    this last time (XIV)

Pacing up and down close to the car, Bette sighed. Seated on the porchs stairs, Tina smiled.

“You ok?” Tina asked, seeing Bette trying to breath.

Looking up, locking her eyes with Tinas, Bette shyly smiled,

“Yeah!…I dont know whats taking them so long!” She said walking towards Tina. Sitting at her side, she added,

    “You sure you ok?”

Nodding, caressing her belly, Tina smiled again.

“Yeah…Dr Wilson said we are ok…the contractions are still quite apart…we are ok”

Unable to look at Bette without touching her, Tina caressed Bettes pale features. Closing her eyes, moved by the tender gesture, getting lost every time Tina touched her, Bette sighed again. Opening her eyes again, she rested her hand on Tinas belly.

    “I…I”

“I know” Whispered Tina caressing Bettes hand. Looking at each other quietly, trying to read their minds, they got lost in each others eyes. Trying to remember old tricks, building new secrets, they smiled in unison. Shyly, Bette nodded, slowly leaning to rest the head on Tinas shoulder. Feeling Bette relaxing on her shoulder, knowing, without needing to look at her, that she was closing her eyes, Tina asked,

    “Where did you go?”

Lightly moving apart to look at Tina, Bette mumbled,

    “When?”

    “This morning…after the letter…”

“Oh…I went to the beach…” Bette said, caressing Tinas hand again.

Nodding, Tina sighed. Lightly, very delicately, she turned the head to look away briefly. Sighing again, she whispered looking at Bette again,

“What did you think I was talking about?”

Locking her eyes with Tinas, holding her stare, Bette whispered after a deep sigh.

“I thought you meant yesterday…with Lee”

Nodding, feeling jealousy all over her body, Tina gulped. Wanting to change the topic she shook her head as if throwing scared images away.
Taking Tinas hand, tightening it, Bette sweetly whispered,

    “You can ask me…”

Turning to look at Bette, Tina opened her mouth to ask but no words came out. Without losing sight of Tinas face, realizing what was going on in her head, Bette sweetly kiss her on the lips before saying.

    “I showed her the view…your view…”

Holding Bettes stare, Tina let her body, her mind process Bettes words. “her view”. That could only mean, the mansions view. Nodding, not sure if that was the answer she wanted to hear, Tina tried to smile, doing it badly, unable to fake what she was feeling.

“I wanted to feel close to you, wanted to try to explain to her what you mean to me…” Bette said trying to explain herself, finding difficult to do it without messing things up, without saying something Tina could misinterpreted.

“Why?” Tina asked leaning her head backwards, her eyes closed, letting the sun warm her insecurities.

“Why?…..because she noticed the look on my face after I talked with you…because…I guess am not a good actress…I…I told her we were having a baby…”

“You told her…” Tina mumbled, as a secret not as a question. Unable to look at Bette, not yet, she was getting comfort in her tender caresses.

    “Yeah…” Bette proudly whispered, smiling.

Resting the head on Tinas shoulder again, Bette closed her eyes. Noticing Tinas scent, the soft touch of her hair messing with her face, she smiled. Sighing, full of happiness, she smiled widely. Feeling the sun caressing her face, she wished she could stop the time. She wanted to savoir the moment, the precious little moments she now knew how to cherish. Sharing the morning breeze, being able to talk with Tina felt like a precious moment, like a memory worth to hide. Opening the eyes, playing with Tinas fingers in hers, Bette nonchalantly asked,

“Did you know she is *****?”

Surprised by the question, Tina moved to be able to look at Bette. Trying to read her face, she said,

“Of course I did…” Noticing the confused look on Bettes, how she was slowly blushing, Tina asked, unable to stop the smile growing on her face,

“Why?…you…You didnt?…how come you didnt?…come on!…she could not stop staring at you!” Tina said, regretting voicing her fears the moment the words hit the air.

“What?, she did not!…when?” Bette asked, confused, trying to remember.

