"They call this entertainment?"
“Of sorts.”
“But this is dull,” Helena whined.
“Well who invited themselves over?”
“You told me to come over.”
“I was being facetious,” Bette noted with an eye roll.
“Well I beg your pardon. Shall I leave then?” Helena half stood from the couch.
“You’re already here,” Bette shrugged.
“But do you want me here?”
“Like I said. You’re already here.”
“I still can’t believe you watch this. I mean surely this is the dullest sport in history. And you must be their only fan! A secret curling fan!”
“Be quiet,” Bette requested.
Helena tried. She tried very hard to be quiet. She remained silent for over ten minutes before she had to speak.
“It’s curling, Bette! Sweeping at ice with brooms! With brooms! On ice!”
Bette sighed and flicked off the television.
“Thanks for ruining that for me,” she muttered leaning back and sighing.
Helena eyed her for a moment.
“Can’t I want your undivided attention?” she asked quietly.
Bette glanced at her out of the corner of her eye.
“I don’t see why you’d want my attention.”
“I’m sure you don’t,” Helena murmured.
“Besides the fact that you came here uninvited and ruined the only sport I watch, what brings you by?”
“That’s not a sport, Bette. It’s like watching the proverbial paint dry.”
“It’s calming. And it makes me laugh.”
“By all means then. Do continue. I won’t say another word. I swear,” Helena said solemnly.
“No. It’s fine,” Bette waved her off.
“Is Angelica here?” Helena asked looking around the livingroom.
“Why?” Bette asked slightly suspicious.
“Curious is all. I haven’t seen her in a bit. How’s she been?”
“She’s here. She’s napping. She was cranky for most of the morning and finally wore herself out throwing tantrums. It’s a good thing I decided to stay inside today. Tina’s going to come pick her up Monday and then I won’t get to see her until Thursday. Of course I can go by Tina’s but—I don’t know if I will. Besides I’ll be busy this week with classes and meetings. Busy week ahead. I’ll miss Angelica though. Today she—“
Helena reached over and trailed her fingers along Bette’s jawline.
“You’re rambling,” Helena noted.
Bette shifted slightly but didn’t move away from Helena’s touch.

Its unfair! You ended it like this! Leaving me wanting for more! Speedy! URGH! Great writing! Fabulous! Btw I do think curling is rather interesting to watch. Have you seen a curler (is that what you call them?)? They’re butts are really firm. hehe.
Why oh why does this have to be only one chapter?? You do write them very well. And, I too admit to enjoying curling. What can I say, I grew up with a Canadian mother and there was this big athetic center two blocks from my grandparents house where I could watch them curl to my hearts content!!! Thanks!

Wow, what a FANTASTIC start for a new story, Speedy. I truly love this ! This was both hilarious ( I wholeheartedly agree with Helena : curling must be THE dullest sport ever invented… On the other hand, it’s soooo ridiculous it’s funny … At least, for the first few minutes ) and absolutely charming.So this is a sequel to ” Compatible “, right ? I mean, I assume the previous kiss they were referring to was the one they shared in “Compatible”, right ?Anyway, I love the fact that Helena can make Bette so nervous ( she was definitely rambling there to try and hide her ” embarrassment ” ) and soooo bold the minute after.I find this Bette to be very cute, not to mention very engaging.Miss Porter and Helena Fu**ing Peabody are definitely compatible, I’m telling you. LOL !Besides, their witty banter and playfulness remains one of the most enjoyable reading experiences I’ve ever had in fanfictionland ( especially when YOU are the author, Speedy ). Hats off to you ! I’m really looking forward to your next chapter.
I’m a Canadian who concurs with Helena on the curling, although Bette is right that it’s a calming sport: it puts most people to sleep! And stand-alone or not, please just continue the Belena stories in whatever form you want because, in your hands, this pairing is a delight.

Hey S_R, Am loving this fresh take on Bette and Helena. There is a real sense of desire between them. Both gals are trying to deny it and just be playful around it. This passion is slow to ignite but will burn brightly. I can’t wait to see how the gals hold onto their delusions before surcoming to the inevitable. Bring it on and let them loose. Hello Speed_Racer,I must say after reading both “Compatible” and “Invite” I have found my own creative Muse reawaken after a long slumber. Both stories are excellent, your ability to capture the complex nature of these two characters. I really do hope that you will continue to explore this relationship as you seem to have a good grasp on how to move them into an engaging couple.Plus I love Helena with Angelica it just seems really cozy.Sincerely,JC

this was a terrific chapter. i, too, enjoy curling. it’s very peaceful and relaxing somehow, watching them glide gracefully (or not so gracefully, across the ice). i had a canadian father …
I don’t want to sound repetitive, but it was amazing!!!! Personally, I don’t like curling, but I would love to watch it with Bette.. =P
