    Why Do I Love You?

Therese detected a slight tremor in the normally confident, melodic voice of her lover.

She held the arms that wrapped around her possessively, pulling on them so that they would hug her even tighter.

“And I know … I can sense … that the two of you share a certain kinship. You’re the same age, and you sparkle every time you return from a meeting with her,” Carol continued, uncharacteristically stumbling over the words.

“Why do I love you?” Therese asked softly as she spun slowly around while clutched closely to that warm body that she loved to distraction.

“What?” Carol asked in a curious tone, the expressive mouth Therese adored upturned into a slight smile. Therese snaked her arms around Carol’s neck, tunneling her fingers into those silky blonde tresses.

“That’s what Pernille said she asked, by way of a poem by Emily Dickinson, during a dinner with her future in-laws.”

Carol chuckled just before she dipped her head to kiss the upturned mouth waiting expectantly for her.

The blonde paused before giving Therese the kiss they both yearned for. “You’ve quoted that poem to me before.”

Therese opened her shut eyes. She really does notice everything I do, everything I say, just like she told me once.

They gazed at each other intensely, unflinchingly, gratefully. Seeing forever stretched ahead for them in the eyes of the other.

Carol continued, whispering silkily, “The Sunrise – sire – compelleth Me -… Because He’s Sunrise – and I see – Therefore – Then – I love Thee.”

She was rewarded with a broad, dazzling smile.

“Impressive… I may make a poetry lover out of you yet, Carol.”

    Carol dropped a quick kiss.

“And it means that love comes naturally. Like the sunrise.  There’s no explanation for it.  You feel it.  You sense it.  You surrender to it.”

She dropped another kiss on the upturned lips. Longer this time.

“And that’s why it’s a question you and I would never ask the other.”

    Why do I love you?

    Because…

“I’m yours, Carol. I don’t have to explain why.  Not only do you make me sparkle … you light me on fire…”

She pushed the robe off both creamy shoulders and began kissing along the delectable collarbone. They both began to vibrate expectantly.

    “Therese … I …we…can’t…be late … unhnn…”

    1. There is more😉 A lot more! When I think of Carol I imagine her in Chanel, as she embodies one of the best quotes of Mademoiselle Chanel, “A woman has to be two things: classy and fabulous.” That’s Carol, right? And when I think of Therese I think of her as an Yves Saint Laurent muse, when YSL was the King of couture. These two present so well as characters, and inhabit such a richly interesting and authentic time and world, so unlike the flat and kitschy one of today (sometimes, what passes for class and quality these days is perplexing, right?), that one can’t help but be inspired. I wish I had the time to write.

Not so sure that others on the site share this view, though, based on readership.

Still, thanks, @Jacky, for setting aside one corner of the site to this world and time, and story, of Therese and Carol. Perhaps the style of that world alone will be enough to draw people in at some point. Will try to post soon.
