Alice had been avoiding Dana for the past few days since the infamous kiss they shared at 4 AM. Even though she was too embarrased to be around Dana it was tearing her up inside not being able to see her best friend. Usually when she felt this confused she would call Dana, but now it was Dana that was causing all the confusion. She sat in her chair thinking of ways she could see her without making it awkward for either of them. Finally a thought popped into her head and she picked up the phone and called Dana.

Dana: “Hello”
Alice: “Hey Dane, I was wondering if you could do me a favor. Tina borrowed my car and I left some papers at the office that I need for an article I’m writing. So if you aren’t busy, I was wondering if you could give me a ride down there really quick”
Dana: “Of course I can, just give me a few minutes to get dressed and I’ll be right over”

Alice hung up the phone and sighed. “That wasn’t so hard” she thought to herself. She got out of her chair and paced around her living room until she heard Dana’s horn. She walked out of her apartment and saw Dana’s Subaru waiting for her. She got in the car and smiled nervously at Dana.

Alice: “Thank you so much, if I don’t get these papers tonight I’m going to be in a lot of trouble”
Dana: “It’s no problem, I was really happy when you called me because I’ve missed you”
Alice: “I’ve missed you too”
(There was an awkward silence)
Dana: “So, how is Tina doing?”
Alice: “She’s doing pretty well, considering what she’s going through.”
They continued to talk about Bette and Tina until they pulled up to Alice’s work.

Alice: “Ok, I’ll be right back”
Dana: “Do you mind if I come inside with you?”
Alice: “Of course not, what was I thinking. Leaving a beautiful woman in a car this late at night is a bad idea”
Dana: “Did you just say I was beautiful?”
Alice: “No….you must be hearing things”

They both got out of the car and started walking towards the door. Alice was shocked that she had called Dana beautiful. She didn’t even mean to say it, it just slipped out of her mouth. She continued walking however pretending that nothing was wrong. When they got to the door Alice took out her keys and tried to open the door, but her hands were a little shaky. Dana grabbed her hand and helped her get the key in the hole.

Dana: “I know I’m *****, but even I can get the key in the hole”
Alice: “You pervert”
They both laughed and walked into the lobby. Alice stood by the elevator and pressed the button to go up. Dana walked up dangerously close behind her. Alice could feel Dana’s warm breath as she whispered into her ear.

Dana: “I bet I can beat you up the stairs”
(Alice turned around to face her)
Alice: “Are you crazy, my desk is on the 5th floor”
Dana: “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that my best friend was chicken”
Alice: “I’m not chicken, it’s just that I’m not going to give into your childish game….would you mind throwing this wrapper away though before the elevator comes”
Dana: “Sure”

Dana walked a few feet to the trashcan and when she turned around Alice was gone. All she heard was Alice’s voice yelling “haha, sucker” coming from the stairwell. Dana sprinted up the steps and caught up with Alice. Alice was prepared though, she was using her butt to block Dana from getting in front of her. When they got to the top of the stairs they were both laughing histerically.

Dana: “You are such a cheater, first you started early, and then you use your big butt as a shield.”
Alice: “Hey, it’s not my fault that you fell for the oldest trick in the book, and my butt is not big”
Dana: “Ok Al, but you weren’t the one that kept running into it”
Alice: “Shut up Fairbanks, at least I have a butt”

The girls started laughing again as Alice walked to her desk and rummaged through papers. She grabbed the documents that she needed and shut off the lights. Alice decided that this time they were not going to take the stairs. They stood in front of the elevator and waited for the doors to open. They stepped inside the elevator and Alice pressed the button for the lobby. The girls stood in the elevator quietly and watched the numbers on top of the door as they descended. “5,4,3″….the elevator stopped. Alice looked over at Dana who had her hand on the stop button.

Dana: ” Before we leave this elevator we need to talk about us…and the kiss”
Alice: “I really can’t deal with this right now Dana, can’t we just forget that it ever happened”
Dana: “Sure….my best friend shows up at my house at 4 AM, kisses me while my fiance is upstairs, and then runs off without explaining herself. Yeah, not a problem, I can forget about that”
Alice: “Look…. I didn’t mean to kiss you”
Dana: (giggling) “Oh so you tripped and your mouth accidently fell on mine”
Alice: “You can be such a dork sometimes Fairbanks”
Dana: “Seriously though, what made you kiss me?”
Alice: “I don’t want to talk about it”
Dana: “Please tell me”
Alice: “Seriously…I can’t”
Dana: “Fine Al, I’ll just forget about it then”
Alice: “Thank You”

Dana pressed the button and the elevator began to move. Dana folded her arms and sighed loudly, showing her obvious annoyance about the situation. A few seconds later the elevator stopped again.

