With a little help from my friends-Chapter 34

Alice woke up the next morning and reached across the bed “You’ve got to be ***** kidding me” she said quickly sitting up. “You ***** did it again?” she said looking around, she noticed a peice of paper sitting on the pillow.

    Al,

You looked to peacefull, I didn’t want to wake you up. Don’t worry, I didn’t run off again. I had to take my mom to the airport this morning. I realized that I am running out of money so I will be looking for a job today. Call me if you want to meet up later.

    Hugs, puppies and love,
    George

Alice smiled and set the note on the nightstand.

Bette was just getting out of the shower when Tina woke up. She put on her robe and walked into the bedroom.

Bette: “Good morning sleepy head” she said leaning down to give Tina a kiss.

Tina: “Mmm, good morning babe. What time is it?”

Bette: “um about eight thirty” she said glancing at the clock on her way to the dresser.

Tina: “*****, George is going to be here any minute” she said jumping out of bed

Bette: “Oh yeah, your moms leaving this morning huh?”

Tina: “Yeah, that two weeks went by faster than I thought they would”

Bette: “Im really glad I got to meet her. I think i’ll stop by the hotel with you on my way to work to say goodbye”

Tina: “She would like that” she smiled and planted a kiss on Bette

Just then Tina heard the front door open.

Tina: “*****, she’s here and im not ready, she’s going to *****” she said trying to roll her pregnant body quickly out of bed.

George: “Tina? Where are you? Don’t tell me your not up yet” she yelled as she survayed the quiet house “Bette? Ollie ollie oxen free”

Bette: “Don’t worry I will stall her” she said giving Tina a wink as she headed out into the living room. “Morning George”

George: “‘ello, miss Porter” she replied tipping an imaginary hat.

Bette: “It’s too early for you to be stoned” she said giving her an interogating look “why are you so chipper”

George was just about to reply when Tina peaked her head around the corner.

Tina: “I know why” she chimed in with a teasing manor.

George shot a look at Tina and said “right, time to go then. Ready?” as she turned for the door.

Bette and Tina smiled at eachother as they gathered their things.

Tina: “Bette is going to follow us so she can say goodbye to mom” she said as they headed to the car.

Everyone said their goodbyes and Kathy got safely onto the plane. The next few weeks flew by just as quickly as they approached. George was still too invloved with being a slacker so she took they easiest job she could find, she was a dishwasher at a hotel resturant down the street from her apartment. Bette and Tina continued to struggle with their doctors orders, so much that Bette sometimes had to sleep on the couch just to keep herself from touching Tina. Dana was finally starting to come around more now that her training was over and she finally had some down time, of course Tonya always tagged along. George and Alice decided that their relationship wasn’t going to be like everyone elses. If you were to see them in public you never would guess that they were even together, not even Bette and Tina knew what was exactly going on behind the scenes. The last thing George wanted to be was a PDA offender. They did spent most of their alone time together

Alice was sitting at her usual table at the Planet reading the paper when she noticed the chiar across from her being pulled out. “Hey hot stuff” she said without looking up.

    Dana: “hot stuff?”

Alice: “Dana? What are you doing here?”

Dana: “Don’t we still meet here for coffee?”

Alice: “yeah, we do. I just expecting..nevermind” she said franticly trying to change the subject, she didn’t want to tell Dana about her relationship with George just because it felt too akward. “So what’s up, where’s the ball and chain?”

Dana: “Funny Alice. Nothing I just miss not seeing you guys so much.”

Alice: “Yeah, we missed you too” she said before an uncomfortable silence fell

Dana: “So do you think im doing the wrong thing?” she said finally breaking it.

Alice: “What by wearing that shirt?”

Dana: “No” she snapped then looked down at her shirt “What’s wrong with my shirt?”

    Alice: “Nothing”

Dana: “Can we talk about something?”

Alice: “Sure, What’s on your mind?”

Dana: “I want to talk about that night. The night you kissed me”

Alice knew that statement was coming and she had been dreading everyday

Alice: “We already talked about it remember, I told you to forget about it. There’s really nothing to talk about” she said in a defensive tone.

Dana: “Yeah, I know. The problem is..I can’t really forget about it” she said shyly

Alice sat in slience with a million thoughts running through her head and Dana sat uncomfortably for a reply. Luckly for Alice she spotted Bette and Tina walking through the door and quickly jumped up to greet them.

Alice: “Hey guys, woah look out here comes the belly” she said dramaticly moving out of the way for Tina.

Tina: “When are you going to stop calling me that?” she barked as she sat down

Alice: “When that child finally burst out of you”

Dana, Tina and Bette all looked at Alice with scrunched faces.

    Bette: “That’s a disturbing thought”

Tina: “Yeah it is” she said shaking her head “but I know what you mean, I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas already, i’ve been pregnant for eight months and twelve days”

Dana: “Your even counting the days?”

Tina: “Yeah” she said wondering why that might seem rediculous

Bette: “So where’s George? She’s not at work already is she?”

Tina: “Speak if the devil” she said noticing George walking over to the table.

George slightly nodded to everyone and dragged a chair over to the table and ploped down then continued to remain quiet. By the look on her face Tina knew something was up, she could tell if she was angry or thinking.

Alice: “Uh, why do you insist on wearing that” she said pointing at George who was sporting jeans almost two sizes too big, a black element sweatshirt and a vintage red and blue puffy vest. “I feel like I should gas up the delorian and send you back in time with doc and Marty McFly” she continued as she directed her focas on the vest.

George gave her a cold stare and stood up “I didn’t know the ***** fashion police were patroling here today” she said slightly under her breath as she made her way to the counted. Everyone sat in silence and watched her walk away.

Alice: “What the ***** was that all about?” she said throwing her hands on the table

Tina: “I don’t know but im going to find out” she said angerly and walked over to meet George at the counter. “What’s going on with you?”

George: “Ah Christ, nothing im fine”

Tina: “Yeah ok George, it’s not like we are related or anything, you’ve never been a ***** for no reason.”

George: “Nice Tina” she said picking up her coffee and her skateboard “I gotta go” she continued then stepped around Tina and headed out the door.
