    A Vampire's Lament – (Chapter: 2-At Least I Know I'm A Sinner)

    A Vampire’s Lament
    Chapter 2: At Least I Know I’m A Sinner

"When sin’s deep in my blood,
you’ll be the one to fall."
    – Avenged Sevenfold

Immortality. Some say it’s a blessing and some say it’s a curse. I must insist that it’s neither. When it comes down to living forever, you eventually become neutral of the idea of walking amongst the living as an undead goddess.

It just doesn’t matter to you anymore because if you’ve lived as long as I have, you’ll see an unbelievable amount of transformation and it’s the most fantastic thing in the world. When you experience change over a certain number of years, immortality gives you an understanding of life and death.

Life is just too beautiful, no matter what situations you may experience, there is always a wonderful outcome waiting for you in the end.

That’s what I fear about mortality; the end. I’ve always been significantly afraid of dying because seeing as my kind have no God, we wonder what’s to become of us when we do pass our limitation. Yes, we vampires do have living expectations just like humans do. But unlike humanity, our living expectancy exceeds beyond 76 years of age(obviously).

According to the Vampire "bible", the children of darkness may live up to 1,000 years. It’s kind of weird thinking about it now, actually. It makes a vampire want to seek the history of vampires and how this powerful element of immortality came to be. It really shouldn’t be called immortality but if I can’t die of gun wounds, drowning, and old age, then I’m fine with immortality.

"Ashley, quit thinking about that shit. Immortality isn’t the greatest perk of being an undead, you know." Kyla’s soft voice said as we drove past our mansion gates.

My dear little sister just got her driver’s license last week after failing the permit test countless times. How adorable is it that she’s now driving a sleek, leather-interior purple convertible out in the wild streets of L. A.?

After staring at the gargoyle statues that stood before the gates, I quickly glance at a concentrated Kyla. She looked so funny when she was concentrating on something. Her lips were slightly pursed and her fangs were exposed a little. It was oh so cute.
