Bad Girls aired in the UK from 1999 – 2006. It featured a mixture of serious and light storylines focusing on the prisoners and staff of the fictional Larkhall prison. In seasons 1 – 3, Helen Stewart, the wing Governor, and Nikki Wade, a prisoner serving life, were the focus of extensive femslash fanfiction. Over the three seasons, Nikki and Helen became romantically involved. Inspired by Helen, Nikki won an appeal of her sentence and was released from prison at the end of Season 3.
