Sugar and Spice ~ Chapter 14
Author Note, Part Two [THE ACTUAL STORY STARTS ON PAGE 5]
[See warning above]
There is a starting point, something that it is important to know: I live in the most schizophrenic neighborhood in the United States. Not literally, of course. I am not trying to minimize the tragic medical illness. It’s just that I can’t think of a way to describe it without falling back on that trite reference.
I could go on forever with stories and observations and have considered moving B&T here so that I could lure readers into a fan fic that would hide my self-indulgent rants.
I need to set the baseline. First, logistics: 20 blocks = 1 mile. Second, atmosphere: every 2 blocks there is a cell phone store, every 3 blocks there is a children’s clothing or toy shop, and every 4 blocks there is a pet supply shop.
You also need an example of this bizarre universe:
A couple of years ago, the same $27 toddler red T-shirt was displayed for sale in several children’s clothing stores.
Now, a toddler in a growth spurt can, overnight, outgrow a t-shirt purchased the day before. I know this from personal experience. Child-sized hangars in our closets where lots of personal experiences hang, tags still attached. (I am a slow learner.)
You probably think that the bizarre part of the story is that a toddler’s t-shirt was $27. HAH!!!!! That, or its cultural equivalent, is something that would occur in extravagant neighborhoods around the world. It is amateurish bizarreness.
In my neighborhood, a truly truly bizarre universe, the $27 red toddler t-shirts were emblazoned with a picture of Che Guevara.
So now I have given some context.
This is sort of a Valentine’s Day story. It is not about cell phones or children. It is about a neighborhood dog.
There are only two kinds of dogs in my neighborhood: very very expensive pedigree pups and shelter dogs. Probably a 60/40 split.
For several years, I had a very elderly dog. Since she joined the family prior to our move to this neighborhood, she was a plain old pedigree, the dog that I had always wanted and could never have with my work schedule when I lived alone. She was a present from my partner on my first birthday after we had been together for a year, and my partner adorably promised that she would always take care of it when I traveled, even if we ever broke up. However, for reasons that would be a completely separate story that only I would find amusing, my precious doggy became a very well-known canine in our new neighborhood. Despite her many charms, however, she isn’t a character in this story.

Super super cute! The Spotlight is so well deserved. I still think about the wolves that raised Tina. Than you Spumoni.

I really enjoyed this story more than I thought I would. Sad to see it end, but I thought that you would put them together at their age, but would bring the story to the future on Valentine’s Day, oh well can’t have everything. NEED AN UPDATE TO ‘BACKSTORY’.
This is such a cute story. Thanks for updating. Made me smile the whole time.
OK, first of all, you are frickin crazy!! Second of all, this was the cutest damn story! You kill me and I can’t wait until you post again. I really wanted to hate the wolf stories but found myself laughing and looking forward to reading more. You are a joy and I thank you for all of your stories; some crazy, some not. Please continue to share your crazy thoughts with us and bringing laughter and joy to the world through your writing.
I have to take a break for dinner after that epic Author’s Note #2. I’m serious, please get yourself over to Livejournal and just write about fucking anything. I’ll read it. So what kind of dog was it, anyway? And here’s some Celtic holidays: Samhain, Imbolc, Beltaine, and Lughnasa. Let’s not forget the solstices and the equinoxes. Groundhog’s Day, Arbor Day, Doughnut Day.
“Won’t we catch germs?” “I don’t think you catch germs when you’re forever and ever.” LOL!
“So we should now?” – “Yeah. Come here.” – So Bette did. – ha! loved it
Well Spumoni, we’ve penetrated to the heart of sugar and survived. Not an easy task for the cynic, perhaps harder still for someone wearing an insulin pump (yup, type 1 diabetic here). Except when you are the guide. I found I really preferred Bette and Tina as children to almost any story centered on their making babeez. I guess that means I prefer saccharine to schmaltz. Or maybe it’s just a testament to your talent. Don’t make me have to kick your ass to post for us, cause you know I will.
Thanks for another wonderful story. Waiting now to update your other stories.
1. B&T story so f***ing cute and adorable…lots of gems in there, including Tina’s first “Come here”…loved it, loved, loved it…2) The author’s note was absolutely hilarious, you should write a book or a blog or anything about your own adventures, because your words are just magic
This was a darling of a story. I love sweet, lovable stories with happy endings. The authors note was very interesting. I have two cats one who is quite jealous of the new one. Maybe some advice from you may save the carpet from her daily use as a liter box. How is Tina’s wolf family coming along?
Forever and ever. So cute! Thanks for sharing this story with us. :-)
Excellent and super sweet and cute. Thank you for this wonderful feel good story.
Spumoni, you are absolutely precious! Thank you!!
Well what can I say that everyone else hasn’t said? Nothing really. It was wonderful, cute and adorable and I love your writing. You’re a funny woman. Thanks for keeping me laughing and smiling.
Awww, what a sweet, happy ending. And they shared their first Eskimo kiss and germ-free, forever-and-ever kiss. Suhweet! Will there be an epilogue decades into their forever and ever? That will certainly up this story’s already high sugar level. Thanks a lot for this generous serving of fluff, Spumoni! Btw, do you know what makes your kilometric author notes so funny? You tell anecdotes in such great detail, in an elaborate but not frilly fashion. You build up the story, making me anticipate for a big bang ending. But when you get to the ending–POOF! The anecdote ends just like that without a hint of fanfare. It’s like you end your notes with a shrug. But your notes, your writing never fail to entertain, Spumoni. Thanks a lot for making me smile, chuckle and smirk, sometimes all at the same time. =) Cheers!
very cute and fluffy :)

