    Hungry heart part 3

Bette sat at her desk, she had been their for two hours now and had accomplished nothing, she knew why, all she could think of was Tina. All right, enough is enough; I have to do something here. Bette stood up, grabbed her things and walked out the door.
James, cover for me, yeah? Bette said mid stride.
Yeah, sure. James replied not considering arguing.
Bette got into her car; she habitually put the key in the ignition and turned the engine over. She drove out of the car park and headed in the direction of Alices apartment. Bette could remember the words of her father Bette dont try to fix what is not broken She knew that she had to fix this, this was broken.

Bette pulled her car into the curb and walked up the stairs to the front door. She knocked on the door and was met by Alice.

Bette, hey come in, how are you? Alice said in a worried tone.
Hey Al, Im pretty lost right now, wheres Tina? Bette said anxiously
Bette, shes at work Alice said puzzled.
At the center? Bette asked sounding desperate.
Yeah why Asked Alice. Bette began toward the door with out answering Alices question.
Bette, what do you want with Tina? Alice asked as Bette headed down her front stairs
To fix what is broken, Bette said looking over her shoulder to look at Alice. Alice simply nodded that she understood and watched Bette drive away.

    =============================================

Bette, what are you doing here? Asked Tina already knowing the answer to her question.
T, this is to important to do with flowers or a letter or over the phone. Bette was nervous.
Ok, Bette what do you want to say? Tina asked in non-inviting tone.
Tina, I dont want to do this here, when is good for you, I want to talk about this properly, I want to do this right Bette explained apprehensively.
Ok, I will come over later tonight Said Tina

    =============================================

    Later that night
Tina got out of her car and walked towards the front door. This situation seemed so normal, so natural to her. She walked up the font steps and stood in front of the door, deciding weather or not to knock. Bette had heard Tinas car pull into the drive. Bette opened the door to find Tina on the other side staring at her feet.
    Hey
    Hey
Are you going to come in?
Yeah, I was just trying to decide if I should knock first, thats all
Oh, well have a seat, do you want any thing to drink?
No I would prefer to have clear head right now. Tina said creating a nervous silence.
Fair enough, where do you want to start?
Bette I want to know when you and I started to lose each other, I mean, I know that this whole thing isnt completely your fault, you and I have been having problems for a while and I want to know when you first noticed it? Tinas tone certainly wasnt inviting, but it wasnt completely forgiving either. Bette sat for a moment and tried to collect her thoughts, she knew that she had to answer this question with a real answer and she wanted to make sure she didnt balls it up.
Ok, um I suppose before we wanted the baby things were not what they used to be, I dont know exactly when it was but I think it started because I was working so much
Why didnt we try and fix things then? Tina asked with tears in her eyes.
    I dont know t, really I dont
Bette, look ultimately I do want to fix this, it was so good not ALL that long ago. It, you mean a lot to me but first we need to find ourselves and each other. I dont know if I can trust you right now but I know in time I will be able to again, how long that is going to take is the only question here . There it was thought Bette, that word, in the context she never thought she would hear it. Trust and dont in the same sentence said to her, by Tina
Tina, why are you being so nice about this? I thought you were going to sit here and yell at me and then tell me where to stick it
Bette, seven years you took a chance on me, now its my turn to do the same.
Tina I never meant to hurt you
Bette, you know that you ripped out my heart, set it on fire and then put it out with a chain. But I know that you wouldnt have done that unless there was a reason.
Bette didnt say any thing; she simply sat and looked at Tina as she spoke, listening to her words.
Nice metaphor Bette said sighing and breaking eye contact.
Hmm, oh the whole setting on fire and putting out with a chain, sorry, I am just in one of those linguistic moods. Look I have to work in the morning, and so do you
Yeah, your right Bette said looking down to the ground.
Look, I will call you in a few days, until then, I want you to make sure this is what you want. And with that, she was gone. Tina walked out of the house, got in her car and went back to Alices. Leaving Bette to contemplate her question, is the really what she wanted. Yes and no. No she didnt want things to go back to what they were, she didnt want to continue their own dirty little war, but did she want her old life back, the one where she knew who she was and where she was going, the one where she loved her wife and could tell her anything, not just fight with her? Yes. She wanted to go back to their own little bit of nirvana.
