I laughed as we got in the lunch line.

Spencer: Yea and that’s the difference between me and you. You just don’t make out with a girl like Ashley, you have to woo her.

Kyla laughed hysterically as she grabbed an apple.

Kyla: You don’t really believe that do you Spencer? If so it must not take much to woo her then. Especially from what ive heard.

She said and it pissed me off a little.

Spencer: Well maybe you shouldn’t listen to everything you hear then Kyla.

I said annoyed and she looked over at me as we found a table in the cafeteria.  

Kyla: sorry. Its just I don’t want you getting hurt because Ashley is a selfish bitch and doesn’t care about anything but her needs.

I rolled my eyes.

Spencer: You don’t know that Kyla. You don’t know her.

Kyla: Oh and you do?

She said which surprised me.

Spencer: No but she doesn’t seem like that.

Kyla: well looks can be deceiving, especially if they belong to those of Ashley Davies.

She said and I just brushed it off.

Kyla: Look Spencer, you’re my best friend and all I want for you is the best. Ashley has a reputation for breaking in girls. She’s a love em and leave em, fuck em and chuck em, get some get gone kind of girl and that’s not something you need.

She said and I really did love her for caring but it wasn’t up to her. It was up to me.

Spencer: Well that means a lot to me that you care Kyla, it really does but its not up to you, its up to me and She hasn’t done anything to make me not want to trust her. I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt and well if I get burned in the end you can have the privilege of telling me I told you so.

I said and she smiled.

Kyla: I wouldn’t do that but if she does hurt you then Ill beat her over the head with a shovel.

She said seriously and to tell you the truth I got scared for a second.

Spencer: Fine it’s a deal.

I said laughing. We began to eat and share meaningless conversation. Today was really turning out to be a good day. Minus the hour of detention I had after school. After lunch was over I got my things out of my locker and made my way to my fifth period. Surprisingly the rest of the day went by pretty quickly. Guess the powers that be wanted me to suffer quicker than was necessary with that hour of detention, which would probably seem longer than the whole school day put together. After my last class, I went to my locker to rid myself of the books I didn’t need for homework that night and then I was off to Mr. Mark’s room. As I made my way there I bumped into Ashley.

Ashley: Hey there

She smiled and I returned it.

Spencer: Hey where ya headed?

I asked as she began to walk with me.

Ashley: To detention

 She said and I got happier inside. A whole hour with Ashley was the best hour ever.

Spencer: Oh really? Me too. For Mr. Marks?

I asked as she nodded her head yes.

Ashley: Yea he gave me detention for talking back in class…Ass.

She said and we began to laugh together.

Spencer: Ugh this is going to be the worst ever.

I said and she agreed.

Ashley: I know but at least you’ll be there to keep me sane.

She said looking me in my eyes and I blushed. Oh great you moron. I thought.

We finally made it to Mr. Mark’s class and took our seats. Ashley sat next to me and then Mr. Marks too roll. Seeing as there were only about 6 people in detention I didn’t see the need in taking roll but hey.

Mr. Marks: Parker Allen…Heather Belasco…Spencer Carlin…

Spencer: Here

I said dully raising my hand.

Mr. Marks: Ashley Davies?

Ashley: Here…

She said just as dully and then the teacher spoke.

Mr. Marks: Here begins your hour of detention. You can talk but not too loud.

He said begining to grade papers and Ashley and I began talking to each other. It was turning out to the be the best day after all.
