We hurridly drove to Angel’s house, Tina had stopped crying and was now just staring blankly out the window. I held her hand, it was the only comfort I could show her as of now. I was sad yes, but I was more angry, how could he do this? If I find him before the police do, I’m gonna make him wish he’d never been born.
As we got to the house, there were a couple police cars parked. Tina sighed and I could hear the sobs trapped in her throat. I rubbed her hand and parked in front of the house. We got out and rant to the house, the policemen stood as Tina walked in.
”Miss. Kennard?”
”Yes, do you have any news? Have you found my son?”
”I’m sorry ma’am, but no. We have a team on the search for your ex-husband’s vehicle. Is there anything you can tell us about the last time you spoke to Mr. Kyle?”
”Well he called from the camp ground and he sounded fine. Him and our son were having a blast, I didn’t sense anything out of the ordinary.”
”I see.”
”He did say something about rehab,” I interjected, ”sorry, I’m Bette Porter, Tina’s girlfriend-”
”Fiancée.”
”Right, fiancée,” I said and smiled, shaking the police officer’s hand, ”I’m also Jackson’s legal guardian.”
”Ok, can you elaborate on the rehab statement?”
We began to retell what Eric had told us. The officer had written it all down and asked a few more questions. We found out that Eric had been arrested a couple weeks ago and charged with posession of a controlled substance. His nursing license was suspended pending drug rehabilitation completion. Since it was his first offence of any kind they took it easy on him, he really could have had his license revoked and he couldn’t be a nurse ever again.
There was nothing more to be done, they had officers looking for him. All there was to do was wait, and that was so hard. We made small walk with Angel although she was someone I really didn’t want to get to know. She was the one who convinced Eric to go after us for custody and convinced him to take him camping against our objections. I held her partially at fault for this. After a while, the police officers said they’d keep up the watch and we decided to go home.
