Chapter 30


As the plane touched down, all Dana could think about was that she would be in Laras arms. That she would be able to touch her, hold her, to kiss her. The tournament went well. Dana placed second and moved up in the rankings. The coverage had been wonderful. She had done her job and gotten the Subaru name on the screen and said it as often as she could have.

There was something that didnt seem right with it all though. She had figured it out when she looked to her right during one interview and saw Tonya there instead of Lara. Everyone thought that they were a couple, one paper even printed a picture of the two of them together. Dana could only hope that Lara would understand. She also hoped that none of the press got back to her mother. She still hadnt remembered that Dana had told her that she was *****.

As she walked off of the jet way and into the terminal, she reached for her cell phone to call Lara. Before she could even press the send button, it began to ring. Without even looking at the display, she answered it knowing in her mind and heart that it was Lara.

Hey baby, Ive missed you so much.

Well, is this how you answer your phone all the time? If it is, I will have to call you more often.

Who is this? Danas voice became upset and stern.

This is Tonya.

Dana couldnt believe that this woman was calling her already. She hadnt left her but 4 hours ago. I thought you were someone else.

Obviously. You havent even taken me out for drinks and you are already calling me baby. Tonya snickered. I know that after the press conference, people thought that we were an item, but I didnt know that you felt the same way.
IIis there something that you needed? Dana couldnt put a complete thought together. Her face was flushed and her heart was beating erratically from the embarrassment.

I just wanted to say that it was a pleasure working with you and that I look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Me too. Dana wanted to get off the phone as fast as possible. I need to go, I am just getting off the plane.

Oh, Im sorry. I will let you go and talk to you soon then. Ok. Bye.

As Dana hurried through the exit at the security gates, she didnt even notice the people there waiting for her.

DANA!

Startled, Dana turned around to see Lara and her mother there.

Danas eyes lit up as her eyes gazed upon Lara and her mother. She almost couldnt believe it. Danas hand instinctively slipped into Laras as she began to kneel down next to her mother in the wheelchair. Are you a sight for sore eyes!

You are too dear. Sharons voice seemed strong and vibrant.

When did you get out of the hospital? Why didnt someone call me? Danas eyes floated up to look at Lara.

Your mom made me promise that I wouldnt tell. She wanted to surprise you. Laras eyes seemed to sparkle at the sight of Dana. She got out 2 days ago and has been doing great.

Wheres daddy? Dana stood up and began to look around.

He had a business trip that he had to go on and he took your brother with him. So Lara volunteered to take care of me while they were gone. Sharon patted Laras hand that was resting on her shoulder. Why dont we get your bags and go out to lunch.

Are you sure mom, I dont want you to get worn out. Dana wasnt sure of how much her mom could handle.

Im sure. Now come on, lets go, Im starved.

As the women made their way to the baggage claim area, Dana couldnt help but fall more in love with Lara. The woman continued to amaze her. She knew that anything and everything was possible with Lara in her life.

Honey, isnt that your ad?

Dana was ripped from her thoughts at the question posed to her by her mother. Her eyes darted around to only fall upon her Subaru ad at the car rental counter across from the baggage claim.

Umm, yeah, it is. I only thought that they were going to put it in magazines and stuff. Dana was horrified, thinking that her mother would remember everything right then and there.

You look good, honey. I think the photographer did a great job at capturing your competitive spirit.

To Danas relief, Sharon said nothing about the words printed next to her on the ad. Finally, her bags came down the carousel after what seemed like an eternity. She grabbed them and practically pulled everyone out the door to get to the car before Sharon had time to comprehend what the words actually meant.

Sharon settled into the back seat as Dana and Lara put her wheelchair in the trunk along with the luggage.

Mom, are you sure you are ok back there? You know you can sit up here.

Im fine. I feel like I am being chauffeured around. Lara has been wonderful, not to mention, I am going to gain 10 pounds by the time your father gets home. I havent eaten so good for a long time.

