Chapter 49: Life is full of surprises (Bette and Tina’s quest is almost over)
(Previously) The old man looked at Bette’s puffy eyes and said kindly, “I hope your troubles will go away or I would have to call on my master and ask him to protect you from any harm. You’re both so beautiful and if I could have ever learned to paint, I would immortalize you both for centuries to come. Alas…” he smiled, “All I can do is to admire the beauty, even when it’s unfinished.”
He turned around and started to walk back towards the door when Bette exclaimed loudly as if she had an epiphany, “Wait. Excuse me…what did you just say?”
Tina was holding her breath for the reason unknown even to her when the old man turned around and said, “Oh…I’m sorry if I offended you, ladies. All I meant is that you both are such exquisite women, worthy of a masterpiece…and believe me…I’ve lived long enough to know what an exquisite woman is…”
“No, you didn’t offend us,” Bette interrupted quickly, “Thank you…it’s really flattering…” she smiled friendly. “What did you mean by unfinished beauty?”

Place: Chapel Hill, NC – local school
Year: March 10, 2006 – Friday
“Well…last fall I was working the night shift and I had to take the garbage out as usual to prepare everything for the next day pick up. It was getting dark so I was carrying a flashlight. I knew my way pretty well but my eyes are not as sharp as they used to be anymore. I usually use the light for the road ahead of me so I wouldn’t stumble on something.”
The old man motioned for them to follow him and headed for the door that he came out of earlier. He began walking toward the garbage containers while talking as if he was re-enacting his actions for them.
“That night was darker than usual and I had to strain my eyes, following the dancing light on the pavement. Suddenly, my light caught something unusual,” the old man said dramatically and stopped, making a surprising face as if he saw something. It was comical in a way he was acting but both Bette and Tina were too involved in this show-and-tell story that they just looked at each other and smiled, waiting for the rest of the story.

i was busting my mind trying to figure out who’s great grandson the guy is and i think its tina and bette’s son or one of thier relatives…
How lucky am I–I return from being MIA in the FF world to find another chapter welcoming me. So who’s the custodian? Just whisper it to me. I won’t tell anyone….this was another great chapter. I am so intriqued about where you are headed and how you will get there. Post when you can.I’ll try my best to be patient.

I have a question. The old man mentioned something about his own great grandmother. Who is this great grandmother and is she and the old man related to Bette or Tina?
This story is getting more and more exciting with every new chapter. Well, of course I have always found it very enthralling, but this chapter was particularly gripping. Great job, BetteandTinaforever !! I just can’t wait to read more !!!
