At the Planet

It was Friday and it had been 3 days since they had dinner and Tina had failed to contact Bette. She was too busy or she was just plain scared. She had never had feelings this strong for another person, thats what scared her. Since she had spoken with Bette on the phone she had not been with anyone and neither had she gone out. So she was feeling a little frustrated and edgy. She didnt know how to approach Bette with her feelings without scaring her as well. Thats all she had been thinking about the past few days.
She was just sitting at the table lost in her thoughts; she didnt notice Alice and Shane sitting there with her.

Alice: Hey Kennard, you big *****, snap out of it!!

Tina: (Finally realizing she had company) What?

Alice: What the heck is wrong with you? Weve been sitting here for a couple of minutes and youve just been in a daze.

Shane: Yeah man, whats up?

Tina: Nothing I I was just thinking thats all. So what have you guys been up to? (Taking a sip of her cold coffee.)

Alice: What have we been up to? We could ask you the same thing, but since you asked were doing all right, just the same ol, same ol (With a grin)

Shane: Anyway, how come youve been hiding out all week, we havent seen you here or at Milk. Youre missing out on all the fresh meat (With a big grin)

Tina: Ive just been busy trying to get a new movie started, thats all.

Alice: Oh s***, I totally forgot about that, and you that dinner with Bette Porter too. Damn!! How could I have forgotten?!! SO, how did it go?!!

Tina just sat there not knowing what to say.

Alice: Oh, was it really that bad?

Tina: NOabsolutely notit was was(Not knowing if she should say anything)

Shane: (Putting her hand on Tinas) Hey its ok, were your friends, remember?

Alice: Tina, really its ok, go ahead tell us.

Tina: OKwell it was wonderful(paused and a big grin began forming on her face)

Alice: AND??

Tina: I cant believe how smart and talented she is, and Alice? You were right she is definitely hot!! (Alice with that knowing look on her face) When I first saw her I was not myself, I just stood there staring at the most beautiful woman in the world. When I finally composed myself I introduced myself and shook her hand, and at that moment I lost it again! My stomach had butterflies, chills ran through my body, and I was feeling a little shaky I dont know what it is

Alice: (Looking at Tina and noticing that sparkle in her eyes when talking about Bette) Oh s***, you really like her dont you?

Tina: Yes, OK? I cant believe Im telling you guys this, but I really do like her. I just I just dont know how to tell her (With a worried look). Even when I think about her I just want to be with her.

Shane: So when you say you want to be with her, are you just talking about the ***** or do you want something more than that?

Tina: Shane its not just about the *****. I feel as if Ill just be more than happy if she is just by my side wherever we are I just I I dont know what to do

Alice: You should just tell her take her for a walk somewhere and let the cat out of the bag?

Shane: Alice?!!

Alice: What?!!

Tina: Alice, its not that easy.

Alice: Why not? Nothing has got in the way before.

Tina: Because shes straight and did I mention that she has a boyfriend? S***!! (Putting her face in her hands)

Alice & Shane: F***!!!

Alice: DAMN Tina!! You got it bad for a straight girl with a boyfriend.

Shane: Sorry man

Tina just sat with a look of defeat.

Alice: God Tina!! Look at you, I have never seen you like this before, what happened to the confident, cool, and charming Kennard that I know? So shes straight use that Kennard charm that no one can resistCall her up today and take her to lunch and tell her how you feel or else this- what ever it is your feeling- is going to eat you up on the inside, and Im telling you it wont be fun talking to you dead!! (Trying to get a smile out of Tina)

Tina: (She let out a small laugh) OK(Looking at Alice)… Ill call her.

Alice: Thats my girl! Now, no more hiding outso will Shane and I see you at Milk tonight?

Tina: Definitely! (Getting up to leave) Thanks you guys (Giving them a hug) I gotta go I have a lot of things to do today (winking at both of them) See you guys tonight. Bye!

Alice & Shane: Bye!

Alice: S*** shes got it real bad for one Ms. Bette Porter.

Shane: This should be very interesting.

At the CAC

Bette was not having a good morning, she had just been going to meetings after meetings trying to get the new show together and getting all the contracts together for the artists and Alphaville, for the movie.
Not only was she not having a good morning, but she had been edgy the past few days because things werent working as fast as she wanted them to or… because Tina hadnt called her since the dinner. She didnt know why she wanted her to call, she just felt like she needed to know more about Tina, not just her job but her life, and she couldnt explain that.
She felt kind of bad because she had been taking her edginess out on her co-workers and Eric as well. She respected Eric, he was always patient with her when she was stressed, ‘frustrated’, or upset. Thats why she loved him so much, but lately she was feeling more like a sister to him and vice versa. She knew she could talk to him about anything, but she didnt know how to approach him about their relationship. She didnt want to hurt his feelings, but she wanted to be honest with him and she knew she had to break up with him. She was having stronger feelings for Tina that she had never felt with anyone in her life, so she knew she had to explore these feelings. She knew she was pushing her feelings and thoughts aside, but they were getting harder to fight, so she knew she had to see Tina, and at that moment James buzzed her

James: Bette, there is a delivery here for you, do you want me to bring it to your office or do you want to pick it up?