How long is daddy going to be gone for?

Two weeks. He had to fly to New York and then to Boston. Sharon shifted in her seat to get more comfortable. He thought that it would be a great opportunity for him and your brother to do some male bonding as well as to learn a bit of history.

So where have you been staying? Dana was afraid of the answer. She didnt know if they were staying at her place or where. All she could see was Lara grinning from ear to ear at the question.

Lara has come to stay with me at the house. I was hoping that you would join us and make it a girls thing for the next couple of weeks.

Yeah Dana, why dont you do that. Lets have a girls thing. Lara began to giggle under her breath.

I dont have enough clothes to wear for two weeks.

Well, the place I would like to go is near your house, so why dont we just stop and get you your clothes.

What about Mr. Piddles? I cant leave him for that long. Dana was trying to think of everything not to go, but she was headed off at every pass.

He is already at the house. Lara brought him with her when she came. She explained how she was having to take care of him while you were gone, so I just told her to pack him up and bring him with her.

Well, I guess there is really no reason for me not to then. Lets go get me packed up and head to lunch.

Dana had tried and failed. She saw Laras body rocking back and forth from giggling so hard under her breath. How was she going to get through the next two weeks with her mother down the hall from her when all she wanted to do was to make love to Lara? She knew that she wouldnt be able to hold out for two more weeks. These past few days were only made bearable because of the phone ***** and her busy schedule.

It didnt take long for her to throw a few clothes together and to call her coach. She told him that instead of practicing at the club, that he would need to come to her parents house. She had decided that she would practice there to be close to her mother in case she needed her. She could hear her mother and Lara downstairs talking and laughing. She could only hope, but she knew in her heart that once her mom remembered that she was ***** that her heart would break again.

As she made her way downstairs, she could hear the laughter stop.

What? Did I miss something? Dana saw the smirks on Lara & Sharons faces.

No dear, you didnt miss anything. Are you ready to go to lunch? Sharon held her smile inside, or at least attempted to.

What are you two up to? Dana became suspicious of the two women before her.

Nothing. I promise. WE are not up to anything. Lara put the emphasis on we, hoping Dana wouldnt ask anything else. Now, lets get this into the car and head to lunch.

Once back in the car Dana wondered what restaurant her mother knew that was close to her.

So where are we going for lunch?

I heard about this fabulous little place. Lara highly recommended it. Sharon began to smile again, trying to keep a straight face.
Well, if Lara recommended it, it must be good. Dana sighed a breath of relief. So what is the name of the place?

The Planet.

Danas heart dropped to the pit of her stomach when she heard her mother say those two words. She squeezed Laras hand so tightly, that her knuckles turned as white as her face. If looks could have killed, Lara would have been dead ten times over.

OW! Lara pulled her hand away from Dana quickly.

Why dont we go someplace else mom. I am not too sure about the people at The Planet. They may be a bit too rowdy for you.

Nonsense. I am sure that we will have a wonderful time. Lara says that she and you go there all the time.

Dana felt like a rat trapped and she had no escape route. Lara tried to reassure her by holding her hand, but Dana ripped it away and sat the rest of the drive with her arms folded, staring out the window.

They arrived at the Planet and it seemed like they may have missed the rush. It almost seemed deserted. Dana thought that maybe no one but Marina was there. Marina knew not to say anything around her mother.

Wait mom, Ill get your wheelchair.

Thats ok dear. It is only a short distance. I can walk with a cane that far. I just couldnt do it at the airport. Sharon swung her legs out the door and braced herself with her cane.

Ok, but Im not leaving your side.

And Im not leaving yours dear.

It seemed that Sharon may have meant something else with that simple statement, but Dana didnt think twice about it. As they opened the door and walked in, Dana stood there in astonishment.

SURPRISE!!!!

Everyone was there and a banner hung saying Congratulations Dana.

