    As The Sun Shines Through

“Bella!” My sister, Alice, screeched from her bedroom downstairs. I winced; sometimes sensitive hearing was not so desirable.

“Yes?” I asked as I moved towards my closet to change my clothes for school. Ugh, school. I don’t understand why Carlisle and Esme insist that we attend.

Alice threw open my bedroom door with a furious expression on her face. “If you wear that black T-shirt, then I will force you to go to the Spring Dance with Tyler Crowley,” she threatened. My eyes widened in fear; Alice never broke her promises. I quickly changed into a navy blue polo in front of her and raised my eyebrows for her verdict. She nodded her head in approval.

“Much better. Everyone’s waiting for you in your truck. And your keys fell into the trash,” she told me.

I smiled. Only Alice would know that I couldn’t find my keys before I did. We raced out of the house, waving good-bye to Esme as usual, and into my black 2008 F-150 FX4 SuperCrew 4X4. It was Emmett’s turn today to ride shotgun; he and Alice alternated every other day.

“Do you think we could pretend the sun is out and skip school today?” I asked hopefully.

My brawny brother chuckled next to me. “Why don’t you want to go to school? The humans at Forks High are amusing.” That wasn’t much of an answer…

His beautiful wife and my sister, Rosalie, scoffed. “Hardly, Emmett.” “Only one more year until you can graduate,” she reminded me. “And what’s a year to a vampire, anyway?” I guess that’s a no…

I smiled; she was right. A year to a vampire was a very short amount of time. Suddenly, an unexpected wave of happiness washed over me. I raised an eyebrow at Jasper. He quickly averted his attention to Alice, who was sitting on his right.

“Alice, why do you feel so avid?”

We all turned to look curiously at her. It was true: her right leg was bouncing up and down and she was sighing impatiently. She was never this eager to go to school.

    “Will something happen?” Emmett asked.

But Alice simply smiled mischievously and leaned forward to turn the key into ignition. I sighed. I guess that means we’re not skipping today, I thought.
