    Hungry Heart Part 11

Tina returned to her office and sat back down in her chair, she knew that she could have told Oscar to stick her help but didnt have the concentration to even comprehend what was happening at the time. As her body began to relax again the song that Bette had sent her was beginning to yet again ring in her ears like a the bells of Big Ben. She sat forwards and tried to concentrate on her work for a little while. An hour later her phone rang and revealed Alice on the caller ID.
Hey AL, its not lunch time yet, whats up? Tina said in a cheerful tone.
Nothing, I was just calling to cancel lunch actually, Alice said apologetically.
    Oh, hey thats cool
Yeah, Dana and I are going to do some stuff Alice said smiling into the phone.
Alright enough said, but I take it thing s are going well for the two of you then?
Yeah, look I will tell you all about it later yeah?
    Yeah, later Al
    See ya T

Tina hung up the phone and was at a loss for what to do, normally she would pick up the phone and call Bette to see how her day was going and just to hear her soothing voice after one ***** of a morning, but she couldnt, she didnt know what was stopping her but their was something holding her back. She sat back in her chair and looked out the window. Her mind went back to the words of the song and she decided to stop tormenting her self and threw in the towel. Tina got up from her chair and grabbed her bag and her keys, walked out of her office and called it a day, it was 14:45.
Oscar look I sorry but I have an appointment I have to keep, Ill see you tomorrow ok Tina said as she headed to the exit in a hurry.
Yeah thats , fine, thanks for your help today
    Yeah, sure
Tina walked down the stairs to her car and drove out of the complex, she took the first left and thats all that her brain remembered. Fifteen minutes later Tina drove into the drive way, pulled the park break on and got out of her car. As she walked up the front lawn, her brain registered where she in fact was. Tina stopped dead in her tracts, looked up at the house, back at her car in the drive way, then at the Saab also parked in front, at her feet on the grass, back at her car and then finally back up at the house in front of her. Finally the mouse got back on the wheel and resumed running, and she realized that she was standing in front of the place she called home, and that for some reason Bette was at home.

Bette on the other hand stood inside at the window and watched this all unfold, she had heard the car pull into the driveway and decided to see what the story was. When Bette saw Tina I her confused state she became concerned, as it was obvious that Tina was asking her self how she had gotten here. Bette walked to the front door and opened it catching Tinas attention immediately.
    Tina?
    Huh? Oh, Bette um hey
Hey TLook I dont mean to be rude but what are you doing here?
Um, thats the thing I dont actually know, I know this sounds like I am on drugs but, I really dont know
I think you had better come inside T
    Yeah
Tina slowly followed Bette into the house and sat down on the couch completely confused as to her location.
Ill go and get you some water, Bette said in a concerned tone.
Yeah thanks, Bette left the room as confused as Tina.
Tina sat in the living room while Bette was gone, not moving from the couch, her view narrowed to the picture of the two of them a few years ago, just taken on some random day, that sat on the mantle back in the day she thought to her self. Tina continued to look around the room and quickly noticed that it was a lot cleaner that she had expected it to be. Bette reappeared with two glasses of water and handed one to Tina and sat down on the other side of the room.
    Are you ok T?
Yeah, I just dont remember driving here, look I am really sorry for just showing up
No, Tina, look this is still your house, I have no right to tell you when you can come here
Yeah I know still though Silence hit the room out of nowhere and was as comfortable as heels with a broken toe. (Trust me it hurts). Tina stared at the wall and didnt say a word, her view shifted and she looked nervous for a second, her thoughts raced through her head as the mouse had gotten on the wheel and was doing a mad sprint for the line.
Bette can I ask you something?
    Yeah?
That night, why didnt you come after me? Tina asked nervously knowing that this was where the ***** flys off the fan and she had to either try and not get hit, or this was where her and Bette caught sight of one another and began to move in a positive direction. I mean when I left you didnt even look up, and then it took you three weeks to try and make contact
Bette broke Tinas eye contact and looked at her feet, she knew that this question and this conversation would come eventually but this had caught her completely off guard, she sighed deeply to her self and then
looked back at Tina who now had an expectant look on her face.
I knew this would come eventually ok Tina when you looked me in the eye that night and I saw the pain in your eyes I noticed it immediately and I never considered lying to you, and then I tried to apologize for it you hit me you hit me so hard that it stung for days after. I knew then that it was entirely my fault, that it was my fault that you were I so much pain the thing that rang in my head was sometimes to keep it together you have to leave it alone I guess I just wanted to give you time to I dont know I just guess that you needed time so I gave it to you. Bette eyes were filling with tears that were threatening to fall.
When did you decide you needed to do something, that it was time to make contact?
I got up a few weeks ago and decided that I had had enough, I was like a drummer that couldnt keep a beat, I hadnt spoken to you for three weeks and then only contact was secondary through Alice, I had just had enough, and I knew that I had to do it face to face, flowers just wouldnt cut it Bette said crying.
Bette why didnt you say anything before I left Tina said in a whisper as a single tear ran down her cheek.
Tina when I walked out of that room, out of our room, I fell into this deep cycle of self hatred, I couldnt say anything really, I could barely walk, I didnt know what to say, I thought you would probably hit me again, if I tried, so I sat at that table for so long, I just kept thinking about the way you had looked at me in utter disgust, I hated my self so much for that, I just sat their for like ten hours, I couldnt get up because I knew what ever I did would be stupid, Id take it out on my self, or I would try and find you and ***** the whole thing up and just make the whole thing a lot worse Bette said as her tears became more frequent. Tina rose from her place on the couch and made her way slowly over to Bettes side, she offered her hand to Bette who took it gently and rose from her chair. Tina wrapped her arms around Bettes neck and held on for dear life, Bettes arms held tightly onto Tina around her waist. After almost a month apart this was like finding water in the desert.
