    Secrets and Lies-Ch14 Pt.3.

Unfortunately the wrong person interrupted her thinking and she couldnt hold back.

Shane? Tabitha asked tentatively, placing her hand lightly on Shanes shoulder.

She spun round, shaking off Tabitha’s hand in the process. Tabitha hadnt known how to approach Shane, whether shed be angry, sad or what. Now she knew, now she was looking into her eyes all her fears became real, all her questions were answered. Shane looked as if her heart had been ripped out and shown to her. The deep brown eyes which used to look into Tabithas with desire and love, now only mirrored her own in sadness and hurt. Words seemed inadequate at that moment.

Tabitha had never meant for any of this, she never planned to even become involved with Shane. Let alone fall head over heels in love with her. And now her secrets were rearing their ugly heads to stab her in the back. Just when she thought something in her life had started to go right, she was now watching it crumble to pieces at her feet. She cursed Robyn, blaming the situation on her and her big mouth, even though deep down she knew she had brought all of this on herself.

    Shane, please let me explain.

She shook her head and avoided the green eyes pleading desperately with her. It was harder than Shane had imagined; turning away from Tabitha, pushing away any hope of a relationship.

I dont want to hear it, I thought you were different but youre not. I felt as though I could tell you anything Tabitha, and I thought you felt the same, I thought we had something. she paused, looking down at her shoes her heart braking in her chest. But it was all a lie. she met Tabithas eyes, both women fighting hard to stop the tears.

No. Tabitha grabbed Shanes arm and shook her slightly. I didnt tell you because I knew this would happen.

Tabitha pulled her close, trying to force her reasoning into Shane, trying desperately to right her wrong.

What didnt you tell me Tabitha? I feel like I dont know you, youre just a stranger to me now.

She let go of Shanes arm, the words stinging like an open wound. She stepped back, hugging herself in an attempt to find some comfort. Tears ran down her cheeks, her bottom lip wobbled, dangerously close to cracking up. She had lost all hope, in one night all her fears had come true, she had irrevocably destroyed anything which her and Shane could of had. And there was nothing she could do about it.

Im sorry. she whispered, still holding Shanes gaze.

Both women took one last look into the eyes of something which could have been so breathtakingly special. Shane gave in and let the tears spill down her cheeks, she never cried, she couldn’t even remember the last time she had cried. All she wanted to do was fall into Tabitha’s arms and have everything be all right again, but it was too late for that now.

Tabitha took two more steps back, unable to brake Shanes hold on her. Then she saw the tears and her heart leapt foreword, begging her to take Shane into her arms and hold her. Hold her until all of this became just a distant memory and they only thing which was left was their love and they discovered a place where nothing could ruin their happiness. But these thoughts were now a distant dream, Tabitha resonated herself to the reality of the situation and took a deep breath. Before turning and walking away.

Shane, wheres Tabby going? Alices voice sounded so far away, Shane didnt even register her standing next to her, all she could do was watch Tabitha disappear into the club.

    Hello? Earth to Shane?

Alice shook her friend, motioning for Dana to come over and help.

Shane snapped out of her trance and quickly wiped her wet cheeks, not wanting either of her friends to see her that vulnerable.

Woah, Shane please do not tell me you just let that girl go?

Shane avoided their eyes, biting down on her lip to stop herself from crying again. Alice put her arm over Shanes shoulders and pulled her into a hug.

Ok, so you let her go. She lied to you its only right that you should be upset.

Dana was confused, her troubled frown spread across her pretty features as she watched Alice comfort Shane.

Hang on, if Tabitha never told Shane then she wasnt lying at all. Just withholding information. Which if you ask me I would certainly keep to myself, I mean a ***** with a baby. She must find it really hard to get dates.

Alice and Shane turned to look at Dana, who was unaware that her inner monologue spoken out loud would actually mean anything.

What? she asked as the two women proceeded to stare at her.

Dane, in future just don’t say anything. Alice suggested, rolling her eyes at her friends lack of sensitivity.

No, Al shes right. Shane said. For once.

Alice looked sceptical but Dana smiled proudly, happy her input was appreciated by one of her friends at last.

Shane was having an epiphany, she knew why Tabitha hadn’t told her. It was exactly what Dana had said, if Tabitha had told Shane when theyd first met that she had a baby Shane probably would have probably ran a mile. She hated herself to admit it but she had a rule of no baggage, emotional or physical. She liked to keep her love life simple, no complications, no distractions. Well it wasn’t really a love life, more of a sexual convenience life. Then that all changed when she fell into Tabithas beautiful eyes, never had she wanted to get so close to anyone before, and not just physically close. Shane realised she wasn’t upset with Tabitha for not telling her about the baby, but she was upset because she had wanted to share her whole life with Tabitha, share every memory, ever moment. Any hint that Tabitha didnt feel the same way hurt her so deeply because it left her feeling so utterly vulnerable. Which wasn’t an emotion very familiar to Shane. But Tabitha did feel the same, she had known that the first time shed looked into her eyes, there was something; a whispered hint of an emotion, barely audible but still there tumbling over itself to get out, to get said, to be heard.

She looked up at Dana and Alice, a smile curling up the corners of her mouth. Alice and Dana glanced at each other in confusion, then looked back to Shane.

I love you guys! she said, unexpectedly pulling both women into a crushing hug.

Alice gasped for breath and patted Shane on the back, trying to push her away so she could breath.

We love you too Shane, now go get that hot lady of yours!

Shane let them go and headed off out of the club, turning back to offer a wave of good bye as Dana and Alice just stood there, smiles plastered across their faces in shock.

    Well, that was entertaining.

Alice laughed and placed a hand on Danas back, steering her back towards the table.

What do you say we get stupidly drunk?

    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Shane ran, once she got out of the club she ran so fast her heart burned and her legs ached, but still she ran. She didnt even notice it was raining until it started to come down heavy, lashing her in the face in refreshing waves. As she neared the street Tabitha had said she lived on she slowed down to a jog and got out her phone. Luckily she had Tabithas number on speed dial. She pressed the call button and stopped outside a closed convenience store, her hair was plastered to her face and the rain was dripping off her face in rivers. But Shane didnt care, all she could think about was seeing Tabitha, telling her how she felt and taking the beautiful woman back into her arms.

A frown creased her brow as the ringing continued, her heart sank a little. It wasn’t very likely that Tabitha would be answering her phone after what happened that night. It cut to the answer machine a few rings later and Shane waited patiently to leave a message.

Tabby, its Shane. Im sorry for acting like a *****. Im outside on the street, I dont know where you live on this street but Im going to just sit down here and wait for you to get this message. she paused, desperately wanting to tell her how she felt, but an answering machine was certainly not where Shane was going to spill her heart out to maybe the first woman shed ever loved. Ok, Ill be waiting.

She shoved her phone back into her pocket and sat down on the very wet side walk. Every item of clothing she was wearing was completely soaked and as she sat out in the cold and waited as the shivers began to rack her body.
