    Broken – (Chapter: 1)

She walked through the house until she reached the bedroom they once shared.  Everything was the same as she remembered it.  The room was huge and in the center of it was the bed.  It was made neatly with the grey and white paisley pattern comforter.  The bed post was an oak finish with the rot iron designs making up the head and foot board.  To her left, along the wall, stood what was her dressing area.  It still contained her belongs that she long ago replaced.  Silently, she walked over to her stuff and looked at the various items.  She pulled open the top drawer to her dresser, and a small smile crept at the corner of her mouth when she saw the various types and colors of lingerie she had acquired during their relationship.

She continued to meander around the room when she saw something out of the corner of her eye.  She slowly, hesitantly, walked over to the other dresser.  It was her dresser, and that’s when her heart shattered into a million pieces.  Lying on top of the platinum jewelry box was the engagement ring she gave her.  The ring was priceless; a flawless three carat-diamond set in the center and on each side of it sat a diamond cut sapphire.

While fighting the tears welling up in her eyes, her legs about to give out on her, she leaned on the wall and slowly slid down it.  She grabbed the ring she picked out and put on the hand of the woman she promised to spend the rest of her life with.  It was in this moment she knew without a doubt she lost the love of her life forever.

After sitting in silence she forced herself up to finish what she came here to do.  Curiosity got the best of her and she casually opened up one of the drawers to find the contents emptied out.  She looked at the jewelry box, with a shaky hand she reached out to open it.  To her surprise, the box was empty.  Trying to be the optimist she tried to see the bright side, at least she kept all the jewelry that she gave her.  Some were for anniversaries, birthday, but most were gifts she bought her love just because.  She loved to spoil her.  She just couldn’t help it.  When she would see a piece of jewelry she knew would look perfect on her, she just had to buy it.
