A Light Romance: Chapter 1
Chapter One
Bette closed her eyes and let the warm rays of the sun dance over her skin. With an exasperated breathe she sat up and looked around. She was bored! She had being telling her friends for months that shed go away with them and had unfortunately spoken too soon when she suggested going to the Cayman islands for a week of fun in the sun.
Bette had been hoping for a week of sun and relaxation with her three best friends but their ideas of fun seemed to defer and she found herself alone this morning. Shane was still in bed from her late night activities. Dana was off at the gym, why anyone would work out on vacation was beyond Bette. And Alice had set her eyes on a bartender the first day and was glued to the bar trying to catch his eye.
As Bette sat up in frustration to see if she could spot any of her friends her eyes were drawn to a group of women who seemed to be enjoy themselves on the beach a few yards away. She peered over her sunglasses at the women who were talking loudly as they rested on their beach towels to tan. Bette was debating going over to talk to them (thinking that they may be a welcome breathe of fresh air on their trip) when her eyes were drawn to the blonde women who abruptly stood up and looked over her way.
Bette could not take her could not take her eyes off of the blonde whose tanned skin was accentuated by her white bikini. She let her eyes roam up and down then back up the beautiful woman as thoughts and fantasies of what she would love to do to the womens body ran through her head. But when she reached her face again Bette jolted as it appeared that the woman was looking directly at her. Bette knew she should look away but she wasnt a hundred percent sure that the woman was staring at her , as her large sunglasses prevented Better from seeing her eyes, and suddenly found herself hoping that she was.
Just then the blonde woman broke into a big smile and began to wave. Bette was sure that she did not know the woman but was about the return the gesture when a someone came running past her towards the group. Bette was glad that she was saved from more embarrassment by having not waved. As the blonde turned her attention back to the group Bette quickly packed up her things and headed back to her room so that she could find some of her friends.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tina found herself lying on the beach enjoying the sun with her four best friends. She had spent the better part of the last year with her life in upheaval and was enjoying the quiet down time that she was finally receiving from this vacation.
She had just finished her masters degree in April and had jumped right into a fulltime job as a production assistant at an independent movie company. Giving her no time to take a break. It felt like the first time in months that she was finally able to think clearly and she had promised herself that she would take this time to figure her life out. She had found since she graduated that her life had not become the life that she thought she wanted. She loved her job and she loved her boyfriend but she just couldnt seem to shake the idea that something was wrong.
Tina had been seeing her boyfriend, Eric, since their freshman year of university. He had always been sweet and caring towards her trying to help out in any way that he could. After she had finished her graduate degree she moved out of her apartment and into one that she now shared with Eric. Then on the evening before she left for her vacation with her friends, only two months after moving in together, Eric planned a surprise romantic picnic for her and had asked Tina to marry him.
As soon as he asked her the question Tina knew that her answer was yes. But now with some time to think, and really not too much else to do while sitting soaking up the sun, she was beginning to doubt her decision. She knew she love Eric but she didnt know if the life that they would have together was the one she was ready to begin now. She felt that she was still too young to know for sure what she wanted.
Of course Tina hadnt told anyone how she felt. All of her friends thought that she and Eric had the perfect relationship and she didnt think that any of them would understand. So she let her thoughts plague her head as she basked in the morning sun.
With her mind racing Tina could not take it anymore and stood up to stretch and to take a look around for Karen, who had gotten to bed late the night before after staying out to all hours with someone she meet at the resort. Turning towards the bar she noticed a women staring in her direction. Although she couldnt be sure Tina felt the womans gaze upon her. From behind her sunglasses Tina took in the womens appearance. Her dark hair curled around her face and down her shoulders falling gently on her mocha skin which seemed even darker in contrast to the light blue bikini she was wearing. Tina jolted herself from her thoughts when she realized that she was starring at a woman so moved her eyes just past the woman and saw Karen making her way towards the group. Tina gave a quick wave to Karen and a glance back towards the woman. Before she knew is Karen was standing beside her and all the girls were talking again. When she turned back to look for the woman again Tina was surprised to feel disappointed that she wasnt there anymore.
