    BETTE
    In Bettes mind, at least she and Tina had each other. Together they could go out and fight the homophobia that threatened their lives and relationship. Leaning on each other for support and knowing that at the end of the day, they had each other and no obstacle was too big to keep them apart. Nothing was too threatening to keep them from loving each other and sharing their lives together. What Bette hadnt counted on was the internal threat to their union; Tinas own self-hate and internalized homophobia and fear. Bette felt as if she now had to fight two battles; one in her relationship and one outside her relationship. And not only that, but she was fighting both battles alone.

    TINA
    Tinas Mom: Well, that Valerie Simmons looked at me as if Id spoken the name of the devil. She said she and her husband wont take Veronicas calls. They dont want anything to do with that kind of lifestyle. And I dont blame her. There is just no excuse for that homosexual behavior. None at all. Its like a poison. Coming into the community and ruining our young people. Im just so proud of you, Tina for not getting into that stuff. I mean, Veronica was here all the time when you girls were young. Im just so glad you didnt fall into that mess. Im so proud of you. Youre getting your degree and really growing up. Youre just doing so great, honey.

    The world was now blurry through Tinas teary eyes. Her mother was referring to homosexuality as if it was some incurable, infectious, debilitating disease. What Tracy didnt know was that she was insulting and demeaning her own child, her own flesh and blood. She didnt know that Tina had fallen in love with Bette Porter. She didnt know that Tina was enjoying a love that was pure, innocent, fulfilling, and destined. She didnt know that her words ate away at Tinas resolve, self-esteem, and sense of worth. Tracy Kennard did not realize that her prejudice was breaking her baby girl down, little by little.

    1. The struggles within Bette and Tina relationship are so real…My heart is breaking for them both…I’m glad that their love is strong enough to see them through. I can’t wait ’til T come out to her parents. Thanks.

How do you do this to me with every chapter…somehow you just unlock something in me and totally make me so emotional!! =)I pray that Bette can hang in there and be strong enough for both herself and Tina. Now our girl Tina, she has to deal with her demons. If she wants love as great as the one she shares with Bette, then she has to learn to fight for it;) I believe love can conquer all…I just hope its enough for our girls.     11. i have to agree with the other commenters – the story does seem to improve with every posting! i’m getting pissed at tina, though, i wanna slap her upside the head and say, “wtf, you’re with BETTE! how could you not be PROUD of that?!” – so, needless to say i’m really into this story lol one of my favorites! :D

    12. The closeted nature of their relationship juxtaposed with the display she’ll need to make for Damon’s parents is sure to send Bette into the Twilight Zone.
      I hope she can stand the dissonance.
      My heart aches for them. I hope they can work it out and be able to express their love freely in public.
