    The Accident – Short Story

My head ached and my entire body was sore. My entire head was just throbbing as my eyes tried to open to the blurred vision of broken glass. I could see trees and grass when I looked a little further, and that was when I remembered I was in a car. I realized I was upside down when I tried to move my head, and felt the gravity hold it where it was. I was so sore.

I couldn’t control anything, and I didn’t understand. All I could do was see the tattered mess around me, forgetting that my wife had been with me – I think I’d forgotten my own name. My mind was absolutely blank, and I could only see through eyes that seemed impaired. I was still in shock.

"Baby …" Echoed over again in my head, seeming like a dream from a far-off place where I heard her voice. My wife was calling to me, and I wanted to be rid of my confusion, so I tried to call back, but all that came out was a lengthy groan. "Bette?!" She was mumbling something, but my head was throbbing so badly that I couldn’t even control the blinking of my eyes. They would close for no reason, and open for only moments at a time. Were my arms really laying on the roof of the car – above my head? I couldn’t really be upside down – I didn’t think that was possible – and yet I was. I could feel it.

I wanted to ignore her voice, and I don’t remember why, but I tried to ignore what she was saying. I suppose I was afraid that it was all becoming too real. I hadn’t heard Tina scream that way ever before, and it scared me. That was when I heard a loud noise, and little shards of glass sprinkled over my face, and then settled along the roof of the car. I blinked a few times at the feelings, and then rested again.

I was pulled back into consciousness as she supported my neck. Her hands felt cold and wet – I remember that. Still, at the time, I didn’t understand what was happening. I thought I was falling through the car. I thought that maybe I was dying.

    1. You just put your hand in my chest, took my heart out with a death grip and then kissed it. I am now getting ready for the gym and I’m a total mess. God GR you really, I have no words other than thank you ☺

    2. Emotional but still amazing writing. I got scared that u would make Bette dead in the middle though. I believed that if there is someone you beloved waiting for you to recover from a accident, you will try every fiber to live even with crawling.
