It was 3 days after the fire in which Tina Kennard had come to her rescue. Bette had cleared up the mess relating to the incident. Over the weekend, she had spoken to the insurance company and teed up for her kitchen to be remodeled by one of the best interior designers in town, Shane Mc Cutcheon.

Alice, one of Bettes closest friends, had done a story on Shane in the magazine she worked for, and they had become friends.

Alice had arranged for Bette to speak to Shane but it was up to her to convince Shane to take the job. Bette didnt find this too difficult; she was very persuasive when she wanted to be.

Bette was very proud of herself for convincing Shane to take the job and re model her kitchen, as Shane usually reserved her work for only the rich and the famous.
Bette hadnt met her yet but Shanes reputations preceded her. Shane apparntly didnt look much like an interior designer but she had the best eye in L.A., in more ways than one.

The remodel was going to take about 2 weeks and Bette was staying at Kits till then.

It was Monday morning and Bette was walking into her gallery recalling the events of the previous weekend.

Bette had tried to keep herself busy over the weekend, and sorting out the mess she created on the Friday night kept her pretty busy. This didnt distract her enough though as she tried to get Tina out of her head. Bette was itching for Monday to arrive so she could go ahead with her plan.

The only time over the weekend she was even remotely relaxed was when she was telling Alice about the fire. Once Alice knew Bette was O.K. she was in hysterics after Bettes submission that it was her attempt at cooking that started the fire.
What else did I expect from Alice Bette thought.
Bette smiled at the memory of telling Alice. Alice always had a way with words which always made Bette feel better, although she wouldnt dream of telling Alice about Tina, not yet anyway.

She knew she couldnt do anything about her plans for Tina until today and didnt want her expectations to be too high, what if Tina isnt interested Bette thought. No I can get her interested if I can get just one chance!

Bette went and sat down at her desk. Now lets put this plan into action Bette said to herself.

First things first, she pulled out 4 invitations to Friday nights show.

Bette James can you come in her for a minute.

James was Bettes assistant. He had been working for Bette for 2 years and Bette trusted him immensely.

James: Yes Bette what can I do for you?
Bette handed James the four invitations.

Bette: James, I want you to do me a favor. Can you take these 4 invitations over to the fire station in West Hollywood. I want them personally delivered James, Do you understand.

James: Sure no problem Bette, Ill go right away.

Bette: Thanks James.

And with that Bette felt pretty pleased with herself, pretty confident she would be hearing from Tina soon, after all who turns down an invite to an exclusive show at one of the best galleries in L.A.?

Bette decided she better get some work done for the remainder of the day so she pushed the anticipation to the back of her mind and got on with preparations for Friday night.



It was 10pm and Tina had just rolled into work ready to commence her shift. As she open her locker to change into her uniform Tina noticed an envelope fall to the floor.

Tina picked up the envelope and read her name on the front in perfect penmanship. Tina thought to her self whats this, who could this possibly be from.

Tina opened the envelope and read the invitation. As she read her face began to turn a light shade of red. It was an invitation to a gallery showing at the Bette Porter gallery.
Wow Tina thought, thats where I knew her name from she owns her own gallery.

Tinas thoughts again begin to drift back to Bette, the woman she dreamed about after only just meeting her. Tina was lost in her thoughts, her face turning redder by the minute, when her work colleague Richard approached her from behind and startled her.

Richard: So what do you reckon Chief, You up for a bit of culture on Friday night? Im sure Eric would love to go, my wife was so excited when I told her we were going to the Bette Porter gallery, Did you know that was Bette Porters apartment we attended last Friday..
Richard kept going on and on, Tina just wanted to tell him to shut up.

Tina: Alright Richard you can come up for a breath you know

Richard was insistent, So Chief are you going on Friday night or not?

Tina was thinking to her self why not, what have I got to lose. Sure Rick, Ill have to ask Eric but Im sure ***** be up for it.

Tina had been dating Eric for about 6 months. He was an entertainment lawyer and they hooked up through a mutual friend. They were not really that serious, its not like they rocked each others worlds Tina had always thought but they had fun together and they both knew where they stood in their relationship.

Part of Tina wanted to go alone, but after she thought about it, she knew it was probably best to take Eric along.

For some reason she was not sure if she could trust herself around one Ms Bette Porter.
Besides Tina thought I could find out more about Bette and this connection we seemed to have without an expectations, if Eric accompanied me. Then Ill know for sure if it was the adrenalin of the situation or if something is really there

Tina called Eric on his cell and as expected he was thrilled to go.
Tina filled out the R.S.V.P. on the invitation and took it to Richard.

Tina: Would you mind submitting this with yours seeing as you are also attending, Tina asked with a smile on her face.

Richard: No worries Chief, well all have a blast youll see.

Tina then changed into her uniform and no sooner had she done so when the siren went off at the station, Here we go thought Tina, grabbing her coat and hat .

Well Friday night, We certainly will see Tina whispered to herself.
