The Short Life Of Franky Doyle

The Short Life of Franky Doyle

Franky Doyle picks up a large box from a shelf and places it on the table in front of her. Taking a seat, she rakes her fingers through her short sand coloured hair and wipes her nose nervously with her finger. On opening the box, she finds various documents, reports and clippings. Some yellowing, foxed and musty, others more recent printed. She takes the oldest looking one out and looks at it.

    FRIEDA JOAN DOYLE

This was the best day of my life and the best start to a new year and a new decade. This bloody kid. My little brother, the bright spark of the family. He really was the only light in my life then. I was nearly 12 when he was born and I loved him like my own. I always put this down to the age gap but it’s funny because we were mates too. We always said ‘Us Doyles can do whatever we put our minds to’. Poor little bugger. Didn’t get to do much in the end.

Report from Child Services, Melbourne, Victoria

I went to the Doyle residence today to further investigate our concerns surrounding the family, in particular about Freida Joan (aged 12) and Gary who is just 6 months old. When I arrived, I found that John William Doyle (father) was not present. Joan Doyle (mother) was there with the two children and appeared nervous about our visit. She also appeared to be in some pain from some injuries that she said she received falling over some toys on the floor recently. There was a trace of a bruising to her right eye.

Gary is a happy baby, with a shock of curly red hair and a smile for everyone. He appears to be eating well and growing as expected for his age. He is close to his sister Freida Joan and this is very much reciprocated. Freida Joan did not leave Gary’s side during the whole visit.
