Bette listened as the woman on the phone spoke. All she heard was an amazing voice and a wonderful accent.

    Bette: eh.

Tina: oh, Im sorry to have disturbed you and landed one of my workmen with you at the weekend. Do you want me to call back later or maybe.

Bette: No, no. Im sorry too. Its just that I wasnt expecting to hear the accent thats all. It sounds so.. different and friendly. Where are you from?

Tina: Oh thats ok. Im from Scotland. You know the top part of the United Kingdom.

Bette: Scotland! Yes yes I know where that is. WOW. Your accent is so..cute! Oh my god, did I just say that thought Bette.

Tina: (blushing and being thankful that she was a zillion miles away), Thanks. Yours sounds different too I suppose.

Tina also thought that she had said something silly and cleared her throat and decided to move the conversation on.

Tina: Anyway. I was hoping to ask you about some colours for my new kitchen and one of my guest rooms. I have totally exhausted my brain on re decorating the rest of the house and cannot picture any colour schemes. I was hoping that I could ask a neighbour who had an eye for design, art or

Bette: (laughing at that comment) Yes I would love to advise you or help if I can. Your house is similar to mine but I guess that you have had some alterations done.

Tina: Yes, quite a few actually.

Bette: (taking charge) Ok how about a plan of action being that I go and have a look around your house and call you back. It is a beautiful morning here and the sunlight in the house will be perfect. I could call you back in an hour or so?

Tina: (thinking wow Bette you are very organised and helpful)..Are you sure you dont mind?

Bette: No, really I am getting over a hangover from last night so a walk will clear my head.

Tina: Perfect. Oh, why dont I call you? Its a long distance call and its late here.

Bette: no dont worry about it I will call you if you give me your number.

Just then Bette realised that it must evening or late in Scotland.

Bette: Would you like me to call you when it is morning with you? What time is it just now?

Tina: No no just call in an hour. Im up anyway with one of my girls. She has a sore tummy and wants her mum.

Bette: Oh you have children.? (Why do I feel pissed off at that, thought Bette?)

Tina: yes 2 wee girls. Emma is 8 and Lucy is 6. Lucy is sick but just needs a cuddle right now.

Bette: oh I hope she gets well soon. Bette thought of the words Tina used. Wee and mum. How cute! Bette had realised that she had butterflies in her stomach from talking to this Scottish woman. Weird Porter, you are weird. I know she sounds cute but she has 2 children and a husband and they will ALL be living HAPPILY next door as from next week. So get over the butterflies and go look at her house and choose some paint colours for her. AND HER FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bette: right give me your number and I will call you in an hour.

Tina: ok and thanks. Thanks a lot youre a lovely neighbour and Im looking forward to meeting you soon.

    Tina gave Bette her number.

Bette: (Not as much as Im looking forward to meeting you.., thought Bette). Dont mention it. It will be great to meet you and your family (this word stuck in Bettes throat a little. Get a grip Bette and be nice, Bette told herself).

The two women hung up. Bette decided to get dressed before going next door as the workman was still in her yard staring at her. She gave him his phone and said that she would be over in 5. Back in Scotland Tina sat cuddling Lucy. What a really lovely woman, she thought. I hope we can be friends. Tina cuddled Lucy and waited for the phone to ring. However, soon she was fast asleep.

    RING RING! RING RING!
