With a little help from my friends-chapter 14
Tina sat quietly on Bette’s front porch waiting for her to come home. “It’s 11:30 where could you possibly be” she thaught. She leaned back on the step looking into the night sky. Tina couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by thaught. “What am I doing here. Im sure there are a bunch of places I could stay.” She couldn’t help but think about Bette. Tina was finally remembering the best parts of their relationship. She had forgotten Bette’s touch, her scent and worst of all the sound of her laughter. Tina was so involved in her thaughts she didn’t notice Bette pull into the driveway. She didn’t even notice a surprised Bette standing in front of her.
Bette: “Tina…what are you doing here? Its late.” she asked still with a puzzled look on her face.
Tina: “What? Oh, silly me I didn’t even notice you pull up.”
Bette: “I see that. Whats going on T?” she asked taking a step.
Tina’s heart skipped a beat. She still loved when Bette called her T. Tina didn’t say anything, she just sat there admiring the sight of Bette. Even in her workout clothes she looked stunning.
Bette: “Tina? Why don’t you come inside.”
Tina noded and let Bette help her off the step. They walked in the door and Tina headed strait to couch. Bette put down her things and joined Tina.
Bette: “ok, now. Whats going on?” she asked again
Tina: “Alright” she took a deep breath “I will understand of you feel uncomfortable with this, it’s ok to say no. I was wondering if I could move back in here….just for a while. I think i’ve worn out my welcome pretty much everywhere else and Helena is always in New York and..”
Bette: “Yes Tina its ok” she said butting in
Tina: “Really, your sure?”
Bette: “This is still your house Tina. You should be here. Im never home anyway so you’ll have it to yourself most of the time” she said giving her a reasuring smile. She was trying to hold back the tears of happiness. She had wanted Tina to move back in for the longest time. It was going to be hard to contain herself with Tina in the house but she knew she had to.
Tina saw the compasion in Bette’s eyes. She remembered this face, she loved this face. Bette got up and walked into the bedroom. Tina felt her blood pressure rising and she was starting to feel flushed. Bette came back out into the living room with a couple of blankets and a pillow and set them down on the coffee table.
Bette: “Alright now, let’s get you to bed. We will figure things out tomorrow” she said extending her hand out to Tina.
Tina gladly accepted Bette’s hand for support and stood up. She reached over to the blankets and pillow.
Bette: “You don’t think your sleeping out here do you?” she laughed “I meant the bed Tina. I’ll sleep on the couch, it’s where I usually sleep anyway”
Tina hesitated for a second. “What does she mean, she usually sleeps on the couch.” she wondered as she slowly waked to the bedroom. She noticed that when Bette did sleep in the bed she slept on Tina’s side.
Bette: “If you need anything I will be up for a while. I have some work to do.” she said standing in the door way.
Tina looked around and took a deep breath. “I think im good.” she said with a smile. “Ok” came Bette’s reply as she shut the door and walked away.
Tina got changed and looked around the room again. She noticed a picture of them sitting on Bette’s dresser. It was their favorite picture. Alice had taken it the first night the gang met Tina. They looked so much in love. Tina was looking at the camera as Bette was placing a light kiss on her cheek. “What happened to that?” she said as a tear rolled down her face. She walked over to the bed and pulled back the sheets, she slowly slid in and pulled the blanet over here. Her pillow smelled like Bette, the whole bed smelled like her. Tina became comfortable instantly breathing in the famillar scent. She quickly fell asleep.

Tina woke up the next morning to the sound of the shower. She streached and began to open her eyes, she quickly realized where she was and took a deep breath. The famillar scent was still there. She got up and wondered down the hallway and into the kitchen. She started to boil water for tea when Bette came out of the bathroom. A smile came across Bette’s face when she saw Tina standing there.
Bette: “How did you sleep?” she said walking over to her.
Tina: “Honestly, better than I have in a long time” she replied
Bette: “That’s good to hear.” she said looking Tina over. She always thaught Tina looked so cute early in the morning.
Tina: “Do you mind if I make some breakfast?” she said putting the kettle of water on the stove
Bette: “No not at all, help yourself” she said grabing her keys.
Tina: “You want anything?” she knew Bette would decline but for some reason she was just trying to keep her home as long as possible.
Bette: “Nah, I got to get to work”
Tina: “Ok, well I’ll see you later then”
Bette: “Yeah ok, bye” she said as she leaned into kiss Tina on the cheek then quickly pulled back when she realized what she was doing. “***** im sorry, it was totally reflex”
Tina: “It’s ok, it’s ok. I know. This is gonna take a little time getting used to.”
Bette: “Yes it is” she said then walked towards the door.
Tina: “Hey Bette, if your not busy tomorrow I have this thing going on, you can come if you want. Alice and George are going to be there.”
Bette: “Yeah, yeah i’ll go. See you later” she turned towards the door and walked out.
