    what if…(LXXIII)

Bette drove home smiling, dying to see Tina and the babies. She was still wondering about the letter, what could have Tina tought. She wanted to ask her about her walk with Shane, wanted to hold her, to tell her so many things. But not hearing from Tina, not having any messages in her cell worried Bette. What if she was wrong, what if all her thoughts were a lie. What if?…
Shaking her head Bette decided to find out, hating the doubts, hating wondering.

The light turned red. Bette stopped the car and leaning she tried to find the cell in her purse. It wasnt there. Then she remembered it was in her jackets pocket. She patted it, finding it. The light turned green. Bette drove a few blocks before being able to dial Tinas cell.

She waited and waited a few seconds before hearing,

Bette? Tinas voice sweet as always.

Tee answered Bette, happy to hear her voice.

How was the meeting? Tina asked, her voice not as sweet as before.

It went well, am on my way home, you need anything? Bette asked, suddenly not knowing how to talk with Tina.

No, we are fine said Tina.

We are? Asked Bette, a few long seconds later.

Bette heard Tina sighing which didnt calmed her. She waited a few more seconds before adding,

Tee? Bettes voice fragile, almost childish.

Yes we are Bug answered Tina, hating herself for letting the hormones play with them

Good, I guess you read my letter said Bette, stopping the car again, the light turning red.

Letter, what letter? Asked Tina, looking around.

Oh..nothing, is nothing, is ok, will tell you later.

Ok said Tina, walking to the fridge, reading the errands note.

Ok said Bette, looking through the window, noticing the little boy holding his mothers hand while crossing the street.

Hearing Tina talking Bette shook her head, saying.

Sorry Tee, what did you said?

Could you buy some eggs and we might need more diapers said Tina, smiling, happy to know that Bette was going to be home soon.

Sure btw Tee..I invited Helen and Tina for dinner tonight nonchalantly said Bette, turning the alarm in Tinas insides.

What?, why? Why didnt you asked me first? yelled Tina, unaware of how her voice was becoming louder.

Tee, you dont have to cook, I will pick something up..II just thought it could be nice they dont know so many people here

Fine, fine whatever…see you in a bit Bette finished Tina, hanging up.

Ok, love you said Bette hanging up, confused by Tinas mood changes.

Then, seeing the light turning green, Bette heard a horn.

    ***

Tina shook her head, angrily looking at her cell.

How could she? Why did she? she asked herself.
Pacing the kitchen up and down she heard one of the babies crying. Walking to their bedroom Tina shook her head one more time, trying to erase her madness. Why? Why was she so mad at Bette? She didnt do anything? She just invited Helen and Tina for dinner. Stopping at the cribs she noticed it was Jules the one crying. The quiet and always calm Jules. Picking him up Tina shook her head again. Dinner, it couldnt be that bad. Shane was right, she had to do it. Face Helen, face Tina.

Cradling Jules Tina smiled. Bette, poor Bette, she must be still astonish by her rudeness, by all her mood changes. With a mischevious smile Tina nodded, thinking about how shed make up for Bette, for all the times she didnt say a word about her mood, her icy words and her silences. The smile on Tinas face was growing with each new idea she was having about the make up session she was thinking about.

Jules was still awake, looking at her, calmed being in her mothers arms.

You know, your mom is nuts, you are one lucky fellow your other mom is completely saneyes you are, yes you are Tina said, making faces to the boy, smiling at him.

Kissing him, noticing how his eyes were getting close she placed it back in her crib. After checking on Jamie, Tina walked to the bathroom. It was time, time to go back to being a woman. She was going to take a long bath, wash her hair, even do her manicure. She wanted to look great for Bette.

The bubbles were vanishing, the water was getting cold. Tina was falling asleep when she heard a light knock on the door.

Yeah? She said, rising an eyebrow.

Tee said Shane, opening the door, walking in.

Im sorrythere is call for you she said, handing the phone to Tina.

    Taking the phone, Tina answered,

Yes? She said, unable to stop looking at Shane, noticing the worried look in her yes.

Miss Tina Kennard? asked a deep voice, freezing Tinas blood.

    1. Don’t tell me Bette’s in a car accident..Tina’s going to have her hands full of that’s what it is, watch out, here comes the raging hormone! LOL. Looking forward to the next chapter.

    2. OMG…Please don’t let this be what I think it is going to be. We have already had on ending where Tina is visiting Bette’s grave, don’t think I can take another sad ending. What if that “deep voice” was that of the tow truck driver letting Tina know that he was calling because Ms. Porter’s cell had gone dead, her car had a flat, and she was going to be late getting home. It would be great to see them growing old together, enjoying their twilight years, surrounded by all their grandchildren and still sexy in love. I used to believe, when I was young, that you should live fast, love hard, die young and have a goodlooking corpse. Now that I am old, I look back and see how foolish that was. I only wish that I live long enough to see a society w/a senior population of committed lesbian couples enjoying the same rights and pleasures as str8’s. Just my thoughts. Thank you for sharing your outstanding writing talent.

    3. Beluga how do you manage to write so much, so fast. You got a talent girl, and I’m trusting you not to kill Bette off and have Tina and Bette making with the smoochies