:D :D :D you never fail to amaze me!
some things never change.. you are absolutely AWESOME! love love love anything you write :)
Darn it! I forgot about one more thing in my novel. 6. You’re adorable. “Won’t we catch germs?” “No, you don’t catch germs if it’s forever and ever”
I, like you, have to claim multiple parts for the many things clamoring to burst out of me right now: 1. I told you I’d read it! I just don’t want to until you finish it. I can’t help it that the whole Jodi/Bette foreverandever (well, until Jodi croaks) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And Tina picked Angelica, so the angel names for the kids also kinda creep me out a bit. I can’t help it, I’m human and there’s no other TLW couple for me than Tibette (ok, there’s a corner of my heart for… wait for it… Shina? Tane? Call them what you will, but I think Shane/Tina could work. In lieu of this clearly mythical pairing, I accept Danish and Carmen/Shane, whose ship name I’m not sure I ever knew, but it’s too late to worry about it. Oh wait, Sharmen. Sharmen it is. But anyway, Tibette all the way). But because I heart you and your stories, I promised to read it once it’s complete. 2. Holy redonkulous Author Note, Batman! That could have easily been a chapter of one of your many stories, and you complain too much about your slow typing skills to be spending valuable typing minutes on anything other than Tibette (or, you know, amusing me with long stories of Valentine’s Day embarrassments past and your long-suffering partner’s clear saint-like streak). 3. Have I told you yet how much I love TeenageKitTM? (It’s like Brown Barbie, but better). Because I lurve her. She owns my heart. Actually, if you could include a time machine in THAT story, and somehow include a TeenageKitTM, I may be more likely to wander on to it by mistake and read it. What can I say? I’m easily swayed. 4. I’ve always felt like your Tibette universes are the truth. Even the ones that contradict each other are the truth, just in alternate universes (well, except for THAT story. That’s just a nightmare that Bette had after she got on the plane and realized that she was leaving Tina behind to be with a woman that… well… simply wasn’t Tina). This time, though, I admit to being thrown off. There’s no way Melvin Porter would name his precious baby Kensington. No way, no how. Bette’s middle name must exude a) Femeninity, b) Arrogance and c)… actually, I don’t know. But femeninity and a certain haughtiness are required. I imagine he would have continued the powerful queen trait and called her Victoria. Elizabeth Victoria, after powerful women (Kit got Catherine the Great, but obviously that K corrupted the process or something). If you think about it, poor little Bette had no choice but to be a mean bitch. It’s an Elizabeth thing. What that says about me, though… Ewww. I think I may be doomed to adultery. And not even pretty adultery. 5. Have you ever known that you’re my hero? And everything I would like to be? Yeah, that’s apropos of nothing, but I just wanted to give you something that tells you how much I loved this story. Thank you!!! (Oh, and I’d like to see some Bronwyn again. Mull that over. I’m not really going to push, because I’ve got a fic that has been tumbling around in my head for about 6 months, and there’s a million snippets written and yet, it may never see the light of day, so no pushing. But if inspiration strikes…. OOOOOOHHH! Bronwyn/TeenageKitTM! Perfection!)
This was a most delightful story and I have enjoyed it from the first word till the end. Their love will last forever and ever. Sweet. Your authors notes were so doggone funny. I do believe you could write the phone book and make me laugh. If you are not you should be writing for a living. I know I’d buy anything you put down on paper. Just freaking hilarious. Thank you so much for entertaining us with all your writing. What happened to the wolf family?
God..wow?…i never…i think?…wow?..god did i make any sense?…cuz.. i think i’m not?..this one story i didn’t want to end..and didn’t know what happen when they’re grown ups.. But at the same time..i want to leave them just as is…INNOCENT. …til your next story spumoni.