Bette: Ill be right there James, thanks.

Bette walked over to James desk and immediately saw the most beautiful and magnificent tulips she had ever seen. (Trying to keep her excitement in check) She grabbed the card out of the flowers and read it. Then she told James to call Ms. Kennard and transfer the call to her office.

She went back to her office with the flowers in hand and she sat down to read the card again.

I called earlier and I heard that you werent having a good day, so I wanted to cheer you up, I hope these flowers did the trick Tina

James: Bette, Ms. Tina Kennard on line one.

Bette: Thanks James Tina hi!

Tina: Well hello Ms. Porter, what do I owe the privilege of this call? (Already knowing why she called)

Bette: (Stomach filled with butterflies) Bette, please! I wanted to thank you for the flowers or tulips that you sentthey are magnificent and they definitely cheered me up. Thank you! How did you know tulips are my favorite?

Tina: (Biggest grin ever) your welcome, Im glad they cheered you up, but I didnt know that they were your favorite they are mine so I decided to take a chance.

Bette: Well Im glad you did so why did you call earlier?

Tina: Oh ummmIve been busy all week (Not a total lie) and I wanted to know if you would like to have lunch today? (Crossing her fingers)

Bette: S***, S***, S*** Well umm Im meeting Eric for lunch today, but(Cut off)

Tina: (Disappointed) Oh, thats ok, maybe next week sometime.

Bette: (The disappointed tone didnt go unnoticed) Well you didnt let me finish, I was going to say that dinner is probably better, if that is ok with you?

Tina: (S***, S***, S***, Im just going to have to see them in the morning) Yeah tonight is fine, do you want me to pick you up or do you want to meet at the restaurant? (Also trying to hide her excitement)

Bette: Why dont we meet at Dominics, Ill be here for a while.

Tina: Ok, is 7pm fine?

Bette: Yeah!

Tina: 7 it is then! Ill see you tonight, have a good afternoon Bette.

Bette: Thanks again for the flowers, that was very sweet of you. Have a good afternoon. Bye.

Tina: (Blushing) Bye

Bette was more than happy to be having dinner with Tina tonight, but she still had to talk to Eric. So she called him and she asked him if they could meet for lunch. They decided on a coffee shop because neither of them were hungrywell, Eric was, but he knew that something was up because they never met for lunch, ever. Bette was always busy at the CAC and she didnt have much time for lunch. …So, Bette wasnt going to eat if Eric wasnt, so they just ordered a cup of coffee and sat at a booth.

Bette: (Trying to get rid of the awkward silence) This is kind of weird, we never met for lunch before.

Eric: Yeah it is, so is there something you need to tell me?

Bette: (Trying to back out) What makes you say that?

Eric: (In a calm voice) come on Bette, stop bull s***ing me, (Holding up a finger) first, you always have that serious look on your face when you need to tell me something, and (Holding up another finger) second, you already said that we never meet for lunch, so what is it?

Bette: Ok Weve been together for five months now… and I enjoyed it very muchI did, but lately I havent been feeling that connection as a couple but only as friendsI love you very much but Im not IN love with youIm(A tear rolling own her cheek) Im asking you if we could just be friends?

Eric was always loving, caring, understanding, and always a great listener, so he grabbed the left side of her face with his right hand and with his thumb he gently wiped away her tear.

Eric: Bette I love you too and you will always be in my heart. I want you to know that I understand and I think that being friends is best (With a loving smile).

Bette: (She smiled back at him and got up to give him a hug) Thanks for understanding Eric. I wasnt sure how to tell you, but I know now that I can talk to you about anythingumm Im really sorry but I gotta go, its been a zoo all morning and afternoon at the CAC. You know, new show coming up.

Eric: Yeah

Bette: Ill see you later Eric.

Eric: Bye Bette.

Bette walked out of the coffee shop and she felt like a ton of bricks had been lifted off her shoulders. She was sure that something was going to happen with Tina sooner or later and she didnt want to hurt Eric in anyway, so she knew she was doing the right thingshe hopedif she didnt do it now then she would never know
I hope Tina feels the same way.
