S.C.N.R. PART 2: A Rough Night
Dana was at a complete loss for words. She still wasnt sure whether she was more excited about the kiss between herself and Alice, or concerned with the fact that Tonya had just witnessed it. Slowly Tonya turned to her. Her eyes came to focus on Dana, and she felt her rage for Alice transforming into anger and hurt at Dana for betraying her.
“Tonya, I, Im sorry, that was, I dont know exactly what that was but I…” Dana stammered while looking down nervously and moving towards Tonya. She looked up and was caught off guard by the flash of anger she saw reflected in Tonyas eyes.
“***** you Dana ***** you.” Tonyas voice was low and her tone was bitter. She shoved past Dana and walked across the room towards the dresser. “I cant believe you ***** you ***** kissed her, what the ***** Dana?”
The words, and their truth, hit Dana hard, and tears welled quickly in her eyes at Tonyas hurt and anger. “Tonyawait, let me explaindont leave,” but Tonya was already pulling a pair of sweats over her boxers and a t- shirt over her tank top. Dana stood and watched, her feelings completely torn. Tonya was already out the bedroom door when Dana was finally able to move her legs to follow. She stumbled down the stairs to see Tonya grab her purse and head for the front door. Dana rushed down and placed herself in front of the other woman, blocking her exit.
“Move Dana.” She growled.
“No.” Dana attempted unsuccessfully to mask her shaky voice with feigned stubbornness.
“Move!” Tonya shouted, slamming her fist against the doorframe, causing Dana to flinch.
“No, youre staying, we need to talk” Dana tried to reason. “Were engaged, remember?” Her voice now clearly reflecting her desperation.
“Were engaged. Were ***** over Dana. You obviously have other priorities.” Tonya snapped. “If you never loved me fine, maybe I never loved you either! Maybe I just wanted to sleep with a famous tennis player. Are you happy now?” As she said these last words, Tonya moved her face in so that it was only a few inches from Danas. “Good luck with your career Dana, if thats even what you want to call it.” Tonya shoved roughly past Dana and out the door, causing Dana to stumble and fall backwards.
Tonya stomped to her car, threw her purse in and screeched away down the street without another word or glance back. Dana was left sitting on the porch after having tripped, watching as the car taillights slowly faded into the distance. If Tonyas earlier comments had stung, she now felt as if she had been pummeled to the ground with a baseball bat. The multitude of emotions that had been lurking in the back of her mind now began to overflow, and her body racked with sobs and she huddled against the door, hugging her knees tightly to her chest.
Several hours later, Dana rolled onto her side, trying to avoid the sunlight that had begun to infiltrate her bedroom. She blinked tentatively, and it didnt take her long to feel the puffiness around her eyes. Her head pounded as if she had spent the previous night guzzling tequila, and her mind raced to place the events that had transpired. Looking across her empty bed, memories of the previous night flooded back over her like a tidal wave. She remembered dragging herself off the porch and up to her room, collapsing on the bed and crying herself to sleep. Now awake, the emotions she had felt crept back into her consciousness. Guilt for betraying Tonya, confusion with Alices revelation, and the revelation of her own desire for Alice, which had up until this point been unknown even to her.
Tonya was gone, she knew that much. Since Dana had brought Tonya back with her from the Dinah Shore weekend, everyone had told her that she could do better, That Tonya was using her. While it may have been true, she did have feelings for the woman. Losing her was definitely like a knife through her heart. After all, they had been engaged. Before she could begin crying again, Dana sat and stood up, which required all off her strength. She headed to the shower, hoping it might refresh her mind and her body. She had to get out of this house, away from the events of the previous night. She decided she would get dressed, and go try and find someone to talk to.
Out of the shower, and feeling somewhat better, Dana threw on a pair of cotton pants and a white tank top. She knew exactly where she should go. After all, who better to help her with her relationship drama than the queens of couple-dom, Bette and Tina?