Dana: “You know what, I’m not going to just forget about it, I deserve the truth”
Alice: “You don’t want to hear the truth, trust me”
Dana: “Geez, what’s the big deal? Just tell me”
Alice: “Fine Dana, if you want it that bad then here it is….I’m in love with you. I’ve had these feelings for a long time, but I didn’t have the guts to tell you. There…are you happy now”
(Alice looked at the ground, while Dana stared at her)
Dana: ” Why wait until now though…I mean there were so many oppurtunities when we were both single….”
Alice: ” Because although you are incredibly clumsy and dorky at times, I see through it all to the real you. I mean you are so unbelievably amazing…I don’t even think that you realize it. I know that I pick on you all the time, but you’ve accomplished so much in your life and to be honest, I don’t think that I’m good enough for you”
Dana: “I….I….I don’t know what to say”
Alice: “You dont have to say anything, I already know what’s going on in your head right now. You’re probably freaking out trying to figure out how to tell me that you don’t feel the same way. Don’t worry though, I completly understand, and just to let you know I wasn’t expecting anything to change between us, I don’t even know why I kis…….

Alice was cut off by Dana’s lips against her own. With each minute the kiss became more and more intense. Alice eventually pulled away and they both gasped for air.

Alice: “So are you trying to tell me that……”
Dana: “Yes Al, I love you too”
Alice: “Wait, this isn’t a dream is it?”
Dana: “If it was a dream then you wouldn’t be able to feel this”
(She reached around and pinched Alice’s butt)
Alice: “Ouch, what’d you do that for?”
Dana: “Well if you were dreaming you wouldn’t be able to feel that, now would you?”
Alice: “Touche…but you better watch it cause that kinda turned me on”
Dana: “Oh really, then I may just do it again”

Dana moved in closer and began to devour Alices mouth. The temperature in the elevator began to rise as the girls kissed. As Dana started to undo Alices shirt, she pulled away again.

Alice: “What about Tonya? I know how horrible you would feel if you cheated on her, and I don’t want to see you go through that.”
Dana: “You’re right Al, I would never forgive myself if I hurt someone like that.”
Alice: “So I guess that means that we’re going back to Dana and Alice- best friends”
Dana: “Well I was thinking more like Dana and Alice- best friends turned lovers”
Alice: “So you’re going to break up with Tonya?”
Dana: “I have to, and it’s not just because of what’s going on between us. I also have to do it for myself. I rushed into everything with her because when you think that you are going to be alone for the rest of your life you take what you can get”
Alice: “I know what you mean, why do you think that I go back to Gabby all the time”
Dana: “Don’t get me started on Gabby”
Alice: “I know, I know…why don’t we just get out of here and go deal with the real world”
Dana: “All right, and I promise that I wont stop the elevator anymore”
Alice: “Good, because I don’t know how much longer I can keep my hands off you”

Dana pressed the button and they went down to the lobby. After Alice locked up, they walked hand in hand to the car. When Dana got in the car she turned on the radio to make the ride more comfortable for the both of them. Dana’s hand was resting on the center console which was something that she always did. But this time it was different, Alice’s hand also managed to find it’s way onto it. In a very slick motion Alice slid her hands under Dana’s and intertwined fingers.

Dana: “Our hands fit together so perfectly”
Alice: “I know”
Dana: “It’s strange that we’ve never noticed it before, I mean we have held hands before”
Alice: “True, I guess it’s something that we ignored, just like out true feelings for each other”
(They continued to hold hands until they pulled up to Alices apartment building)
Dana: “Well, we’re here Al, let me go get your door for you.”

Dana got out of her car and ran around the side to let Alice out. She couldn’t help but giggle at how cute Dana was being. Alice got out of the car and thanked Dana. They stood there in silence staring into each other’s eyes until Alice moved closer and hugged Dana.

Alice: “I really don’t want to let go of you”
Dana: “I know, I don’t want you too either, but I have to take care of some things before we start anything”
Alice moved her head back but kept her arms around Danas neck. Dana leaned in and gave Alice a slow, sensual kiss. After a few minutes Dana broke the kiss and rested her head on Alice’s shoulder. Alice started to run her fingers through Dana’s hair.
Dana: “I’ve got to go, If I stay here any longer I’m afraid of what we might do”
Alice: “I understand, just call me when you get home”
Dana: “I will”

Dana picked her head off of Alice’s shoulder and gave her one last kiss before getting in her car. Alice smiled as she walked up to her door and opened it. As soon as she got inside and closed the door she broke out into a rendition of James Brown’s “I Feel Good”, dancing included.

Tina: “Wow…someone is in a good mood today.”
Alice: “You have no idea Tina, you have no idea”
