Let It Go
Chapter 18 – Nice and Easy
Kit was the first to recover. This wasnt going the way she had envisioned but then she didnt have a lot of time to think this over tonight. Kit really wasnt going to reveal that fact. So now that everything was a little out of control Kit felt compelled to take over.
Kit: OK, well I guess that cats out of the bag. Guys, before you start drilling me with questions, that WAS a detail I was going to leave to Bette. Now that its out, I still feel Bette needs to direct that conversation with each of you but let me do the cliff note version. Shane and I found Bette, she has been in different places, hospitals and half way houses and now lives in her own apartment near downtown. I think the important thing and the best take away is Bette is a different person now.
Alice just could wait any longer: Wait, let me get this straight, Bette attempted suicide, you guys found her and she actually agreed to therapy and the results are she it a different person? Different how, did she have shock therapy or something?
Kit: No Alice, really she is softer, more open I dont know. Kit starts to describe what the new Bette is now. I dont know how to being. Shes changed. It starts within, her personality radiates out. Her outward appearance is different because she is different on the inside. I find her so much easier to be around now. I guess the image she projected to the world for all to see is no longer there. Whats left is this warm and sensitive person. As Kit thinks she finally comes up with something she hopes will give the right description.
Kit: You know if Bette where music I would say that her previous demeanor was more like a Lenny Kravitz song. You know hard driving base, loud always moving. Do you know what I mean?
Kit looks at Alice and Dana. They both sit there and slowly nod their heads and rocking their bodies to the beat as if playing American Woman or Lady in their heads.
Kit: Well if that used to be Bette then the new Bette is more like Bob Marley.
Right away Alice: You mean she is into POT?
Kit: God NO!!! Havent you ever heard Stir it Up or I know Jammin?
They both kind of just look at her.
Kit: OK let me get someone you may recognize with your short memory. How about Nora Jones when she sings Those Sweet Words or maybe John Meyer with Daughters?
The light goes on with the girls.
Alice: Wow, you mean she sort of goes with the flow, nice and easy?
Kit: Yeah nice and easy. Thats probably a good way to describe it.
The girls continued to discuss the new Bette for a while longer. The full impact was just beginning to sink in. Alice was the first to state the obvious: So how do we get Bette back? Do we let Tina know?
Shane: These are all great questions. Kit and I have been trying to put together a plan. Do you two want to be part of the mission?
Dana looks at Alice Im in, what about you? Alice is quiet making up her mind hesitating and then says: Im in but if we see that this plan will somehow hurt either Tina or Bette then we need to quit, agreed? They all agreed and Shane began to share her ideas for the plan.
The girls seemed to be getting over their anger that Bette had left them out. Alice was opening up enough to wrap her mind around the thought that Bette had grown into another person. Was that possible? She hoped for Tina sake because that was the only way that Tina would even think about taking her back.