All the gang ran up to hug Dana.

One by one, Bette, Tina, Shane, Alice, Marina and Jenny congratulated her on placing second in the tournament. Everyone seemed so proud of her.

Wow, I never expected anything like this. Danas heart was overflowing with joy. The tears welled up in her eyes, knowing that she had friends that cared so much about her. But something seemed amiss. No one really seemed too overjoyed.

Well, I need to get back to the CAC. Congratulations Dana. I am so proud of you. Bette left without even saying goodbye to Tina, or even hugging her.

So tell us. How was it playing against Venus and Serena? Alice grabbed her friend around the shoulder and led her to the tables that had been pushed together.

Whats going on?

Nothin, Alice tried to steer the conversation back to the tournament. So is Anna Kournakova as ***** as they say?

Dana sat next her mom and Lara through the lunch and told stories from the locker room and the parties. Everyone listened to her intently. As they ate and drank into late afternoon, time seemed like it was standing still. Dana looked around and saw her friends and knew that no matter what, she had love in her life and that she would never be alone.

Well Dane, its been real, but I need to head. Got a hot one on the line tonight. Shane got up to leave. Ill catch ya later. With that, Shane threw up her hand and walked out the door.

Wow, I didnt realize how late it was getting. Alice, can you give me a ride? Tina stood up and walked over to Danas chair. Its nice to have you home. Tina bent down and gave Dana a hug goodbye.

Right behind ya! Alice kissed Dana on the cheek. Call me. Alice stared wide-eyed at Dana. Bye Mrs. Fairbanks. See you soon. Alice even gave Danas mom a hug.

Marina and Jenny had retired to the office a bit before, so it was Dana, Lara and Sharon left at the big table.

Sharon glanced over to Lara and Lara suddenly rose from her chair. I need to go to the little girls room, Ill be right back.

Ill go with you. Dana began to stand.

Dana, could you wait, I would like to talk to you for a moment. Sharons hand grabbed Danas with a sort of urgency.

Sure mom. Dana sat back down with a sort of emptiness in her stomach as Lara headed off.

Dana, Sharon held her daughters hand tightly, I want you to know that I love you, no matter what.

I love you too mom. Dana searched Sharons eyes trying to figure out what she was trying to say.

I know.

Dana could feel her lunch begin to make its way back up to her throat.

You know? The fear and dread in Danas voice was evident as her head dropped to her chest.

I remembered a few days ago. I saw your ad in a magazine that I was reading and I remembered everything. I also remembered that you are my daughter and all that I want is your happiness. You know that you have a very special person in Lara. We have gotten to know each other very well over the past couple of days. She is the one who thought of this party for you. She is the one who made me see that you havent changed, just because you are in love with a woman.

The tears streamed down Danas face. Mom, II

Its ok Dana. Sharons hand caressed her daughters cheek. We will make it through this and we will be stronger for it. Both women smiled at each other through their tears.

Did I miss something? Lara approached the table quietly, as if not to disturb anyone.

Nothing was said. Dana rose from her chair and hugged Lara with all her strength. I love you.

Me too. Lara smiled as she spoke those two words. Now, how about we get home so we can all relax.

Sharon looked at Dana and Lara and could see the love flow between them. I can go along with that.

The drive to Sharons house seemed to go by quickly. Dana was daydreaming about her and Lara the whole way, holding her hand. As they unpacked the car, Sharon told them that she was a bit tired and was going to take a nap. Dana walked her mother to her room and made sure that she got settled in. Once Sharon closed her eyes, Dana searched for Lara, finding her in her old bedroom.

What are you doing in here?

Waiting for you. Lara slinked across the room and pulled Dana into her arms. Ive been waiting for this all day. As Laras soft lips pressed into Danas, Dana melted against Lara. She too had been waiting all day to be able to kiss Lara.

Dana abruptly pulled away. We cant do this.

Why not? Lara tried to pull Dana back into their passion.

