    Soul Harvest: Chapter 17

What in the ***** did that mean? Liz blurted out.

Nothing. I guess she just thinks since Bette and I are friends… well… Tina was lost for words, stumbling over herself, unable to explain Alices statement or nondiscreet wink.

I think she just meant it would be good if you got to know each other better. You know? Tina and Bette are starting a new friendship and Alice is friends with Bette, so she probably wants to get to know her better. Thats all. Mandy jumped in, trying to save Tina from a difficult discussion that didnt need to happen yet.

Yeah, guys, thats all. Tina grabbed Mandys hand under the table, and squeezed it, letting her thanks be known through a silent touch.

Ok. Anyway, watch out for Bette. She might have other intentions if you know what I mean. Liz nodded an expression of caution Tinas way. Shes a hunter of the same ***** and nothing usually stands in her way or so I hear.

Tina laughed and shook her head, ignoring the comment. From there, the conversation dwindled, and each woman went her separate way for the night.

As Tina walked into her apartment, she hit the answering machine, listening to the messages. She walked around, putting her pajamas on, suddenly stopping when she heard Bettes voice. Racing into the kitchen, she leaned over the machine, anxiously taking in each word. When the message was over, she played it two more times before throwing herself onto the couch, face aglow with excitement and love.

Bette arrived at Tinas, smelling the food as she walked up the stairs. Tina let her in, and Bette entered, taken aback. She looked around the apartment at lit candles illuminating the space, and she saw a blanket on the floor of the living room, two places set.

    It smells great in here!

I hope it tastes as good as it smells. Tina walked into the kitchen, opening the wine and filling two glasses which she handed to Bette and motioned for her to sit down on the blanket.

Im sorry about eating on the floor, but as you can see, I dont have a table, never mind any space for one. Tina explained as she carried a big bowl over to Bette.

I dont care. This is perfect. It feels so cozy. Smiling, Bette grabbed Tinas hand. There is nowhere else Id rather be than sitting on the floor next to you.

Tinas face flushed and she shyly smiled, letting go of Bette as she stood up to bring over a spoon to serve the food.

Spoon? Tina asked as she handed it to Bette.

Thanks. Bette began to serve herself.

I hope you like your food with a little kick to it. This is a thai chicken with a spicy peanut sauce and bean sprouts to top it off. Tina took the bowl from Bette and placed a generous amount in her own bowl.

Tina, this is excellent. I didnt know you were such a good cook!

Another one of my hobbies, I guess.

I learn something new every day with you, Tina Kennard.

Well, I learned that you have excellent choice in wine.

Both women smiled at each other and continued to eat, light conversation floating between them, wine flowing inside them. When they were finished eating, Tina gathered the dishes and brought out dessert, sugar cookies shaped like hearts with pink frosting decorating them.

Whats this? Bette laughed as she picked one up off the plate.

These are sugar cookies, homemade, my favorite recipe.

    Hearts?

I wanted to give you my heart, if you would take it.

Bette looked at Tinas eyes, reflecting the flickering candlelight. Ill take it.

She reached across the glasses of wine and plate of cookies, reaching Tina who met her halfway.

Im going to kiss you now, Bette whispered.

Tina nodded, both on their knees, face to face, and they kissed. Lips pressed firmly and softly, both held on, as if falling into the ocean, salty, refreshing, holding their breaths. And when they broke free from each other, they remained still, pink hearts in between them below, fire glowing all around.

    1. Soul harvest is a great title and great story. Congratulations on your wedding and even more on having the good fortune of living in a place where it is legal, this especially from one who lives in a “red” state.

    2. Loved this chapter, just like the cookies… very Yummy! Congratulations on your wedding! Best Wishes to You and Your Partner. Enjoy your special day.

Thanks so much for writing. 5 bright stars!

    3. My congratulations on your big day, n well done 4 living somewhere good enough to accept it! And further congrats on your story I love it and will be waiting for more!

    4. Congratulations!!! I’m sorry to hear that you have to move just to make it legal! I’ve heard of the issues, but really not pay much attention to it. I guess it’s because I’m straight and don’t care what the politicians have to say. I hope someday they will legalize gay marriages everywhere. I believe if two people are truly in love with each other they should have the right to be married regardless of sex. Good luck and I wish both of you well. Can’t wait till you return though, I can’t get enough of this story!

    5. “I’m going to kiss you now.” Ah, Bette is a woman after my own heart. It’s not every day you can utter this to a woman you’ve only begun to get to know, but when the moment is right, as you portrayed here, there’s nothing more sexy then those six little words.

    6. Congrats on the Wedding Great chapeter sorry we will have to wait for more..But I guess you have a good excuse..Maybe our story will get a little spicey after your honeymoon…

    7. controlfreak – it is definitely a shame we had to move to make it legal, especially after the recent election, but it’s good to stay positive… and get involved. it’s good to know what the politicians think about it, especially the ones in your state (if you’re from the states.)
