Another BenMac Novel is Published
Coming this May, BenMac’s (Cameron MacElvee) The Smell of Rain will hit the virtual shelves. This marks Cammie’s (as she likes to call herself) second published work through Bold Strokes Books. Her debut novel, By the Dark of Her Eyes, which LesFan readers first got to know as The Groves, was an amazing story that won the 2017 Golden Crown Literary Society’s Goldie Award for Paranormal/Horror. What an incredible start for such a talented writer.
LesFan readers were treated to The Smell of Rain in fanfiction form in late 2016. Cammie has since reworked the characters for publication. While you’ll be able to see traces of TiBette in them, her new characters Chrys Safis (Tina) and Reyha Arslan (Bette) are two unique and fascinating women who will hold your interest from cover to cover.
On May 1st, Bold Strokes Books will release the e-book of The Smell of Rain, while the paperback will be available for pre-order and comes out May 15th. Due to copyright requirements, Cammie will remove all but the first chapter of The Smell of Rain on LesFan. This means if you want to read it in its original version, you’ll have to do so before April 30th.
Cammie has been a LesFan favorite since 2012, gracing readers with five short stories and seven amazing full-length novels, two of which are now published. Perhaps one day, all of her pieces will be published and find their way to everyone’s bookshelves.
We at LesFan invite you to support Cameron MacElvee (a.k.a. BenMac) and purchase her books. You can find them at Bold Strokes Books or Amazon.com.
The Smell of Rain
Air Force Lieutenant and military interpreter Chrys Safis lost her leg fighting alongside Kurdish forces in Syria. Once back home in DC, her fiancée leaves, her military career ends, and her faith in humanity evaporates. With prescription drugs and alcohol her only relief from the pain, Chrys is on her way to becoming a statistic.
That is until the State Department calls and offers her an important assignment—to serve as a diplomatic liaison and interpreter for a Turkish national living in exile. Reyha Arslan, a wise and elegant woman with a tragic past, shows Chrys that there’s still beauty to embrace and reason to hope despite the world’s cruelty. With Reyha’s help, Chrys’s broken spirit starts to heal and she learns that the most significant love is often the shortest lived.

I hope all who’ve read the fan fiction version will find this new telling just as moving. Thanks again for all your comments, PMs, messages, tweets, and emails. I love hearing from all of you.
