The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 3

The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 3

Bette’s docs had diagnosed her with dehydration, withdrawal syndrome, and withdrawal-induced psychosis, they did not believe her to be schizophrenic. After her hospital admission on Saturday evening, she was finally discharged on Wednesday afternoon, feeling much better than she had since the hum had sounded in her ears and the blood had trickled from her nose. She remained on meds for anxiety but had declined the antipsychotics. They had made her feel loopy and nauseous. And most importantly, they didn’t change this reality. And when Alice wasn’t with her, Dana had stopped by. She always wore the same outfit: a pair of loose-fitting jeans and a long-sleeved white Nike t-shirt. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and no matter how many times she smiled; her dark blue eyes were always flat, expressionless.

When she arrived home, Alice got her settled in before rushing back to work. Bette promised her that she’d check-in and let her know how she was feeling. And then drew herself a warm bath in the free-standing tub. Bubbles scented like coconut and jasmine coated the top layer of water and Bette lay her head back, the warmth easing the tension she felt. She heard three raps on the garden-side bedroom door before she heard Dana’s voice. “Bette?” she called.

    “In here,” came the reply.

Dana smiled when she saw her. Bette looked much healthier. A golden glow had returned to the tawny-beige skin. The dark circles beneath her dark brown eyes had faded. Her cheeks were rosy from the heat of the bath. “You look better. Much better.”

Bette smiled, showing her even, white, teeth. “Thank you. I feel much better.”

“No more shaky hands?” asked Dana.

Bette’s head was still leaned back against the tub, her hair wet and heavy. “No, not anymore. I feel good.”

Dana clasped her hands together. “Excellent. Let’s give you one more day. Tomorrow we’ll do your first information link.”

Bette nodded absently. “Tell me something.”

“What would you like to know?”

“Tell me what happened to you. I know you died. But what happened?” asked Bette.

Dana sat down on a rug near the tub, her legs crossed. “Breast cancer. A very aggressive form of breast cancer. Within a year of my diagnosis, I was gone. The chemo and radiation weakened my immune system. I barely made it through two rounds before I developed an infection. I was very sick. And then I died.”

    1. I think Bette needs another information link – because i’m sure she wants to find out what happened not only in this reality, but in reality of 2005. And i too)

But how she can find Tina in this world – i’m still don’t see.

    2. Thanks a lot for this early update!
I’m still very hopeful that Bette will find Tina. And Dana will figure out how to get B back to the other timeline. Back to her life with Tina.
Well, that’s me hoping. I need some positiv T + B moments to brighten these cold and wet winter days. ;-)

I’m curious to see why you mentioned Belena in your AN!

      pps
