These days we’re fortunate to have not just a bevy of awesomely strong and beautiful women gracing out television screens in significant roles, but also a multitude of F/F relationships that are an integral part of the story rather than a side bar. We need only go back a few years to see that this wasn’t always the case. I’m not just talking about same sex relationships, it wasn’t long ago that women struggled to get many good roles at all in a regular television series.

For the purposes of this column I am referring only to actual romantic lesbian relationships that are a part of the show and not just ships. Yes, there are tons of awesome ships that we would love to set sail with if they ever came to be, but I’m going to show you why Lost Girl’s Doccubus trumps them all.

Every great love story has chemistry right? Well, Zoie Palmer and Anna Silk have that in spades. It’s often said that they “make babies with their eyes.” It’s in the subtle ways they touch one another, the crazy feels they create with a few small looks and the all-consuming way they stare into one another’s eyes regardless of who else is in the room. Classic romances are filled with forbidden love. Romeo and Juliet’s warring families have nothing on a Fae and a human relationship, not to mention a human slave owned by the Light Fae. I mean, they took one Fae woman’s family away by framing her for murder over ahuman lover. We’re talking interspecies dating here.

A great love should make each other better. Lauren is the balance Bo needs, the voice that soothes her darkness and brings her back to the light time and again. She is her “shield of humanity.” Bo gave Lauren back the freedom to love, dared her to be strong again and she did all that and more.

If you really love someone you’d do anything for them. Despite their lack of communication and feeding issues these two have proven they’d go to the ends of the earth for one another. Everything Lauren does, she does for Bo. She’s broken all the rules to not only help her discover and control her true nature, but she even went to the darkside and de-Fae’d the Morrigan for her. Bo shows up time and time again when Lauren’s in need. She’s even unknowingly conjured the deepest darkness inside to save her from certain death by the Liche.

With great love comes great tragedy. Romeo and Juliet are considered a classic romantic tragedy, but both of them were human and considered equals. They were just a victim of warring families. What could be more tragic than to find that epic love and know that Bo will live for centuries, or millennia even, while Lauren has a human life span? I can’t think of many things. You know that your time together is limited, but Bo will live with the memories for a very, very long time.

Bo and Lauren have all the key pieces on paper to make it into the history books, but the proof, as they say, is in the pudding and there’s lots of pudding here. So enough talking, time for some hard videographic evidence:
