Hmmm. This isn’t looking too good to me:
“The new ‘L Word’ project is currently in the first stages of development,” according to a spokesperson for Showtime.
Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey, and Kate Moennig return as executive producer roles.
“Beals, Moennig and Hailey will appear on the series as their original characters as a point of connection from the prior series to the new one,” a news release from the cable channel stated. “They will be surrounded by a new ensemble of self-possessed LGBTQIA characters experiencing love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success on the east side of L.A.”
So, don’t get your hearts set on lots of Bette, Alice, and Shane screen time. To me, they look like carrots on a stick trying to bribe you into watching a totatally different show?
Beals’ said in a Tweet earlier this year, “Think more rebel yell than reboot.”
Sounds like we shouldn’t get too hopeful? What do you think?

I’m beginning to think so too…
If the original characters do not return, as they were, (Tina, Helena, Kit, Tasha….), at least for some episodes or scenes, to keep the original story alive, it might be better to assume that this “the new L word” is a totally different show, and no the continuation of the original one, which many of us would like to watch.
If Bette, Alice and Shane are the only three characters that are returning, how are they going to incorporate them into the new show without it becoming a “where’s Waldo” when it comes to Tina’s character?
IC said that they are going to pretend that season 6 never happened. Well, you can’t un-see season 6, so I haven’t decided if the new show is something I will subscribe to Showtime to watch. I guess we’ll see when gets closer to being a reality.
If there is not a good TiBette storiline ( Starring Jennifer Beals & Laurel Holloman), there is nothing that I want to see. That isn’t what we were expected so many years and that is not a truly TheLWord reboot. It would be a different serie and they shouldn’t use the name TLW.
I think without audience, there is no show. They said that they are going to decide the development of the stories on the go. If the audience makes it clear that without TiBette wont give enought support, maybe they will find the way to keep satisfied the public.
So keep tweeting often about wanting the original TiBette :)!
Let’s see: East LA. Not WeHo; not Venice Beach; not Studio City … none of the locations of the original series.
Then, only cameos (?) by a few characters from the original series.
Gotta say, i’m not feeling it.
What’s the concept? Does anybody know? I hope it’s not “gritty, reality-based” no-glam dramarama.
hope it’ll be clever. We need something clever.
It will be a very young new cast of women and I probably won’t watch if the show actually gets off the ground. I would not relate to these women. Glad I still have my original TLW box set.
sadly not feeling it either. I get that laurel is busy with her art exhibits and showing at various galleries….LOVE her artwork….and she did mention she was gracing out of acting until……???….
i think the intent of this follow up series is to showcase the “new” generation of up and coming queers in ALL facets of life. to continue to play off of the “only entitled” community members of WeHo and not allowing all sides to be portrayed, doesn’t really do a service for me to watch. not being a great fan of Ilene, to begin with,, I will give the first episode a see, but Ilene being all over the map creates for disinterest for me.
I STRONGLY agree.
I need to be real about this. I do not believe it’s going to happen as my gut tells me. IC, JB, KM and LeH are trying to capitalize on the past and adding new people and locations will not work. IC’s reality show The Real L Word went down in flames. TLW is what it was and they should let sleeping dogs lie. I will live with the memories. We will NEVER find the JB/LH chemistry ever again.
