough of this story. It just touches a chord in all of us, and that is we should never take our precious moments for granted. For we may never know what fate has in store for us. I will catch the next one when it comes, I hope soon. Thanks so much.

    7. Ah, I love this. Tina automatically cuddling Bette in bed after 15 years so natural, so telling of her heart’s truth. I love these two, fifteen years later, more mature, more open to each other, realizing they squandered their time apart. It’s just wonderful. We want to believe in this story and hope that there is a one true love for all of us out there and that if its true we will be blessed with a second chance. That’s what you give us Seahurst, that dream, and its wonderful. Bette’s guilt is a reality that is rarely spoken, put down on paper so vividly, we can feel every gut wrenching emotion. By Bette exposing herself in this way, Tina will only love her more for it. Looking forward to their journey.

    8. This story has made me both laugh and cry. You are doing an amazing job with this story. The emotions involved in their connection/reconnection with a love lost and then found again is very powerful. Please continue…