This is my childhood room, this is my parents house. Dana pulled completely away. I cant do this here.

Lara began to snicker. You cant? Why not? I think it is kind of a turn-on. Lara pressed her ***** into Danas back and let her arms wrap around her waist. You know you cant resist it. Laras lips gently brushed Danas ear.

Dana could feel her resistance weakening. Lara knew how to get her every time. Her eyes slowly closed as she felt herself falling to the touch of her lovers hands.

Not in here at least. It is too close to mothers room. Dana swung around in Laras arms and kissed her hungrily. There is a guest room at the other end of the house.

I know. Lara returned the hunger. That is where I have been dreaming about you. Lara smiled into their kiss. Come on.

They barely made it to the room. Neither woman could keep their hands off of each other. As Lara opened the door, Dana couldnt believe her eyes. The room was lit with candles and a fire in the fireplace.

Dana leaned back into Lara. Melting at her touch.

Does this seem familiar to you? Lara whispered into Danas neck.

Kind of, Dana leaned further back into Lara at the touch of her lips but somethings missing.

What baby? Laras hands began to slide under Danas shirt.

The pillows honey. I distinctively remember large feather pillows in the letter. Dana began to chuckle.

Well, Lara took Danas hand and led her to in front of the fireplace is this better?

The pillows were in front of the fireplace, just as in her story.

You think of everything.

You would think so. Lara pulled Dana into her yet again. I love you so much. I have missed you.

Ive missed you too baby. Dana looked deep into Laras eyes; I love you with every beat of my heart.

They each began to undress the other. Their passion rising deep within them. Lara laid Dana down on the pillows, the fire crackling in front of them.

You are so beautiful. Lara softly kissed Danas lips and let her hands roam the body next to her.

As the kiss broke, both of them stared at each other and then out the windows on either side of the fireplace. They both stared at the magnificent sunset. The different hues of orange, purple and pink.

That can even begin to compare to you. Dana turned back to look at Lara. You are more beautiful to me than that sunset.

Dana seized the moment and kissed Lara deeply. Danas hands began to caress Laras body. Her lips slowly moved down her neck, to her *****, where the met with her hands. As Dana took Laras nipple into her succulent mouth, her hand massaged the other.

Laras breath caught as she felt Danas tongue flick her erect nub. Dana smiled as she felt Laras hands in her hair.

I thought I was supposed to be making love to you. Laras voice was deep and dripping with lust.

Its my turn. Dana took Laras other breast in her mouth, gently sucking on it before she made her way down. Well, it looks like someone is happy that I am home. Danas eyes gleamed at the sight before her.

Lara knew what she was talking about. She could feel the juices on her thighs and all she could do was smile.

As Dana took her tongue and parted Laras swollen lips, Laras body seized in ecstasy and her back arched. Dana knew that Lara was ripe. She could taste the sweet nectar that she had missed for the past few days. As she slowly enjoyed the taste of her lover, her hands found themselves on Laras cheeks of her *****, kneading them to Laras rhythm.

Dana flicked her tongue on Laras *****, eliciting a loud moan.

Right there baby. Laras hips began to rotate faster.
Dana obliged. Flicking and sucking, only stopping to lick up the juices that now flowed freely from Lara. As Lara began to come, Dana slid two fingers inside, making Lara lurch up only to fall back down on the pillows. Dana knew exactly where to find that elusive spot in Lara. As her finger curled and her tongue flicked, Laras hips bucked wildly.

Oh yes! Dont stop! Lara grabbed Danas head and held it in its spot.

Lara had never felt like this before. Her body was still seizing on its own as she came down from the heights of passion. Her muscles clinched and held Danas fingers in place.

As Dana slowly made her way back up Laras body, she was finally able to gently slide her fingers out of Lara. I love you.

I love you too. Welcome home.

They both fell asleep on the pillows, bodies glistening in the firelight.
