Slowly her breathing returned to normal and she was able to stand up straight without leaning on the doorframe.

What just happened? she thought to herself.

Suddenly she could feel those lips on hers again as she relived the feeling of that kiss. Her heart raced again and her breathing sped up. A kiss had never made her feel like that before, and certainly not just the memory of a kiss. Her mind was reeling as she tried to think about what she should do. Thoughts flashed through her mind at top speed;

my best friend Alice just kissed me,
Im engaged to Tonya,
Im stood on my doorstepdid anyone see me?,
but she said she never wanted to sleep with me,
***** she must love me,
maybe she did it just to stop me marrying Tonya.

The thoughts went on and on until she shook her head and then gazed out to the street and let her eyes focus on a tiny speck of light in the distance. This was how she focussed when she played tennis and she was struggling with her nerves. Slowly everything else fell away and the only voice in her head was the one she knew was right;

Youve loved her since you first met her, but didnt think you had a chance, and now maybe you do.

Her frown began to slip away and a smile crept across her face until she was grinning uncontrollably and the full excitement of what had just happened hit her like a wave.

She turned back to open the door when she suddenly remembered who was inside, waiting for her. She stood for a while with her hand on the doorknob and her forehead resting on the door, whispering admissions and apologies, until they sounded right and she felt confident enough to step back inside and say what she knew needed to be said. It was time that Dana Fairbanks took charge of her life and took what she wanted and the sooner she told Tonya it was over, the sooner that could happen. Whatever happened with Alice, Dana had to give it a shot or she would regret it forever.

As the front door swung shut behind her, she walked towards the bedroom and towards the truth.
