The Roommates: Chapter 35
Previously ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why is it that Im never enough? I try and try and try to do the right thing and I always seem to ***** up. I just cant get it right. I tried to be true to youthat was wrong. I tried to be honest with you.you hit me. I tried to end it with youTina hates me. I try to give you closureIm wrong., said Bette, tears streaming down her cheeks.
As she spoke, a pair of loving arms suddenly wrapped themselves around her shoulders and held her close. Bette knew this touch, this scent, this woman. Her eyes closed and her body relaxed against Tinas embrace. The love of her life hugged her tightly from behind, nuzzling her head against Bettes soft brown hair, whispering soothing words in her ear.
Sidney was glued to her seat as she watched this scene unfold.
Tinas eyes were closed as she rocked Bette slowly, seeming to absorb her pain. Im never enough, T. Why is it that Im never enough? I can never get it right., she sobbed, her body still shaking.
Tina moved to Bettes side and soon she and Bette were facing each other, their knees meeting as they both straddled the bench seat of the lunch table. Tina drew Bettes head to her chest and whispered sweet words to her as she ran her hands lovingly down her back, slowly rocking this broken spirit from side to side.
The love and tenderness in this embrace was hard to miss. Tina had instinctively known that Bette needed her. She had known that Bette was upset and hurting. Bette had instinctively known Tinas touch. Her heart had been crying for this beautiful woman and Tina had answered her call.
Sidney realized that both women were oblivious to her presence and she slowly began to move away. As she watched this scene one final time before leaving the room, Sidney finally understood. She finally got it. Tina really was Bettes other half. Tina was where Bette belonged. The finality of her relationship with Bette finally hit her and a few tears fell from her eyes as she realized what she would miss. But Sidney had seen it with her own eyes. There was no room for her. Tina owned Bettes heart and she couldnt compete with that.

MTS, it’s not fair to other writers that you give us sentences like this: “And so they sat there, in the dining room of Reiber Hall, with Tina’s loving touch and soothing whispers infusing Bette with the reassurance and calmness needed to replenish her downtrodden and broken spirit.” I mean, really. How could you put together words any more perfectly? Geez. Simply wonderful use of language.
I hope all of you who were so scathing about Sidney can let up a little. Not that Sid’s my gal, but for the sake of rounding her out, I’m glad that you made her compassionate in this chapter. Thanks for another marvelous read.