Shaking her head, loving the look on Bettes face, finding exhilarating seeing Bette so nave, so clueless, Tina leaned forward to kiss Bette on the lips. But Bette, still lost in the memories, trying to remember the look on Lees face, suddenly screamed looking at the road,

    “Here they are!”

Standing up, she helped Tina to stand up. Walking toward the street, Bette waved.

“What did it take you so long?” She asked her friends.

“We…I…we…we were sort of busy…” Mumbled Alice opening the door, but then as she was trying to jump out of the car to help Tina and Bette, she remembered Dana handcuffed to her.

    “*****!” She said.

“What?” Asked Bette, trying to open the door.

Rising their hands, Alice showed what the problem was. Blushing widely, Dana tried not to look at her friends. Tina, laughing, jumped into the car.

“Wont ask…” she whispered to a mortified Dana

Nodding, Dana looked ahead while Alice, looking back, winked at Tina while Bette, keeping her wounded hand up, was getting into the car.

“So?…where to go?” Alice asked making a funny face.

“Al!” Screamed a not in the mood Bette

“Ok ok…is not like someone is in labour….by the way…what happened to your hand Bette?”

“Nothing…”Bette said, looking trough the window, trying not to look at the blood soaked towel covering her hand.

“Ok” Nodded Alice turning the engine on.

Ouch!” said Tina, holding her belly as another contraction was coming.

“You ok?” Asked a scared Dana trying to turn around but finding it impossible as Alice was driving.

“Hey!…Careful!” Alice said trying to drive and peek what was going on, at the same time.

“You ok?” Whispered Bette, clumsily caressing Tinas belly with her left hand.

    “Yeah…”breathed Tina, trying to compose.

“Breath deep Tee…deep…”Dana said, breathing profusely, clumsily moving her hands in the air, making Alice almost lost balance of the wheel.

    Smiling, Alice looked at Dana.

“Yeah…breathe deep… Tee” She added with a teased tone. Dana, reading Alices mind, blushed harder than before.

“By the way…what were you doing at Bettes?”Alice asked pretending to sound nonchalant.

Blushing, Tina threw a killer look to Alice, trying to quiet her, while Bette, not only mortified but feeling her wounded hands pain, was looking through the window.

Seeing that her friends were not talking, Alice nonchalantly said,

“Dane…you know the article I wrote about the joy of parenthood?

“Yeah.. Dana said nodding, having no idea what Alice was talking about.

“Well…is a fact that, apart from spicy food and long walks, what doctors recommend to pregnant women is *****…”

“What?” Asked Dana, Bette and Tina in unison.

“Yeah…apparently when they want them to be in labour…***** accelerates the process…”

Alice proudly added, noticing the effect her words were having.

Smiling, Tina nodded but then, noticing the even paler look on Bettes face, she whispered, tightening Bettes left hand.

    “It wasnt you…”

Turning to look at Tina, Bette whispered,

    “How you know?…”

Nodding, leaning forward, forgetting about their friends, Tina kissed Bette sweetly on the lips.

“Because I was feeling funny way before we..I…”

“Oh god…” Bette mumbled closing her eyes, feeling dizzy. The images of their love making coming all together, moving fast in her mind, running through her body, making breathing even more difficult.

Smiling, seeing the look on Bettes face, founding her not just too cute but funny, Tina added,

“Am ok…am sure I am…the baby is ok too…dont worry, ok?”

Listening to their friends talk, Dana and Alice smiled, happy.

“Sooo.oook!…we are almost there…”. She said pointing the hospital at the end of the street.

“Al!” screamed Dana moved by Alice gesture.

    “Sorry Dane” Alice shrugged.

Parking the car, she added turning to look at her friends,

“Bette you dont look too well…”

“Thanks…I know!” Bette said, trying to open her door. Jumping outside she waited for Tina to walk to her side.

“Ok, we are going to park this baby…” Alice said patting her mini”…Good luck Tee! Will see you inside…” She added, winking at Tina
